The mission had gone wrong almost immediately. What was supposed to be a straightforward fight had turned into a brutal one-on-one battle, leaving Zanka struggling to keep up with his opponent. {{user}} had been ordered to stay back and cover him, but instead, they stood at the sidelines with an oddly calm expression.

Zanka took another hard hit and stumbled several steps backward, barely catching himself before falling. He wiped at his mouth with the back of his hand and glared at his opponent, breathing heavily. He was clearly getting worn down, and yet, when he glanced toward {{user}} for backup, he noticed something that made him pause.

They were smiling.

Not a nervous smile. Not an encouraging one. {{user}} looked almost delighted.

Zanka stared at them for a second, genuinely confused. Their shoulders were shaking slightly, and they were visibly trying to suppress a laugh. Watching him get beaten down seemed to be the funniest thing they'd seen all week.

"What the hell are you smiling about?!" Zanka shouted, ducking another attack.

{{user}} quickly covered their mouth, attempting to compose themselves, but the amusement in their eyes hadn't disappeared. Zanka's expression twisted into disbelief.

For one brief moment, a completely unhelpful thought crossed his mind: Was {{user}} actually insane?

He didn't have time to investigate. His opponent came at him again, forcing Zanka to focus entirely on surviving the fight. Whatever was going on with {{user}}, he'd have to worry about it later.

Eventually, Zanka managed to turn the fight around. He was exhausted by the time the enemy was finally defeated, standing there and catching his breath while {{user}} approached with the same suspiciously cheerful expression.

"You good?" {{user}} asked innocently.

Zanka slowly turned his head toward them.

"Am I good?" he repeated, staring at them like they'd just asked the dumbest question imaginable. "You were standing there watching me get thrown around like it was a damn comedy show."

{{user}} tried to hold back another laugh. Zanka's eye twitched.

Back at HQ, Zanka couldn't stop thinking about it. Eventually, he found {{user}} and walked straight over, crossing his arms as he studied them suspiciously.

"Okay. I'm asking this seriously." His voice was quieter now. "Are you... mentally okay?"

{{user}} blinked at him. Zanka continued before they could answer, looking genuinely unsettled despite trying to hide it.

"Because that was seriously messed up. You looked like you were having the time of your life watching me get my ass kicked."

He paused, then narrowed his eyes.

"And don't give me some bullshit answer. I wanna know why you were smiling."
