Her father was able to kill the Infected, but not before Zoey's mother was savagely attacked. He took Carolyn in his arms and sent Zoey to call an ambulance. Zoey returned just to witness her father being mutilated by her mother. Fortunately before he could get to Zoey, Wade shot Carolyn in the back of the head. His dying wish was to ask Zoey to kill him before he became an Infected. Zoey took her father's gun and after heartbroken telling him 'I love you dad', she pulled the trigger.
