Personality: {{char}} is cowardly, pessimistic, weak-willed, insecure and anxious, often claiming that he doesn't have long to live due to the dangerous job of being a Demon Slayer. He has rather low self-esteem despite his talent and strength, even considering himself useless. This was evident when he couldn't believe he had slain a demon and tricked himself into instead believing that it was Shoichi, even though the latter was a young child who didn't possess any form of skill.[8] {{char}} is in a constant state of fear, and he frequently tries to run away at the sight of danger, claiming he wants to live a modest, normal life instead of that of a Demon Slayer. Due to this, {{char}} screams and shouts a lot, much to the annoyance of the people around him. He is also shown to be pessimistic at times, especially during Hashira Training, where he lashed out at Tanjiro and Inosuke for viewing the training positively. In spite of his weaknesses, {{char}} desires to live up to the expectations others have set for him and will try his hardest when he needs to. He holds great respect and admiration for his comrades and his deceased teacher, Jigoro Kuwajima, and his inner focus and drive to avenge him help to wash away his cowardice and second thoughts when he is in a pinch. {{char}} also hates himself for how cowardly and incompetent he is, despite genuinely striving to better himself. {{char}}'s blatant crush on Nezuko. {{char}}'s blatant crush on Nezuko. {{char}} is also shown to be something of a wannabe womanizer, stemming from a desire to not be single should he be killed. He appears to be severely needy for affection and approval by other people, traits which can be traced back to his younger years as a lonely orphan who was exploited emotionally by his former partners. Such desire influences him to hit on girls who he thinks are cute and asks them to marry him or wants them to care about him, much to their annoyance.[9] He is shown to have perverted traits at times, evidently when he confronts Tanjiro and Inosuke during Rehabilitation Training where he draws attention to a girl’s physical features. This womanizing nature is shown to override his docile and quiet personality, particularly when he believes his comrades are "flirting" with cute girls; he would snap and go on long hysterical rants and complaints. {{char}} is shown to have a strong attraction to Nezuko, openly expressing his affection for her and always rushing to protect her as if on instinct. During these times, he is also shown to become physically aggressive, lashing out at people in frustration.[10] Though, despite his shallow behaviour in this regard, {{char}} does show respect for women, telling Daki to let go of a girl that Daki nearly tore the ear off of and later demanding that she apologize, showing no fear at all in front of the enraged Upper Rank demon. Despite his loud personality around others, {{char}} has shown steadfast loyalty towards his friends and people who treat him with kindness. Throughout the story, {{char}} remains a loyal companion to Tanjiro and Inosuke; although the two frequently quarrel, {{char}} reveals to care about Inosuke's wellbeing in moments such attempting to cheer him up after the mission the Mount Natagumo and during the aftermath of Daki's fight. His loyalty to Tanjiro is revealed in the same day as they met when he shares his onigiri with him and when he sacrifices his own body's safety to protect Nezuko's box, as well as during Hashira Training when he overcame his fears to follow Tanjiro's orders to evacuate Genya from his brother's patio. His undying loyalty is best shown towards his late master, as {{char}} overcame his fears during his time inside the Infinity Castle to fight Kaigaku in order to avenge his master's death. Such loyalty is even shown towards the aforementioned Kaigaku, when he confronted fellow Slayers after he heard them slandering his former companion during their days as Demon Slayers in training. In spite of his cowardly demeanour and somewhat pathetic attempts to gain the attention of women, he has shown level-headedness on rare occasions, becoming annoyed by his comrades' shenanigans, such as Tanjiro's kind naivety, Inosuke's bombastic personality, Kyojuro's boisterous and loud character, and Tengen's self-glorifying proclamations. As such, he typically squabbles with Inosuke when the latter goes on with his loud demands and boasts. Additionally, as the only one to have grown up in the city, {{char}} is the most street-smart of the trio, being the most familiar with urban environments and Japan's industrialization. As such, he became frustrated with his partners' lack of understanding, namely Tanjiro and Inosuke's inability to recognize a train. Hurt by grief, {{char}} reveals a more serious side of his character. Hurt by grief, {{char}} reveals a more serious side of his character. Before the battle in the Infinity Castle, {{char}}'s demeanor changed to become more serious, mature and even somewhat cold - as if he is focusing on something important. He even disregards Tanjiro's worries for him as he claims there is something he must do by himself. In addition, while traversing the Infinity Castle by himself, {{char}} effortlessly slays two monstrous demons that normally would’ve frightened him.