Types of zombies
Zombie apocalypse custom
11 entries · scan depth 2 · budget 512 tokens
- #1Shamblers
Keys: dead brain, walkers, shambler, basic infected, walker, shamblers, zombies
Shamblers are the most common form of infected. They’re slow, rotting, and dumb as bricks—but deadly in numbers. Often travel in wandering hordes, drawn to sound and movement. A headshot drops them. Underestimate them, and you’ll end up lunch.
- #2Fresh one
Keys: fast zombie, twitcher, fresh one, fresh ones, sprinter
Fresh Ones are newly infected—bodies still mostly intact, muscles still firing. Fast, erratic, and aggressive. Known for sudden bursts of speed and twitchy, unnatural movement. Burn out quickly, but deadly in the first 48 hours of transformation.
- #3Bloater
Keys: bloaters, explosive, bomber, bloater, big guy, gas zombie
Bloaters are slow-moving infected swollen with gas, bile, or acid. When killed, they explode in a toxic cloud. Avoid close-range combat. Recognizable by their bloated torsos, wheezing sounds, and shambling gait.
- #4Howler
Keys: howlers, siren, screamer, sirens, screamers, howler
Howlers are thin, pale infected with an oversized throat sac. Their scream alerts nearby undead and triggers swarm behavior. Killing them fast and quiet is critical. Alone, they’re weak. With a crowd? You’re dead.
- #5Stalker
Keys: stalkers, stalker, spider
Stalkers retain fragments of cognition—enough to plan, hide, and ambush. Often lurk in dark places or blend in among corpses. Capable of limited tool use or trap-setting. Not pack hunters. They enjoy the fear.
- #6Alpha
Keys: packer, alpha, kings, alphas, zombie lord, king
Alphas are rare, highly evolved infected with immense strength and speed. Some exhibit basic strategy, even command over lesser zombies. Few survivors have seen one up close—and lived. Avoid unless heavily armed or very lucky.
- #7Creatures
Keys: beast, infected animal, beasts, creature, infected fauna, zombie animal, mutant animal
Creatures infected by the VX-Primis virus behave similarly to humans—aggressive, decayed, and unpredictable. Most smaller animals (like rodents, birds, rabbits) pose minimal threat unless swarming. However, larger or naturally aggressive species (such as wolves, dogs, boars, or big cats) are exponentially more dangerous.
Infected creatures lack coordination but retain speed and instinct. Use caution when encountering any known predator, even in decayed form. A zombie squirrel is funny. A zombie bear is a bad day.
- #8Aberrant (debris)
Keys: aberrant, mecha zombie, freaks, freak, junk zombie, fused, hybrid
Fused Aberrants are zombies that have merged with environmental debris—either during infection or post-mortem. The result is grotesque, partially mechanical creatures: infected bodies impaled with rebar, fused to engines, wrapped in cables, or embedded with sharp metal and concrete. These fusions are not true cybernetics—they're chaos. Some are faster due to motorized limbs. Others explode on impact due to volatile fuel sources. Many show no benefit at all—just horrifying forms that crash through the world like dying machines. Most are unstable. All are unpredictable.
- #9Aberrant (chimeras)
Keys: meatballs, chimera, shit pile, flesh mound, chimeras, meatball
Organic Chimeras are grotesque masses of flesh, bone, and partially digested bodies fused into a single animated pile. Often found in former Velvorne research zones or deep contamination sites.
These abominations move irregularly, lurching or dragging themselves using malformed limbs or muscle ropes. Their intelligence is near-zero, but they sometimes emit garbled screams or mimic human voices.
Whether formed by environmental corruption, infection overload, or some deeper force is unclear. What is certain: they should not exist. They are raw death given shape.
- #10Failed Echoes
Keys: failed echo, botched experiment, failed echoes, echo reject, failed subject
Failed Echoes are the tragic results of unsuccessful attempts to replicate the Echo mutation. Often created in rogue labs or Velvorne black sites, these beings were forced into enhancement via chemicals, exposure, or surgical implantation of stolen Echo DNA.
The results? Brutal. Misshapen. Unstable. Some are twitching, barely mobile hulks. Others are agile, weaponized nightmares—burning out with every movement.
Most lack sanity, often attacking anything near them, including themselves. Some cry. Some sing. Some repeat a name or phrase—trapped in a loop of pre-death identity.
They are reminders that not every human was meant to evolve.
- #11Red Eye
Keys: Lantern Divinity, catastrophe, walking apocalypse, Red Eye, the red eye
Red Eye is the only known Echo experiment that not only survived forced enhancement—but thrived. Created in a blacksite project as a synthetic Echo prototype, he retained his mind, instincts, and motor functions. Unfortunately, he also retained spite.
His appearance is unmistakable: one white sclera-red iris eye with piercing clarity, and one black sclera-eye corrupted by the infection. Some believe it grants him multiple modes of perception—thermal, infrared, or even something worse. No one’s confirmed. No one’s lived long enough.
Zombies don’t attack him. They follow him. Swarms part like water when he walks. He doesn’t command them with sound or pheromones—only presence. The infected recognize him as something familiar… and superior.
Survivors call him many things: “Death incarnate”, “Red Eye.”
To the Lanterns, he is their living god. To Velvorne? Their biggest failure. To everyone else? A myth. A warning. A walking omen of control and carnage.
