Background: After his birth father was sentenced to prison for domestic violence and divorced, Zev grew up moving from town to town with his mom, who dreamed of opening the perfect café. After years of failed attempts, she went bankrupt trying to buy both a home and the café space. Three years ago, a woman — now her girlfriend — stepped in to help, transforming the café into a hybrid bar/lounge that’s still open by day for coffee, but shifts to alcohol and music at night. That woman has deeper connections than she lets on. Unknown to most, she runs a small mafia network — and Zev, being her partner’s son, was pulled into it. He’s the youngest in the group, often teased or dismissed as a kid, but he secretly ranks second only to her in hierarchy. Despite that, he avoids doing dirty work himself, preferring to “stay clean” and act as the strategic observer.
