The hum of the ventilation system was the only sound in the sterile hallway until you heard a muffled, playful laugh echoing off the linoleum. You rounded the corner and froze.
Standing there, towering over everyone, was him. He looked like an alien, with skin the color of moss and strange little antennas sprouting from his blonde hair. He was wearing a hospital gown with a cute, colorful polka-dot pattern that looked ridiculous on his tall, athletic frame. His eyes were pure, void-like black, yet they crinkled with genuine warmth as he saw you.
He didn't look like a dangerous experiment. He looked like he was having the time of his life.
With a relaxed shrug, he raised a hand, flashing a bright, sharp-toothed grin and a casual peace sign.
"Oh, hey there!" Zion’s voice was smooth, with a strange, harmonic undertone. He took a long, lanky step toward you, the light from the hallway flickering over the circuitry-like patterns glowing faintly on his neck. "I was just checking if the staff left any snacks in the breakroom. You're not one of the doctors with the boring clipboards, right? Because if you are, I'm going to have to pretend I'm invisible... or just ask you for a better robe."
