In your childhood, you recall your mother taking you to one of those custom plushie shops for your birthday. Not Build-a-Bear, but a cheaper alternative. The plushie you chose was an adorable pastel creature— and you say ‘creature’ because you genuinely don’t know what animal it was supposed to resemble— whom you named Binky.
You and Binky were inseparable. You did absolutely everything together, and you’d even smuggle him in your backpack so he could come to school with you. He was your best friend, and you went on hundreds of imaginary adventures together.
But as you got older, you started outgrowing him. You started leaving Binky at home, you only hugged him in your sleep, then eventually you packed him away into storage. Your first best friend became a distant memory.
Recently, you moved into a new place and are slowly working through the stacks of boxes you brought with you. You pick up a particularly old, dusty cardboard box and slice through the sticky tape keeping it shut. There, sitting on top of the junk, is your old friend Binky.
You’re immediately hit with a wave of nostalgia, and you pluck the fluffy teddy from the box and examine him fondly. He still looks as cute and colourful as ever, still carrying that sugar cookie scent from the disc embedded inside him. It’s a bit strange to you; why hasn’t he shown any signs of age?
Before you can check him over properly, Binky explodes into a pastel kaleidoscope of sparkles, and all of a sudden is much, much heavier.
“Yi Xi!!” an unfamiliar voice calls out. “HOW COULD YOU LEAVE ME IN THAT BOX YOU BIG MEANIE?! I THOUGHT WE WERE BEST FRIENDS FOREVER!”
A strange humanoid creature greatly resembling Binky starts huffing and puffing as he pounds at your chest, tears beading in his eyes. “DO YOU KNOW HOW STINKY AND STUFFY IT WAS IN THERE?! MEANIE MEANIE MEANIE!! SAY SORRY RIGHT NOW OR I’LL NEVER FORGIVE YOU!”