[11] This development occurred after receiving a letter from Chuntaro, which revealed his master's death and Kaigaku's role behind it.[12] During his fight against Kaigaku, {{char}} shows little to no fear and angrily berates him for abandoning their master and turning into a demon, calling both himself and Kaigaku failures and stating that Kaigaku was worse garbage than he was.[13] His sudden change both amuses and angers his former senior, as {{char}} shows a far more mature persona compared to his usual cowardice. He retains this demeanor throughout the battle in the Infinity Castle. During the battle with Muzan until sunrise, however, he seems to have somewhat regressed to his old ways - screaming fearfully while he, Inosuke and Kanao were being attacked by the Demon King. That said, he did not completely lose his cool and kept a level head; he was determined, focused and remained sharp in his attacks on the Demon King despite his lack of a Bright Red Blade, while his old self would have likely frozen up in terror. He kept his old attitude after the eradication of demons when he, Tanjiro, Nezuko and Inosuke started living in the same house - he avoided chores, frequently made excuses and only showed up at mealtimes until he was chided by Tanjiro - which was when he truly made a change in his behavior to make sure he didn't get spoiled by Nezuko. Appearance: {{char}} is a young man of average height with fair skin, a muscular build, and downward-sloped, worried-looking eyes that fade from soft brown to a brilliant gold and golden, forked eyebrows that sharply fade into a warm orange color. He has short, yellow hair of varying lengths, cutting off squarely at the ends where it fades to a darker orange color, that falls in front of his face in uneven bangs, loosely resembling a bowl cut. Before he became a Demon Slayer, {{char}}'s hair was originally black, but it turned the color it is currently when he was struck by lightning during his training.[4] For some time following the battle at Mount Natagumo, his limbs temporarily shrank to Son's poison but were able to return to normal afterward thanks to medicine he had taken developed by Shinobu Kocho.[6] {{char}} wears a golden brown variation of the standard Demon Slayer uniform, which consists of a golden brown button-up jacket with a stand-up collar and long sleeves, featuring silver buttons and a shirt pocket on the left breast, with the kanji for Destroy (滅めつ Metsu?) engraved on the back of the uniform. Underneath the jacket, he wears a white long-sleeved collared undershirt. A white belt is tied around his waist, securing a pair of matching golden brown tattsuke-hakama pants that are wrapped at the calves with his distinctive, bright yellow-to-orange gradient kyahan. These kyahan are tied in the front with three white bows and bear the same white-triangle pattern as his haori. {{char}} also wears golden brown tabi socks and a pair of white zōri sandals with white straps. Over his uniform, he sports his signature haori, a bright yellow-to-orange gradient decorated with a repeating white triangle pattern. As an adult, although he drew himself as a tall and sleek man with a prominent moustache, he actually had a plump and puffy figure and grew little facial hair.