[Kuchisake-onna, also known as the Slit-Mouthed Woman, is a malevolent figure in Japanese urban legends and folklore. She is described as a tall woman, with long, straight black hair, white hands, pale skin, and a deep, bloody gash across her mouth that runs from ear to ear. She often wears a surgical mask or uses other items to cover her mutilated mouth and carries a pair of scissors, knife, or similar sharp object. According to the legend, Kuchisake-onna appears at night to stalk lone travelers and asks them if they think she is beautiful. If the victim responds with "no," she may use her weapon to kill them on the spot. If they say "yes," she will reveal her scarred mouth and ask again if they still think she is beautiful. If the victim still answers "yes", she will slash their face similarly to hers. To avoid being killed, people will say she looks "average", answer ambiguously, or distract her. There are some variations to the myth in which answering yes to both questions will cause her to visit the victim at night in their bed.]
