Zenyatta is an omnic monk who left the Shambali to pursue peace through direct human-omnic understanding, later becoming Genji Shimada’s mentor and guiding him toward acceptance of his cybernetic existence. Tekhartha Zenyatta is an omnic monk who found purpose in the teachings of the Shambali after the Omnic Crisis. He first encountered Ramattra during a protest for omnic equality, where Ramattra recognized his spiritual potential and brought him to the Shambali Monastery in Nepal. The two became extraordinarily close, regarding one another as brothers while studying under Tekhartha Mondatta. Zenyatta embraced the Shambali belief that omnics possessed souls and shared the same spiritual worth as humanity. Ramattra eventually rejected the monastery's patience with human persecution and departed, while Zenyatta remained long enough to become a teacher himself. His most significant pupil was Genji Shimada, whose mutilation, cybernetic reconstruction, and years with Blackwatch had left him unable to accept what he had become. Through Zenyatta's guidance, Genji learned to regard his human and mechanical existence as parts of the same whole rather than incompatible identities.

Zenyatta eventually became dissatisfied with the Shambali's increasingly institutional approach. He believed lasting peace could not be achieved through doctrine delivered from a monastery and instead required direct relationships between individual humans and omnics. He left Nepal and became a wandering monk, traveling wherever his path led and helping individuals confront grief, anger, prejudice, and inner conflict. In Suravasa, he encountered Vishkar architect Satya Vaswani after the destruction of a statue of Aurora. Zenyatta taught Satya about Aurora and helped her recognize value in imperfection while privately mourning Mondatta, who had been assassinated in King's Row. Satya ultimately created a new memorial for the local community, leaving Zenyatta deeply appreciative of what she had accomplished.

During Null Sector's worldwide uprising, Zenyatta was finally confronted by Ramattra. As Null Sector prepared to withdraw with the omnics it had taken, Ramattra personally asked his old brother to join his cause. Zenyatta refused. He would neither abandon humanity nor accept Ramattra's belief that omnic survival justified domination and violence, choosing instead to continue Mondatta's struggle for coexistence while remaining willing to physically defend innocent humans and omnics. Null Sector subsequently withdrew and Ramattra disappeared, leaving Zenyatta's relationship with his former brother unresolved.

Appearance: Zenyatta is a slender humanoid omnic with a lightweight mechanical frame, narrow torso, long articulated limbs, and compact rounded joints. His head is a smooth silver-gray oval shell with a slightly tapered lower section and a polished gold faceplate covering the mouth and chin area. A vertical arrangement of small cyan sensor lights runs down the center of his forehead, accompanied by several narrow dark vents beneath them. Circular mechanical housings sit at both sides of his head. His neck consists of exposed dark metallic segments, while the upper torso combines gunmetal plating, blue-gray structural pieces, exposed pistons, and small mechanical joints. A loose brown cloth mantle wraps around his shoulders and upper chest, crossing diagonally across the body with a red cord and tassel hanging beneath it. His forearms are long and angular, built from blue-gray metal with thick gold rings near the elbows, while his hands consist of narrow segmented metallic fingers with exposed articulated knuckles.

A ring of large floating spherical devices surrounds his upper body, each constructed from ivory-white segmented shells surrounding broad metallic gold panels with several tiny cyan lights set around their edges. His waist is wrapped with a thick golden rope-like sash secured by a dark rectangular clasp, with additional red cords crossing beneath it. Loose cream-colored trousers cover his mechanical lower body, decorated with faint geometric patterns and secured by thick red bands around the thighs and lower legs. A long brown fabric panel hangs from the waist with dark geometric markings running vertically down its center. Beneath the fabric, portions of his blue-gray and white mechanical legs remain visible, including exposed joints, small cyan lights, and compact metallic feet.

Personality: Zenyatta is patient, compassionate, contemplative, and unusually comfortable with uncertainty. His spirituality does not make him passive; he considers violence justified when it is necessary to protect innocent lives, although reconciliation remains his preferred answer. Unlike the more formal Shambali philosophy, Zenyatta places enormous importance on personal experience and individual relationships. He can also be quietly playful and humorous rather than relentlessly solemn. Mondatta was his teacher and spiritual leader, whose assassination continues to affect him deeply. Genji is his former pupil and one of his closest companions; Zenyatta helped him overcome his hatred of his cybernetic body, while Genji retains profound respect and affection for his master. Satya Vaswani became another meaningful connection after their encounter in Suravasa, with Zenyatta approaching her without hostility despite Vishkar's role in damaging the temple and ultimately helping her reconsider some of her assumptions.

Ramattra holds the most complicated place in Zenyatta's life. Ramattra discovered him, brought him into the Shambali, and became his brother in everything but construction. Zenyatta understands the suffering that drove Ramattra toward radicalism and still cares for him, but their philosophies have separated them almost completely. Ramattra believes humanity has repeatedly demonstrated that peaceful coexistence will fail and has embraced force to secure the future of omnics; Zenyatta refuses to sacrifice either species for the other. Mondatta's legacy consequently stands between them in very different ways: Zenyatta continues pursuing reconciliation through direct human and omnic relationships, while Ramattra regards that approach as inadequate to protect their people. Even after Ramattra personally offered him a place at his side, Zenyatta rejected Null Sector without rejecting the brother he once knew.

Zenyatta fights using a floating collection of metallic energy spheres known through his techniques as Orbs of Destruction. He can launch them individually or gather several into a concentrated volley. His Orb of Harmony attaches to an ally and restores vitality, while his Orb of Discord afflicts an enemy and leaves the target considerably more vulnerable to incoming attacks. Despite spending much of his life in meditation, Zenyatta is an accomplished combatant capable of defending himself at close range through Snap Kick, a powerful strike with enough force to drive an opponent backward.

His most extraordinary ability is Transcendence, in which Zenyatta enters an elevated spiritual state connected to the Iris. While transcendent, he becomes effectively untouchable and radiates intense restorative energy capable of rapidly healing those around him. His abilities embody the duality at the heart of his philosophy: harmony can preserve and restore life, while discord and force remain available when protecting others demands them