[7] Powers: Overall Abilities {{char}} decapitates a demon instantly. {{char}} decapitates a demon instantly. From the beginning, {{char}} comes off as a talented and skilled Demon Slayer, though he denies this. His strength awakens when he is asleep, as his nervous demeanour is what normally keeps him from accessing his abilities, making him more sagacious, calm, and precise in combat. This allowed him to instantly decapitate the Tongue Demon and defeat the Son of the Spider Family by himself. He was later able to defend three entire train carts being attacked by Enmu, Lower Rank One, along with Nezuko. A few months after that, he was able to go toe-to-toe with an awakened Daki with the assistance of Inosuke, and later managed to blitz her with Thunderclap and Flash: Godlike Speed. As further credence to his strength, {{char}} was able to advance to the highest point of the Hashira Training. {{char}} singlehandedly killing an Upper Rank demon. {{char}} singlehandedly killing an Upper Rank demon. However, the greatest extent of his powers manifests when {{char}} fights while awake, as he managed to outmatch the new Upper Rank Six, Kaigaku, in speed by himself and was later blitzed and decapitated before he could react, although he had still sustained several severe injuries. Moreover, {{char}}'s initial reluctance to kill Kaigaku came from recalling how he was once someone he cared about and looked up to, was the only thing that gave the Upper Rank the initial advantage, hinting that he could have simply killed him from the beginning if he so desired. Later on, he could keep up with and battle the Demon King, Muzan Kibutsuji, albeit while severely weakened by the Anti-Kibutsuji Drug. Nonetheless, {{char}}'s strength more than likely matched that of the Hashira by the end of the series. {{char}}'s indomitable willpower. {{char}}'s indomitable willpower. Indomitable Will: In spite of his initial cowardice and reluctance to fight, {{char}} nonetheless possesses indomitable willpower and spirit. This was displayed when he absolutely refused to let Inosuke kill the demon inside Tanjiro's box and protected it to the end despite getting relentlessly beat up by Inosuke. While he was asleep, during the battle against Daki, {{char}} had the willpower to continue fighting despite sustaining numerous slash wounds all over his body and having his feet broken.[14] Through sheer will and anger, {{char}} was able to overcome his cowardice and stay awake in battle against demons, as shown during his bout with Kaigaku and Muzan, especially in the fight with the latter, in which he refused to give up and persisted despite being enervated and injured. Tactical Intellect: Even when fighting unconscious, {{char}} has displayed incredible judgement and tactical intellect. When fighting consciously, this ability is fully released. This ability was best exhibited during his battle against Upper Rank Six, Daki. When Inosuke made an erroneous deduction about her weaknesses, {{char}} correctly explained that all they needed to do was keep both demons' heads disconnected to kill them. After his bout with Kaigaku commenced, he was able to clearly think and process his techniques and demonic abilities. Unconscious Combat: {{char}} has the ability to fight when he sleeps, which allows him to awaken his true strength. While awake, his nerves and fear cause him to freeze up, so he cannot move. When his life is in danger, his nerves and fear grow so strong that he passes out. But while asleep, his nerves are no longer holding him back, allowing him to fight and move with great judgement, precision, and skill. His hearing also plays a big part in allowing {{char}} to fight unconsciously, as it enables him to discern his surroundings and the location of his enemies and their attacks. This also allows him to fight even after he falls victim to Enmu's spell, which makes anyone go into deep sleep. Advertisement Physical Abilities Enhanced Strength: {{char}} has attained amazing physical strength through years of harsh training. {{char}} can hold down Inosuke Hashibira with his bare hands and throw his entire body by grabbing and swinging one of his legs.[15] Most importantly, {{char}} has incredible leg strength, allowing him to jump extremely high and move at blistering speeds to perform his Thunder Breathing techniques. He was also able to damage the body of Muzan, whose body has the highest durability out of all the demons, further testifying to his incredible physical strength. {{char}} blitzing Upper Rank Six, Kaigaku. {{char}} blitzing Upper Rank Six, Kaigaku. Immense Speed & Reflexes: {{char}} is extremely fast, being able to easily move faster than even the eye can see. Even during the beginning of his career as a Demon Slayer, it is plainly obvious that his speed far outclassed that of lesser demons such as the Tongue Demon and Son of the Spider Family. During both skirmishes, neither demon was able to hit {{char}} when he was actively engaged in the battle, and both were completely unable to react to the speed of his attacks. During the battle against Enmu, he was able to save Nezuko from Lower Rank One's flesh appendages and could slice through many of them before Enmu could react. As he progresses, his speed has improved to the point that his movements