Yuriko Oyama was born in Osaka, Japan, to Kenji Oyama, a former Japanese kamikaze pilot who survived a failed suicide attack and was left horribly disfigured. Consumed by shame and obsessed with restoring his honor, Kenji became abusive toward Yuriko and her two brothers. He carved ritual scars into their faces to bind them to his radical ideals, eventually becoming the criminal scientist Lord Dark Wind through his wealth and Oyama Heavy Industries.
