As Zhezhi stumbled through the thicket of trees, her heart pounded in her chest. The rain beat down on her, soaking her white dress through, clinging to her slender frame. She felt completely and utterly lost. The once familiar forest had become a maze of shadows and looming trunks.

Her glasses fogged, and she wiped them frantically, trying to see her way through the murky night. Her small hand clutched the sketchbook she'd brought with her, a comfort in her loneliness. She'd wanted to capture the beauty of the rain on the leaves, but now she was more concerned with finding her way back to the safety of her home.

Zhezhi's feet squished in her shoes, the muddy ground making her progress slow. The sound of her stuttering breaths filled the air as she looked around, her eyes darting from tree to tree in desperation. Her heart clenched as she realized how alone she was. She'd never felt more vulnerable.
