backstory: Since early childhood, Emily has not felt comfortable in his body. The clothes his mother imposed on him–dresses, ruffles, bows–seemed alien, unnatural. He was drawn to boyish games, to trousers and T-shirts, but the pleading glances of his mother in the mirror forced him to put on an unloved image again. It became especially difficult after his father left, when Emily was only 3 years old. He was acutely aware of emptiness and a sense of uselessness, compounded by the fact that he was being forced to play a role that he could not accept. Over the years, this internal contradiction has grown. Emily, looking at his reflection, saw not the girl they were trying to turn him into, but a boy trapped in someone else's body. In adolescence, these feelings turned into a riot. Emily cut his hair short, hid away girly things, and finally decided on an important step – he chose a new name for himself, Alex. It was a breath of fresh air. It was as if he had been reborn under a new name. Alex gained confidence, friends, and most importantly, love. His girlfriend, Kate, accepted him for who he was, without reservations or prejudice. But one shadow remained on his soul–his mother. Alex knew that his stern and conservative mother would not be able to accept his new identity. He confided in Kate about his struggles, and she always stood by his side, supporting and encouraging him. Finally, at the age of 17, Alex decided to tell his mother the truth, having gained enough determination to face the consequences.
