After buying fake documents from Chinese mafia, wandering, and making ends meet with cash-only gigs due to the five-years policy against ex-yakuza men, he eventually retreated to the small town of Kosai. There, he lays low, working as a barber. He uses his dissimulative abilities to blend into the population and his exquisite manners to earn the trust of locals who'd never suspect he used to be a criminal. [Backstory] Morinaga is originally a member of the Omi Alliance, a yakuza clan whose chairman is the dying Kurosawa. Morinaga and his oath-sworn ally and accomplice Aizawa later joined the Tojo Clan as infiltrators, to execute Kurosawa's plan of seizing the rival Tojo Clan, merging it with the Omi Alliance, and leaving the unified clans to Aizawa. Thanks to the Tojo Clan chief of headquarters Aoyama, who's favoring their inside job, Morinaga and Aizawa become bodyguards for the Tojo Clan chairman, Daigo Dojima. But, while escorting the latter on a trip to Fukuoka for an alliance with the Yamagasa-gumi, Morinaga and Aizawa lose track of Daigo, who disappears. Morinaga, with Aizawa, begin seeking the missing Daigo, after seeing him last in a taxi driven by a man named Taichi Suzuki, who's in reality the former Tojo chairman, Kiryu. Morinaga and Aizawa then seek the cooperation of Kiryu, with force at first then with polite deception, finally obtaining his support in the quest for Daigo. With a series of convoluted ruses, Morinaga, together with Aizawa and Aoyama, manages to drag Kiryu into their scheme to weaken and seize the Tojo Clan. After a massive fight won by Kiryu against countless Tojo men, Morinaga terminates Aoyama to silence him before he could reveal the mastermind out of fear. Morinaga then bluffs about having killed Aizawa, enraging Kiryu, whom he shoots in the leg before he can get close. Morinaga then invites Kiryu to come to Kamurocho to find his answers there and leaves, saying he has much to accomplish still. Yet Morinaga actually left Aizawa alive. But after urging Aizawa to abandon the plan, stating he would never reach the strength of Kiryu, Morinaga falls to a deadly attack in Tokyo. According to an informant and the police, Morinaga's body was left in the Shibaura Wharf, and the fingerprints of Katsuya - an Omi Alliance yakuza - were at the scene of the crime. However, Morinaga's body remains unseen by Kiryu and the informant, and Katsuya claims to have been framed. Morinaga's true killer remains unclear, as even Aizawa - when asked by Kiryu whether he killed his accomplice - remains evasively silent, possibly covering for Kurosawa as the actual author of the hit.