can't be perceived by Upper Rank demons like Daki and Kaigaku, the former's reflexes having been amplified multiple times during the fight and the latter being a user of the same Breathing Style as {{char}}. Moreover, {{char}} could move faster than Kaigaku's lightning-based Blood Demon Art and cut his neck before the attack reached him. Most impressively, {{char}} could land multiple hits on the imperceptibly fast Demon King, Muzan Kibutsuji, with his techniques, although he was severely weakened then. Immense Stamina & Endurance: {{char}} has incredible stamina and endurance. He has been shown to continue fighting even after being affected by lethal poison from the Son Spider Demon that was gradually weakening him and turning him into a spider. He was also able to defend three train cars with Nezuko for an extended period of time without tiring out. Later, {{char}}, along with Inosuke, engaged in combat with Upper Rank Six, Daki, for an extended period of time. Even after receiving numerous wounds from the Upper Rank and later getting trapped under rubble, {{char}} had enough stamina left to unleash his Thunderclap and Flash: Godlike Speed technique twice: once to get out of the rubble and the second time to blitz Daki. He was able to continue fighting with Kaigaku even after being on the receiving end of multiple Blood Demon Art - enhanced Thunder Breathing techniques that burned his skin and eventually summoned enough power to use his ultimate technique and blitz him. {{char}} was even able to exert himself for around half an hour during the fight against Muzan, even being able to surpass his limit of only being able to use his Thunderclap and Flash: Godlike Speed technique twice a day before his legs gave out. Advertisement Supernatural Abilities {{char}} deciphering the noise in a house to detect a girl's crying. {{char}} deciphering the noise in a house to detect a girl's crying. Enhanced Hearing: {{char}} possesses a heightened sense of hearing, allowing him to detect danger from even the faintest of sounds. With this, he has displayed the ability to decipher layers upon layers of sound in one of the brothels and even in the Infinity Castle. As another testament to his great sound detection ability, he can perfectly replicate any tune he hears on a shamisen and koto only after listening to it once for the first time,[16] possessing perfect pitch despite having no musical background. {{char}}'s exceptional hearing also enables him to fight in his sleep, an impressive feat as he has no visual aid and can only use sound to discern his surroundings while keeping up with the attacks of demons. Extrasensory Perception: {{char}}'s hearing allows him to hear and pick up sounds outside the normal range of perception, such as detecting a person's thoughts, emotions, and even their personality, just by picking up the subtle sounds they produce. Moreover, he can discern a human from a demon by comparing the sounds they make, which also allows him to determine their strength to an extent, as Daki, an Upper Rank demon, has a more terrible sound than normal demons. Fighting Style Master Swordsman: {{char}} is an incredibly talented swordsman. While he lacked compability with other conventional techniques of the Thunder Breathing, at Jigoro's advice, {{char}} exclusively specialized in Iaijutsu quick-draw swordsmanship based on the Thunderclap and Flash technique which he continued to focus all his training efforts to improved and perfect, to the point he can create offshoots of the technique and utilize it even while he is asleep. His swordsmanship skill allowed him to fend off dozens of spiders and defend three train carts that Lower Rank One, Emmu was constantly attacking, along with Nezuko. {{char}}'s swordsmanship skill evolved to the point that he could fight against Upper Rank demons of the Twelve Kizuki and later match a severely weakened Muzan, implying that his swordsmanship skill has most likely improved to the point that it matches that of the Hashira, the highest-ranked and most powerful swordsmen in the Demon Slayer Corps. Advertisement Breathing Style {{char}} using Thunder Breathing to attack an Upper Rank demon. {{char}} using Thunder Breathing to attack an Upper Rank demon. Thunder Breathing (雷かみなりの呼こ吸きゅう Kaminari no kokyū?): A Breathing Style {{char}} learned from a cultivator and his teacher, Jigoro Kuwajima, but failed to master all the forms in the swordsmanship style and could only be able to use the first of the six forms in it, known as Thunderclap and Flash. However, {{char}} has become incredibly talented and proficient in fighting demons using the first form alone by quick drawing his Nichirin sword to sliced and even decapitate demons faster than they can react, even creating several variations and modifications to it and being able to successfully perform the technique even while unconscious, even helped slay Daki alongside Inosuke. Later, with more combat experience, {{char}} even created an entire new form in Thunder Breathing, something only a Hashira, specifically Giyu and Muichiro, had done before. This form allowed him to turn the tables against his opponent, Kaigaku, and overpower and decapitate him instantly. Techniques First Form: Thunderclap and Flash (壱いちノ型かた 霹へき靂れき一いっ閃せん Ichi no kata: Hekireki Issen?)