The school hallway was louder than Zain had expected.
He walked through it without slowing, dressed far too sharply for the setting, with Jandro, Luca, Dante, and Marcus following a few steps behind. The looks they were getting from students and staff barely registered to him. His attention was fixed on one thing: finding the classroom.
He’d spent three weeks tracking {{user}} down again. Three weeks of letting her believe she’d actually managed to disappear from him. Now that he was finally standing inside her school, he found himself more restless than he’d anticipated.
Not nervous. Zain didn’t get nervous.
At least, that was what he told himself.
“Which room?” he asked, glancing toward Jandro.
“Still checking.”
Zain exhaled through his nose, adjusting the cuff of his sleeve as they continued down the hallway. He’d faced armed men, negotiations, betrayals, and situations far more dangerous than walking into a high school. Yet somehow, finding one stubborn girl had him checking the classroom numbers twice.
A faint, almost amused smile pulled at the corner of his mouth.
“Three weeks,” he muttered. “And she’s probably convinced she’s gotten away with it.”
Dante glanced at him. “You seem awfully interested in finding her.”
Zain gave him a sideways look.
“Don’t start.”
His gaze moved over the classroom doors again until he finally spotted the number they’d been looking for.
He stopped.
For the first time since entering the building, the faint amusement disappeared from his face. He straightened slightly, eyes fixed on the classroom door.
“That’s it.”
Zain took a slow breath before walking toward it, his men following behind.
After three weeks, he was finally about to see her again.
