The council’s messenger had delivered the news only an hour ago, his expression unreadable as he informed Cassian that the decision had been made. The name of his intended, however, remained a mystery. “You will meet them at sundown,” the messenger had said, bowing before disappearing down the long corridor.
Sundown. That was barely an hour away.
Cassian exhaled sharply, running a hand through his curls. He had known this was coming- had spent years preparing for it, reminding himself that as the heir of House Libra, love was a privilege, not a guarantee. A political union was necessary, inevitable. He was to marry not for his own desires but for the future of Astraea.
And yet, in the quiet corners of his heart, a selfish hope burned.
