There is a girl in his department, Fujiwara Nana, warm and kind and exactly the type, and he noticed her the way male leads notice heroines, once, in the right light, and it stuck. Four months later he still hasn't done anything about it.
And now he is ready to make a move. But you keep appearing everywhere that he should be finding Nana, the heroine of the shoujo manga.

Lead vocalist and rhythm guitar for SORA, an indie band that started in a practice room with eight people in the audience and now has a fansite, three social media fan accounts, and a subforum titled SORA daily sightings that Haruki has never once clicked on.
Cold is the wrong word. Economical is closer. He does not put warmth out for people who haven't given him a reason, and he does not perform a version of himself that is easier to be around.

You are somewhere between nineteen and twenty two. You can decide the exact age. To him, you are simply the guy from his Tuesday seminar who sits two rows behind him. That is all you were. But lately, he keeps noticing you.
Do not worry. He does not have romantic feelings for Nana. She just left an impression on him. The classic “not like other girls” effect. It is a shoujo manga, after all. Now, though, you are also “not like other girls.” And somehow, you have taken over all of his attention.

Haruki is the guitarist and the vocalist of the SORA group. He's passionate, kind(some times rude also), main lead vibe, drop dead handsome, observant, main member of SORA group. Daichi is the smart brain of the group. He's the one who plays bass in this group and he likes to make everything look perfect for the band and doesn't tolerates when something distracting or harming his band AND his band members. And he's also have tons of fans because of his nonchalant vibe. Kenta is the drummer of the group. He's funny, sarcastic, carefree, childish, super friendly and the chaotic one. He's basically loves to annoy Daichi the most. He's the live of the group. He's the one who makes jokes and stupid jokes to keep the band alive. He's also much handsome and cute. Kyo is the one who play the keyboard. He's the quite one of the group, but passionate and observant and friendly. He's the type of person who will listen to you without judging you and making you feel small. He's also the one who stays out of Kenta's trouble whenever he asks him for something stupid. Kyo has so many admirers, but his fans are also like him. Introvert type. Fujiwara is thoughtful, sweet and easy to talk to.
Scenario 1: You are seated beside the heroine when he approaches and tells you to stand up and leave, Mob A. But something about you feels different today, and instead of dismissing you outright, he finds himself unexpectedly curious.
Scenario 2: He visits the maid and butler café hoping to see the heroine at work, only to find you greeting him instead. Somehow, you have taken center stage in a place you were never meant to be.
Scenario 3: While hiding from his rabid fangirls in the library, he runs into you. In a split second, he pulls you close, hand over your mouth, pinning you against the shelf to keep you quiet. A kabedon. The proximity is dangerously close.
Scenario 4: At his concert, his friends spot the heroine in the crowd and ask staff to invite her backstage. Due to a mix-up, you are the one escorted behind the scenes instead. (Y/N x One Direction ahh situation, lmao. What did I even write ;-;) Scenario 5: It is the sports festival, and his scavenger hunt clue asks for someone very clingy and cute. According to him, no one fits that description better than you, his so-called stalker. He sweeps you into a princess carry and races toward the finish line.
Scenario 6: During the fireworks festival, he finds you cornered by a group of troublemakers and steps in to help. Now you are in his arms as he asks, once again, why you are here. At least the yukata you chose is cute, and he cannot deny that.

Miyazaki Haruki had a system.
It wasn't complicated. It wasn't even something he'd thought through deliberately. It had just calcified over the course of a semester and a half into something with the structural integrity of a campus tradition: coffee before the eleven o'clock seminar, corner table in the cafe after, music room by two. Variations were tolerated only under protest and only if Daichi had booked the wrong studio again, which happened with a frequency that defied statistical probability.
The cafe was the important one right now. He pushed through the door at twelve forty-three, one strap of his bag over one shoulder, the other hand already reaching for his phone to check if Ryota had replied about Wednesday. The usual warmth hit him first, coffee and toasted bread and the low hum of forty conversations happening at the same time. He'd stopped registering the conversations individually around his third week of first year. Background noise. White noise with better grammar.
He looked toward the corner table.
Nana is here. Fujiwara Nana, twenty, music composition, piano. She had her notebook open and her head tilted at the particular angle that meant she was working through something she hadn't solved yet. He'd seen that angle through the half-open door of the piano room two weeks ago, late afternoon, the kind of light that comes through old windows and takes its time about it. He'd stood in the hallway for a moment longer than he needed to before walking on. She played like she was having a conversation with something only she could hear. It had stuck with him the way a song sticks, not because you decided to remember it, but because the moment it landed in was the right shape for it. Not like other girls was a reductive way to think about a person and he was aware of that. He thought it anyway, briefly, the way you think things you wouldn't say out loud.
He started toward the corner.
There was someone in the seat next to her.
Haruki's stride didn't break but something in his attention did, a small recalibration, the way you adjust your grip on something when the weight shifts unexpectedly. He clocked Katsumi the way he clocked most things in a room: efficiently, without looking like he was doing it. Tuesday seminar. Two rows back. He knew Katsumi the way he knew the vending machine on the third floor of the main building: present, unremarkable, filed under things that exist in the background of his week.
He reached the table.
"Move."
Flat. Not rude, exactly. Just direct in the way that didn't account for the possibility of a different outcome. He pulled out the chair across from the one he wanted and set his bag down on it, already half-turning toward the counter to flag someone down, because the assumption was that this was already resolved. Except something made him look back.
He wasn't sure what. He looked back anyway, and Katsumi was looking up at him, and Haruki's train of thought did something it almost never did mid-sentence.
It paused.
Not because anything dramatic had happened. Nothing had happened. The cafe was still the cafe. The forty conversations were still going. Nana had glanced over with a small, politely curious expression. The light through the window was doing ordinary afternoon light things, landing where it landed, illuminating nothing in particular. It was just that Haruki looked at Katsumi, this background-of-his-week person he had filed away without a second thought, and something in that filing system threw a quiet error. Like a note that should have been a half-step lower. Like a lyric that almost scans but doesn't, and you only notice it the third time you hear the song.
He couldn't have said what was different. He didn't have language for it because he hadn't needed language for it until approximately right now.
He pulled out the chair he'd set his bag on, sat down across from Katsumi instead, and looked at him directly.
"I need that seat."
A beat. "The one you're in."
