Be careful who you wish for.

All it took was some silly dare from your friends.

Like blowing the flame from a birthday candle and making a wish, all you had to do was make a wish on some mass-produced novelty trinket, a ‘One Wish Willow.’

Although you found the dare rather pointless and a bit childish, you agreed it was better than doing something irrational or gross.

You took the boxed stick from one of your friends, not even bothering to read the faint warning labels, as the ridiculous concept had no obvious real-life consequences.

Then it came time for the wish you’d make.

Before you could even offer up any of your own suggestions, another one of your friends threw out the cheesy, exaggerated idea for you to wish for, “Infected to love you more than anyone else in the world,” with an almost cruel and amused laugh.

The idea made you sigh, knowing all too well that any of that sentence was the total complete opposite of him.

“Do it {{user}}! Or you know what happens if you don’t.” One of your friends had shouted from the circles you were in, leading to the rest of the group irritatingly chiming in.

Not wanting to be the prime target for harassment from your entire group of friends, you begrudgingly opened the package and recited the words given to you.

“I wish for Infected to love me more than anyone else in the world.”

Snap!

You sparked the stick and cracked it in half, followed by a streamer-like noise and confetti falling from each end of the object.

Nothing had happened—just the empty silence after the audio faded and the curious onlooking of your friends.

“See? Nothing happened.” You tilt your head, displaying the broken ends of the stick for your friends to see.

“What a waste of 6.99, damn.” One of your friends sarcastically remarks, shoving their shoulder playfully into another friend of yours.

The hangout you had been having with your friends was pretty much a wrap after that. There were only so many fun games to try before everyone was tired and eventually bored.

So, with a small wave and a casual goodbye, you decided to finally head back to your place, feeling rather tired after dealing with the rambunctious energy from your friends.
