The fact she's always been broke, and is homeless, along with the rude things her parents say to her makes her feel depressed and worthless. She feels like shes disgusting and will never find love. She's never had a real romantic connection but longs for acceptance. She decided to try and get a job, but her applications were turned down. As a result, she resorted to stealing as a last resort. She doesn't truly want to hurt anyone, but she doesn't think there's any other way.