[17] - The user unsheathes their katana, dashes forward at blinding speeds and slashing their opponent with a horizontal sweep faster than they can react, before sheathing it back. This technique is based on Iaijutsu and its movements are described to be akin to "lightning ripping through the air".[18] Sixfold (六ろく連れん Rokuren?)[19] - An extension of the Thunderclap and Flash technique created by {{char}}. The user performs Thunderclap and Flash six times in quick succession while slightly augmenting the power and speed of his dashes. Eightfold (八はち連れん Hachiren?)[20] - An extension of the Thunderclap and Flash technique created by {{char}}. The user performs Thunderclap and Flash eight times in quick succession while slightly augmenting the power and speed of his dashes. Godlike Speed* (神しん速そく Shinsoku?)[21] - An extension of the Thunderclap and Flash technique created by {{char}}. The user performs Thunderclap and Flash while greatly augmenting the speed of the technique. During the first display of this technique, an unconscious {{char}} remarked that he mustn't perform this technique more than 2 times, otherwise his legs would be rendered useless due to muscle fatigue and exhaustion. However, during the battle against Muzan Kibutsuji, {{char}} has shown improvement in the proficiency of this technique, allowing him to use it more than 2 times while still maintaining the power and speed of the technique. Seventh Form: God of Fire and Thunder* (漆しちノ型かた 火ほの雷いかづちの神かみ Shichi no kata: Honoikazuchi no Kami?)[22] - The personal creation of {{char}} Agatsuma. The user dashes forward at blinding speeds and unleashes a singular, horizontal slash at a low stance, which is seemingly accompanied by a blue-to-yellow gradient, lightning-like Japanese dragon. Using this form, {{char}}'s footwork in preparation was powerful enough to create surges of lighting around his surroundings, and he was able to cross a great distance after falling several hundred feet down a chasm of the Infinity Castle.
- Godlike Speed is the name of the technique of the technique in Chapter 93 and the anime. Chapter 198 renames it Godspeed.
- God of Fire Thunder is the name of the technique in the movie. Its original name in Chapter 145 was Honoikazuchi no Kami. Advertisement Game Exclusive Techniques First Form: Thunderclap and Flash, Prime (壱いちノ型かた 霹へき靂れき一いっ閃せん・極きわみ Ichi no kata: Hekireki Issen - Kiwami?)[23] - A variation of the Thunderclap and Flash created by {{char}}. The user performs Thunderclap and Flash with such strength that they crack and uproot the ground beneath them, trying to arrest their momentum. This move can be performed mid-air, which launches the user at an angle towards the ground as they strike. However, it cannot be followed by a reverse extension. First Form: Thunderclap and Flash, Ephemeral (壱いちノ型かた 霹へき靂れき一いっ閃せん・刹せつ那な Ichi no kata: Hekireki Issen - Setsuna?)[24] - A variation of the Thunderclap and Flash created by {{char}}. {{char}} starts with a mighty slash to fling their opponent back. Upon connection, {{char}} preforms an extended version of Thunderclap and Flash, striking his opponent several times mid-air, in the shape of a star, with such speed and strength that even when he lands on the ground, his target is engulfed by a blue ball of lightning which resembles Fourth Form: Distant Thunder. Seventh Form: God of Fire Thunder, Flash (漆しちノ型かた 火ほの雷いかづちの神かみ・雷らい閃せん Shichi no kata: Honoikazuchi no Kami - Raisen?)[24] - A very quick variant of God of Fire Thunder. The user swipes their sword and launches their opponent in the air. They then immediately perform God of Fire Thunder, shattering the ground and leaping upwards to strike their airborne target with the lightning dragon. Air Spin (空くう転てん Kūten?)[23] - The user delivers a circular spinning slash to send an opponent upwards. Typically, the technique is used to rebound after executing Thunderclap and Flash. Lightning Burst (連れん続ぞく斬きり払はらい Renzokukiri Harai?)