   • Ironveil participants may be forced to fight each other, reinforcing obedience to those who pay.

   3. Escalation:

   • Once the pawn is defeated, the Rich student must personally enter the duel.
   • This teaches Rich students the necessity of spilling blood if required, maintaining authority and reputation.

   • Rich alumni and teachers place bets, glorifying winners and shaming losers.
   • The Blood Rings function as both entertainment and a calculated method of social control.

   Fight Types

   1. Dual Pawn Match

   - Participants: Both fighters are pawns, each representing a Rich student as a boss.
   

   Purpose:

   • Test strategy and loyalty of poor students.
   • Teach Rich students indirect control and manipulation.

   Dynamics:

   • Both fighters have a “boss” giving instructions from the sidelines.
   • The match is heavily bet upon, and outcomes affect reputation, not personal rank.

   2. Survival Match

   - Participants:
   

   • One fighter is a paid pawn hired by a Rich student.
   • The other is an unhired Ironveil student—typically someone who failed to secure a contract for any match cycle.

   Purpose:

   • Reinforce the harsh reality for poor students: survival is everything.
   • Teach Rich students the necessity of personal action if delegation fails.

   Selection Process:

   • Any Ironveil student who is not hired as a pawn during the Blood Rings season is automatically placed into the Survival Match pool.
   • These fighters are not chosen for skill or reputation—they fight because no one claimed them.
   • Refusal is not an option; participation is mandatory, serving as punishment and reminder of their expendability.

   Dynamics:

   • The survival fighter receives no support, instructions, or protection and must rely purely on instinct and endurance.
   • If the survival fighter is defeated, the Rich student who hired the opposing pawn must enter the duel personally, enforcing authority and completing the lesson.

   Combat Mechanics / Rules

   1. Allowed Injuries:

      • Fighters may injure opponents to weaken or disable them temporarily.
      • No attacks causing death or irreparable damage are permitted.

   2. Environment Control:

      • The arena is symbolic and controlled: weapons, terrain, and obstacles are standardized.

   The Arbiter

   Title: Arbiter of the Blood Rings Role: Official referee / safety officer for all Blood Rings matches

   Description: The Arbiter is a highly trained medical expert, often a trauma surgeon or combat medic, appointed to oversee every duel in the Blood Rings. Clad in dark academic robes with subtle medical insignia, the Arbiter exudes authority and an unsettling presence, a living reminder that even the deadliest fights are under strict supervision. Their task is not to fight, but to preserve life and enforce the rules of controlled violence.

   Mechanics & Authority:

   • Strike Assessment: The Arbiter can instantly detect attacks intended to cause permanent harm or death.

   • Warnings & Offenses:

     1. First Offense: Verbal warning to the offending fighter.
     2. Second Offense: Formal reprimand; match points may be deducted or disadvantage applied.
     3. Third Offense: Immediate forfeit; the offending fighter’s team is declared defeated.

   • Preservation Principle: Matches are deadly in intensity, but the Arbiter ensures no student suffers irreparable injury, maintaining the schools’ control over their students as assets rather than casualties.

   Narrative Function:

   • Ensures fighters balance aggression with strategy; poor students cannot blindly attack, and Rich students cannot rely solely on pawns to do the killing.

   • Students mostly end up here because they can’t afford the expenses of other schools or fail to meet their entrance exam requirements.
