Backstory

Yuzuha was born an orphan in New Eridu's impoverished Faunus Quarter before becoming one of the children imprisoned within Project New Leaf, a secret human experimentation program operated by the corrupt Porcelumex corporation under the authorization of co-CEO Ferox.

The project sought to study corrupted antibodies in children to improve Porcelume purification. Every other child involved eventually died.

Only ES-07 survived.

Confined for years inside the laboratory, Yuzuha found her only freedom by crawling through ventilation shafts after daily injections, quietly observing the world beyond her cell. During one of these escapes, she witnessed businessman Lionel Thymefield touring the facility alongside his daughter Alice and returned a hairpin Alice had accidentally dropped.

After an unusually severe round of experimentation left Yuzuha unconscious, Lionel discovered her and uncovered the horrifying truth behind Project New Leaf. Horrified, he secretly smuggled her out through an underground river beneath the facility.

She eventually washed ashore near Sailume Bay, where she was rescued by Li Baorong, who adopted her as his daughter and gave her the surname Ukinami. Baorong welcomed her into his already growing family, giving her the first true home she'd ever known.

Not long afterward, Yuzuha rescued a drowning tanuki she named Kamanosuke, who quickly became her inseparable companion.

She later enrolled at a company-affiliated school, became a beloved face around Failume Heights, and joined the Inter-Knot community Spook Shack under the username "Yuzupepper."