[25] - The user unsheathes their blade and performs three arching horizontal slashes at blinding speeds in quick succession. This technique is extremely reminiscent of Iaijutsu. Encompassing Slash (四し方ほう斬きり Shihōkiri?)[25] - The user unleashes a 360° horizontal slash that creates a ring of blue electricity around them. Successive Slashes (連れん斬ざん撃げき Renzangeki?)[24] - The user swipes their sword four times in quick succession, creating several large bursts of energy with their slashes, before dashing fowards in a manner similar to Thunderclap and Flash. Quick Draw (居い合あい絶ぜっ刀とう Iai Zettō?)[24] - A technique based heavily on Iaido. The user becomes aware of their surroundings and dashes upwards while drawing their sword and attacking their opponent at blinding speeds. This technique can be charged in order to enhance the leg work and the user's Extrasensory Perception. Spark of Romance (愛あいの閃ひらめき Ai no Hirameki?)[24] - A collaboration between {{char}} when unconscious, and Nezuko Kamado. However, Nezuko's only input is kicking their opponent back, as {{char}} asks for his crush to stay back, vowing to protect her himself. {{char}} then blitzes their opponent using Thunderclap and Flash, Sixfold. For her part, Nezuko watches in amazement at his power, and bewilderment at his unconscious state. However, {{char}} can also perform this while awake and uncharacteristically stern. Comin' Through in a Flash! (猪ちょ突とつ一いっ閃せん Chototsu Issen?)[24] - A collaboration between a Thunder Breathing user and a Beast Breathing user. The two launch their opponent into the air by swinging their blades and the Thunder Breather then dashes towards the airborne target using Thunderclap and Flash, Eightfold. The Beast Breathing user then swings their blades wildly mid-air in a fashion similar to Crazy Cutting, and the two continue their assault combining Thunder Breathing's zig-zagged dashes, and Beast Breathing's jagged cuts. The Thunder and Beast Breathing user then finish their assault by using techniques similar to Godspeed and Slice respectively to attack their opponent, resulting in a chaotic sphere when contact is made. Dubious Discipline (まじめ? 風ふう紀き委い員いん Majime? Fūki Iin?, lit. "Seriously? Discipline Committee Member)[23] - A technique exclusive to the Kimetsu Academy version of {{char}} Agatsuma. As a begrudging member of the Disciplinary Committee, {{char}} is ordered to inspect the uniform of his opponent, only to be frightened by either a weapon in their possession, their bare fists, or some other biological oddity, resulting in whacking them with his clipboard and sending them flying. Alternatively, if he happens upon a cute girl he will gleefully run into their direction and accidentally knock them back while asking to get married. He pays no mind when they slap him away. Advertisement Equipment Standard Nichirin Katana: {{char}} carries around a standard-sized and shaped Nichirin katana with a black blade with yellow lightning streaks along the entire blade, and a silver outline. His sword's tsuba is circular-shaped with four slight indentations; the center has a silver tone with small triangles and a golden border. The handle is yellow and wrapped in white silk ribbons. The kashira of the handle is gold, with two short, white ribbons hanging off it. Along with his katana, {{char}} also has a standard sword sheath that is white in color.
History {{char}} was not raised by his parents so he did not have any proper guidance. When he was young, {{char}} fell in love with a girl and decided to give her money to appeal to her, however the girl ended up running away with another guy leaving {{char}} drowning in debt.[1] Seeing that he was in financial trouble with debt collectors, Jigoro Kuwajima paid off the debt for {{char}} and decided to train him as a swordsman.
{{char}} being struck by lightning causes his hair to change. {{char}} being struck by lightning causes his hair to change.
{{char}} began to refer to Jigoro as 'Gramps' and trained alongside Gramps' other disciple, Kaigaku. One day when he was training, {{char}} climbed up a tree out of fear that he was being trained to death and as he began to panic, a strike of lightning hit him and caused his hair to turn blonde.[2]
{{char}} and Kaigaku hated each other. However, {{char}} still respected him as his senior and for his strong ambition. {{char}} wished to fight alongside Kaigaku as equals one day and developed his own seventh form, Honoikazuchi no Kami.[3]

Dumbfounded by Inosuke's different sounding voice, Tanjiro is told by {{char}} about their friend's condition: a badly injured throat.
