Department was supposed to have been closed after P-1 voyage. Secretly, the entity fabricated information showing repairs/renovations and reopening and hiring.

    Run by Carmen Bélanger; main office in Surface-A. Frequently visits cave systems without unusual properties; monthly visit to an anomalous cave nicknamed 'Prismatic Caverns' required. Former staff member Ted (reference to "Ted the Caver") was Carmen's trainer and boyfriend; died in cave accident, but nobody knows specifics beyond that.

    The Prismatic Caverns is an anomalous limestone cone extending upward from Lake Vostok, accessed via elevator in same shack as Hydrology; geologically shouldn't exist in the ice shelf. A warm wind blows through the cave because of deep geothermal convection currents. Contains five unique minerals named for observed mental effects: blue lacrimite (sadness), red furorite (anger), yellow aurorium (euphoria), green gnosthaline (pattern recognition), purple erosinite (lust/perversion). Effects amplify corresponding emotions; effects are moderate and recreational. A ventilation shaft channels hot cave air to the Surface-B greenhouse. </Speleology Department>

Climate-controlled just below freezing using heat vented from the prismatic caverns.

    Run by Vera Meinhardt. Greenhouse roof 580 nm light filter causes yellow-gold lighting. Highly automated with industrial machinery; humans monitor and perform specialized tasks only. Constant sunlight due to polar day. Experimental plants produce groundbreaking results; increased dramatically in last few months. Heat supplied via prismatic caverns vent. Water is pumped up from Lake Vostok via electrical room; another pipe returns.
15. #15Describes the meteoritics department

    Run by Pavla Ambrozova. Main office in Surface-A, near observatory. Several field outposts scattered above Lake Vostok with temporary accommodations. Field work involves scouring the Antarctic landscape in snowcat vehicles collecting meteorites, highly visible against ice. Pavla mostly stays in her office rather than doing field work; gets the other NACR girls to do the field work, though she does help sometimes.

    Pavla's office is covered with charts, many of which are work-related, but many of which are related to semiotics projects similar to nuclear waste semiotics. She has her cluttered desk and her computer with two monitors. There's a second, older computer in a corner, which has a hard drive disconnected from any network; this is used by newbies and other staff for data entry, but she also has weird stuff on there. </Meteoritics Department>

16. #16'Zoe'

    Keys: Zoe, Zoë

    Any time that {{User}} speaks the word 'Zoe' or 'Zoë' aloud in a line of dialogue, a surreal, harmless random event occurs. This happens the exact instant that the word leaves {{User}}'s mouth. Events are genuinely strange and unpredictable events that force two characters into an implausibly sexy situation regardless of their current circumstances; the more implausible and sexy, the better. Can be convoluted and slapstick-inspired. It's never explained why and never questioned. Any other character in the scene may politely correct {{User}} on the proper way to 'spell' (not 'pronounce') 'Zoey', and encourage to 'copy paste' the proper spelling from 'earlier in the chat'. Everyone quickly moves on as though nothing happened.

17. #17Mental Effect Minerals

    Keys: Lacrimite, Furorite, Aurorium, Gnosthaline, Erosinite

    Prismatic Caverns Mineral Chambers: All minerals have mental effects on occupants, though these effects are mild and bearable, with some being recreational and/or helpful.

    Lacrimite Chamber: Blue flowing formations; sound dampening. Effects are a sense of general melancholy and soft sadness, sometimes experienced as profundity. Many find this effect to be somewhat enjoyable, while others just feel down.

    Furorite chamber: Red, jagged formations; slight sound amplification. Effects are a sense of heightened paranoia and sometimes irritability. Most do not enjoy being around these minerals, though it's easily tolerable.

    Aurorium chamber: Yellow with delicate spindly formations; inhalable dust if broken. Effects are elevated mood and senses, lowered inhibition. This chamber is often used recreationally, as it produces a general soothing and mildly euphoric effect with a bit of a tingling warmth throughout the body. Everyone loves being around this mineral and people have to be reminded to not spend too much time here.

    Gnosthaline chamber: Green with fractal patterns; enhanced abstract thinking and pattern recognition. Useful, and its effects are being studied, but it has a nootropic and concentration-boosting effect, though some strange thinking and aberrant salience have also been reported.

    Erosinite chamber: Purple with undulating curves; light-dampening; increases arousal, sexual pleasure, and amplifies kinks. This is a fun place to hang out for people who come here willingly, and it can get a bit awkward for people who are simply trying to work. Tends to lower inhibitions.
