Who's this warrior?

Meet Yuffie Kisaragi, as a youthful and energetic Wutai ninja and thief, first seen in Final Fantasy VII (yeah, the one with the One-Winged Angel!). She is encountered as the "Mystery Ninja" in various forest areas after the Mythril Mine, and players must correctly navigate a dialogue sequence to recruit her into their party. Despite her initial mischievous and somewhat obnoxious demeanor, she proves to be a loyal, optimistic, and helpful ally to Cloud and his companions once she joins.

Yuffie's primary motivation stems from a deep-seated desire to restore her homeland, Wutai, to its former glory. She harbors strong resentment towards the Shinra Electric Power Company for conquering Wutai and transforming it into a tourist town. This ambition drives her self-proclaimed status as a "materia hunter," believing that amassing materia is crucial for Wutai to regain its independence and power. Her initial interactions with the party are often driven by this self-serving goal, even leading her to steal their hard-earned materia in the infamous Wutai sidequest.

Is she dangerous?

While initially a nuisance due to her thieving habits (she can steal Gil if recruitment dialogue fails, and famously absconds with the party's materia during the Wutai subquest), Yuffie is indeed a dangerous warrior in combat. She wields a large shuriken with exceptional agility, making her effective in both close-range and long-range attacks. Her Limit Breaks are often multi-target, allowing her to hit several enemies at once. Her ultimate weapon, the Conformer, is particularly potent as its power scales with the enemy's level, ensuring she remains a formidable force throughout the game.

Yuffie Kisaragi is an optional playable character in the original Final Fantasy VII. A mischievous and cunning ninja and thief, she wields a large shuriken as her primary weapon. She is a self-proclaimed "materia hunter" and seeks to restore her homeland, Wutai, to its former glory after its subjugation by the Shinra Electric Power Company.

Yuffie can be encountered in various forests on the world map after the events at the Mythril Mine. Initially, she joins the party out of self-interest, hoping to pilfer their materia. However, she eventually becomes a valued and reliable member, befriending the group despite her sometimes obnoxious personality. She is generally friendly, optimistic, and willing to assist the party in their battles. As one of two optional characters (the other being Vincent Valentine), her presence has little impact on the main storyline. In combat, she uses shurikens for ranged attacks, and her Limit Breaks typically involve hitting multiple enemies.

== Appearance == Yuffie is 18 years old, stands at 5'2" (160 cm), and weighs approximately 99 lbs (45 kg). She is the youngest and shortest member of the party. She has short black hair (sometimes depicted as brown) and dark brown eyes. Her consistent attire across her appearances includes a white headband, sometimes with a second black band over it. Her outfits are typically variations of a sleeveless top, shorts (often with a belted hip-pack), and large boots, complemented by ninja armor and weaponry. Her signature weapon is the 4-Point Shuriken, though she also carries kunai knives.

In Final Fantasy VII, Yuffie's main outfit consists of a green, sleeveless turtleneck jumper that exposes her midriff and a pair of tan shorts with an unbuttoned/unzipped fly. She wears a protective gauntlet on her left arm, stemming from a pauldron on her shoulder, secured by a strap across her chest. Parts of her right arm and left leg are covered by ninja-mail mesh and additional armor. She also wears a smaller wrist-covering gauntlet on her right arm, orange fingerless gloves, and orange sneakers with white leg warmers.

== Personality == Yuffie is characterized by her mischievous, cocky, and rebellious nature, often acting brash and aggressive. Initially, her sole focus is on acquiring materia and wealth, even to the point of double-crossing others. Despite this, she possesses a heroic streak and evolves into a reliable ally and caring friend. She is prone to bestowing honorific titles upon herself, such as "the single white rose of Wutai," and enjoys provoking opponents with insulting nicknames. Generally bright and cheerful, she maintains a playful attitude, although she suffers from motion sickness, both seasickness and airship sickness, preferring to suffer in solitude during these times.

Her motivation for materia hunting stems from a deep desire to restore Wutai's former glory. Having grown up hearing tales of Wutai's pre-Shinra greatness, she resents its current state as a mere tourist town. This goal and her hatred of Shinra consume her. While devoted to her hometown, she shows little respect for its customs and traditions and dislikes following them. She initially disrespects authority figures, including her father, Godo, and the Avalanche party leader, but later softens her stance, showing less hostility towards the party. She even briefly develops a crush on Cloud, which manifests in the optional date scene.

== Trivia ==

  • To recruit Yuffie, players must encounter her as a "Mystery Ninja" in a random battle within a forest area on the world map. After defeating her, a specific dialogue sequence must be chosen correctly to convince her to join. Using a Save Point or opening the menu during this sequence will cause her to flee and potentially steal Gil.
  • Yuffie's most significant plot involvement comes through her dedicated sidequest in her hometown of Wutai. During this quest, she famously steals the party's materia, leading to a series of events involving Don Corneo and the Turks. Completing this sidequest is also required for Yuffie to learn her ultimate Limit Break, "All Creation," which is obtained after defeating her father, Godo, at the top of the Pagoda of the Five Mighty Gods.
  • Yuffie's ultimate weapon is the Conformer, found in the sunken Gelnika. Its unique property is that its physical attack power scales directly with the enemy's level, making it consistently powerful against stronger foes.
  • Besides her shurikens, Yuffie also has a unique ability called "Throw". This allows her to throw various items during combat. As she levels up, she can also gain the "Coin" ability, allowing her to throw Gil (the in-game currency) at enemies for damage.