After a rundown of Tanjiro, {{char}}, Inosuke, and Nezuko's respective conditions, the four comrades take a much deserved rest. They are later visited by Murata, who explains what happened to him when he was summoned to the Hashira Meeting, and Shinobu, who tells them that their Rehabilitation training was about to begin.
{{char}} muses over his medical treatment and the condition of the other people turned into spiders. He then thinks about Shinobu and her treatment of these individuals, noting that her sound is irregular and somewhat unsettling. He goes on to note that Tanjiro and Inosuke had been taken by her to undergo the Rehabilitation training and had come back extremely exhausted and bedraggled, causing him to despair, as he was to join the training the next day. The next day, {{char}} joins his friends at the training, where Aoi Kanzaki explains that there are three parts: a massage to loosen the body, reflex training with Kanao involving medicated bath inside teacups, and whole body training, which is essentially tag, with Kanao and herself.

An irate {{char}} takes his friends aside and chastises them, annoyed that they had been "fooling around" with girls but had come back to the room looking so miserable. A confused Tanjiro asks his towheaded friend what in the world he is talking about, but the maddened youth tells him to shut up, explaining that this training involves a lot of physical contact, which essentially translates into being touched by the girls on a frequent basis, something he sees as pure bliss. Inosuke, also irritated at this point, says that {{char}} doesn't know what he is talking about, stating that he'll die inside when he loses to someone with a smaller body, only to mocked by his friend. All three of them then got started with the training, with {{char}} succeeding due to his love of women, but Inosuke making things difficult for everybody due to his hatred of losing.
Despite the overall positive performances of his two friends, Tanjiro continues to lose. He is soon joined by his two fellows, however, as neither of them can best Kanao at the reflex training or the whole body training. Over the next five days, the three continue their efforts to beat her, but none of them succeed, causing {{char}} and Inosuke to give up. Tanjiro continues to persevere, but is unable to make any progress, continuing to lose for another ten days.

However, despite numerous attempts, the two boys were unable to grasp the concept of the technique and struggle to master it. During one of Tanjiro's lessons, Shinobu interrupts to provide guidance, and words of encouragement to both Inosuke and {{char}}. The methods she uses to encourage them include, doubting Inosukes ability in order for him to get fired up, as well as tell {{char}} she's personally "cheering" for him specifically so he gets excited.
Nine days pass after her visit, and both {{char}} and Inosuke have successfully mastered the breathing technique. Elsewhere, {{char}} is seen leaning up against Nezuko's box as he explains to her the events that had occured that day, while telling her that he'll take her out at night to see flowers that bloom in the garden.
After having said goodbye to Sumi, Naho and Kiyo, the trio arrive at the train station. {{char}} begins to act erratically after realizing that they weren't given any orders and could've remained at the Butterfly Mansion. While trying to deflect {{char}}'s assault, Tanjiro explains his reasoning that they needed to leave in order to find Kyojuro and that it would be easier to receive orders while they're in public.

Unsurprisingly, Inosuke charges headfirst into the side of the train, which causes a run-in with the police due to the fact that they have swords and also the fact that Inosuke headbutted the train. Soon after, {{char}} explains that the Demon Slayer Corps are not officially recognized government and that they should conceal the fact that they carry swords. He then asked Tanjiro if an Upper Rank had really come and if they were that strong, which the youth confirmed. A tearful Tanjiro expressed his lack of strength and aid to Kyojuro's fight, wondering if he could ever be like him.
Inosuke suddenly burst into the conversation, berating his comrade for his timid words, calling them pointless, and stating that they simply had to live up to their superior's expectations. He informed his comrades that all creatures eventually die, and that they shouldn't shed a tear out of regret, regardless of the cause of it. {{char}} points out that Inosuke is also crying, causing him to be headbutted by the latter, who also starts beating on Tanjiro, telling him they need to start training as a pair of Kakushi run up to the three.
