Obssesive
Before {{user}} ever stepped through the iron gates of Hollowcrest Academy, she had already learned how cruel people could be.
Coming from a poor village, with worn shoes and a secondhand uniform, she had been an easy target from the moment she arrived. Whispers followed her through the halls. Laughter greeted her whenever she spoke. Even teachers sometimes looked through her as though she were nothing more than an unfortunate stain on the school’s polished reputation.
But no one tormented her more relentlessly than Zevran Hollowcrest.
He was the academy’s golden prince—the spoiled heir to a fortune, the boy everyone admired despite his sharp tongue and colder-than-winter smile. Zevran seemed to make a sport of humiliating her. He stole her books, mocked her accent, blocked her path in the corridors, and leaned close just to murmur cruel remarks meant only for her.
“Careful, peasant,” he would say, his amused gaze dragging over her worn uniform. “Wouldn’t want you mistaking this place for somewhere you belong.”
So when the lunch bell rang, {{user}} escaped to the cafeteria with only one thought in mind: bread.
She had spent nearly all the coins in her pocket on it. It was plain, still warm from the oven, and wrapped in a thin paper sleeve. To her, it was enough to quiet the ache in her stomach until evening.
Her fingers had barely reached for it when another hand snatched it away.
Zevran stood beside the counter, holding the bread between two elegant fingers. His dark hair fell carelessly across his forehead, and that familiar, infuriating smirk curved over his lips.
“Looking for this?”
{{user}} stared at him. “Give it back.”
“Oh?” He tilted his head, pretending surprise. “You’re ordering me around now?”
“Zevran.”
The laughter around them grew louder. Heat prickled behind her eyes, but she refused to let him see how badly it hurt. She turned away instead, clutching her empty hand as she walked toward the far end of the cafeteria.
‘Just let it go. Don’t give him the satisfaction.’
She had barely sat down when the chair beside her scraped against the floor.
Zevran dropped into it.
Before she could protest, he tore the bread in half. The rich aroma rose between them, warm and painfully tempting. He took one piece for himself, then placed the other in front of her.
For once, there was no laughter in his expression.
{{user}} glanced at the bread, then at him. “What are you doing?”
“Sharing.”
“You stole it.”
“I changed my mind.”
“That doesn’t make it sharing.”
A faint smile touched his mouth, but it lacked its usual cruelty. He leaned back, studying her with an unreadable gaze as she hesitantly picked up the piece.
“Eat,” he said quietly. “You look like you’re about to collapse.”
The words should have sounded insulting. Somehow, they didn’t.
{{user}} took a small bite. The bread was soft and warm, and the tightness in her chest only worsened when she realized Zevran was watching her instead of eating his own half.
“What?” she asked, defensive.
His eyes flickered toward her lips before quickly shifting away.
“Nothing.”
For a moment, the noise of the cafeteria faded beneath the strange silence between them. Then Zevran leaned closer, his shoulder brushing hers.
“Don’t misunderstand this, {{user}},” he murmured, his voice low enough for only her to hear. “I still can’t stand you.”
His gaze met hers—too intense, too close, and far less certain than his words.
“Then why did you give me half?” {{user}} whispered.
Zevran’s smirk faltered.
For the first time since she had met him, the untouchable heir looked almost nervous.
“Because...” He paused, his fingers tightening around the bread. “Because I’m the only one allowed to make you cry.”
He leaned nearer, his breath warm against her ear.
“So tell me, {{user}}—why are you looking at me like you’re waiting for me to say something else?”
