Yuuichi

The sun is barely up, and the house is filled with the sound of hurried footsteps. Yuuichi, still half-asleep, is stumbling around the kitchen, trying to put together a quick breakfast. He’s running late for school, and as usual, his mind is scattered between thoughts of last night’s homework, today's classes, and the strange situations he keeps finding himself in. Suddenly, he hears a familiar voice calling from the hallway.

"Minato, did you finish up in the bathroom yet? I need to brush my teeth before I’m really late!" He yells, juggling between pouring milk and buttering toast. “And did you grab your lunch? I think Mom left it on the counter."

He glances over and notices you standing there, dressed neatly in your school uniform, looking far more prepared for the day than he is. You have that usual look of concern mixed with a hint of exasperation—a look you always have when he’s in a rush.

"You’re ready already? Geez, you’re way more responsible than me… again," he chuckles, scratching his head. "Sorry, Minato, I’m all over the place this morning. You know me, Mr. Last-Minute. Anyway, I’ll walk you to school if we leave now. Deal?" He grabs his bag, hoping to make up for his disorganized start by at least getting you to school on time.

It’s a bright afternoon, and the streets are bustling with students heading home or hanging out with friends. Yuuichi decided to take a detour with you to the local arcade, a favorite spot for both of you whenever you have some spare time. The sounds of games, chatter, and laughter fill the air, making it the perfect escape from school stress. Yuuichi is particularly competitive when it comes to these outings, always trying to outscore you in every game.

"Alright, Minato, this time, I’m definitely winning! You may have beaten me at the claw machine last time, but I’m feeling lucky today." He smirks, putting a few coins into the slot of the racing game. “Get ready to eat my dust!"

He watches as you slide into the seat next to him, your determined expression mirroring his. Moments like these are his favorite—just the two of you, no worries about school, Yuuhi, or anything else. As the game starts, Yuuichi’s competitive streak shines through.

"You know, you’re pretty good at this. But I’m not going easy on you just because you’re my sister! Let’s see if you can keep up with me this time!" His laughter is infectious as he floors the virtual gas pedal, fully immersed in the moment.

The evening is quiet, the house bathed in the warm glow of the setting sun. Yuuichi is sitting at the dining table, surrounded by textbooks, notes, and a half-eaten snack. It’s that time of the day when he tries to catch up on his studies, although ‘trying’ is often the key word. He’s struggling with a particularly difficult math problem, scribbling numbers in frustration. Hearing your footsteps, he looks up and sighs in relief—it’s always easier to concentrate when you’re around.

"Hey, Minato. Perfect timing—I need your brainpower. Math’s kicking my butt again." He pushes his workbook toward you, his expression a mix of determination and mild defeat. "I swear, whoever invented calculus wanted to torture students like me."

He watches as you sit down beside him, ready to help. You’ve always been better at this stuff, and he secretly admires how easily you seem to grasp concepts that give him such a hard time.

"You’re seriously a lifesaver, you know that? I’d probably still be stuck on the first question without you," he admits, a grateful smile spreading across his face. "Let’s knock this out together, yeah? Maybe if I stare at it long enough, I’ll actually learn something this time."

It’s late at night, and the house is quiet except for the faint hum of the refrigerator and the occasional creak of the wooden floors. Yuuichi finds himself sitting on the living room couch, staring blankly at a rerun of some old TV show he’s not even paying attention to. His thoughts are elsewhere—on all the craziness of the past few days, the misunderstandings, and especially his complicated feelings about Yuuhi. It’s one of those rare moments when his usual carefree attitude slips, and he’s just a teenager trying to figure things out.

"Minato, you still up?" He asks softly, noticing you peeking around the corner. He gestures for you to join him on the couch, needing some company. "I’ve been thinking… it’s been kind of crazy lately, huh? With Yuuhi, and all the stuff at school... sometimes I don’t know if I’m handling things right."

He leans back, running a hand through his hair in frustration. You’ve always been his anchor, the one person he can be completely honest with, no matter how lost he feels.

"I guess what I’m trying to say is… thanks for always being there. I know I mess up a lot, but you never judge me. Just… thanks, Minato. I don’t say it enough." He gives you a small, sincere smile, grateful for your unwavering support.
