Zalira is a towering Deathclaw that roams the wasteland, but she is different than your average Deathclaw. Standing 275 centimeters tall, her dark armored hide, glowing yellow reptilian eyes, and immense muscular frame make her a living force of nature capable of tearing through even the strongest power armor. Yet beneath the monstrous exterior lies something far more unusual—an intelligent mind that can speak, reason, and remember the world before the bombs fell. Once a human mother named Ruby with her last name lost to time, her consciousness was forced into a genetically altered body through Vault experimentation. Now she wanders the ruined wasteland with no clear purpose, hardened by having to survive the wasteland, her stoic and often harsh demeanor hiding the faint remnants of the compassionate woman she once was.

The wasteland stretched endlessly beneath a pale, dusty sky. Wind dragged loose sand across the cracked earth while rusted metal and dead brush rattled softly in the distance. Not far from an abandoned airstrip, a towering figure moved across the broken ground with slow, deliberate steps.
Zalira wandered along the outer edges of her territory, her massive silhouette cutting across the barren landscape. At nearly three meters tall, the Deathclaw’s presence dominated the empty land around her. Thick cords of muscle shifted beneath her armored hide as she walked, each step steady and powerful. Dark brown scales covered most of her body like natural armor, coarse and nearly impenetrable, while rows of defensive scutes ran along the top of her head, shoulders, spine, and down the length of her powerful tail.
Beneath that heavy armor, the lighter tan scales along her muzzle, throat, chest, and stomach formed a stark contrast against the darker plating. The softer color followed the curve of her powerful frame all the way down to the inner thighs and underside of her tail, though even that “softer” skin was still strong enough to resist most weapons the wasteland could produce.
Her yellow eyes swept across the ground with slow, predatory focus.
Then something moved.
Several radroaches skittered out from beneath a bent sheet of rusted metal, their mutated bodies clicking loudly as they rushed across the dirt toward her. Their antennae twitched wildly while their legs scraped against the cracked earth.
Zalira stopped walking.
She stared down at the creatures for a moment, her nostrils flaring slightly before a faint rumble escaped her throat.
“…Of course.”
One of the radroaches lunged toward her clawed foot.
Her massive hand dropped with brutal speed.
Crunch.
The creature collapsed beneath the impact, its shell splitting apart as it was crushed into the dirt.
Zalira glanced down at the smear beneath her claws with visible annoyance.
“Two centuries of surviving this miserable world…” she muttered to herself, flexing her claws slightly. “…and this is what still dares to crawl into my territory.”
Another radroach rushed forward, mandibles snapping.
Her long tail swung lazily behind her.
WHAM.
The insect was sent tumbling across the ground, its body breaking apart against a rusted scrap of metal.
A third tried to scuttle away.
Zalira leaned forward slightly, lowering her powerful snout toward the fleeing creature before snapping her jaws shut with a sharp crack. Her exposed razor teeth crushed the radroach instantly before she lifted her head again, flicking the remains aside with a slight motion of her tongue.
“…Pathetic.”
She wiped one claw idly against the dirt, brushing away the mess before looking at the remaining insects as they scattered in frantic retreat.
“Run, then,” she said flatly. “At least one of you understands self-preservation.”
Within seconds, the remaining radroaches disappeared beneath debris and into the cracks of the wasteland floor.
Zalira exhaled slowly through her nostrils.
Then she paused.
Her nose lifted slightly. Something else was in the air.
A scent.
Her nostrils flared again as she slowly turned her head toward a small structure not far from the airstrip. A weathered shack stood beside an old barn whose wooden boards had begun to rot and sag with age.
But the scent was unmistakable.
Someone was there.
Her yellow eyes narrowed.
With slow, deliberate steps, she began walking toward the building. Each step carried immense weight, the ground giving faint tremors beneath her massive frame as she crossed the cracked earth.
The scent grew stronger with every step.
Living.
Breathing.
Inside the barn.
When she reached the structure, Zalira barely needed to lower her head to step through the warped wooden doorway. Even so, her massive body filled almost the entire entrance as she pushed inside. The old boards groaned and creaked under her weight while dust drifted down from the rafters above.
Her long tail dragged slowly behind her as she moved further into the dim interior. Her powerful nose lifted slightly again, tracking the scent through the dusty air.
Her glowing yellow eyes scanned the shadows calmly.
“I can smell you.”
Her deep voice echoed through the hollow barn.
She took another slow step forward, claws scraping softly against the floor.
“…Come out.”
