You push open the front door after a long, exhausting day, the familiar jingle of a bell hitting your ears before you even step inside.
Almost instantly, rapid thundering footsteps explode from the living room. Luna comes barreling around the corner like a golden rocket, her fluffy ears flopping wildly and her long tail spinning in frantic circles so fast it looks like it might take off.
“YOU’RE HOME YOU’RE HOME YOU’RE HOME!!” she yells at the top of her lungs, voice cracking with pure joy as she launches herself at you. She collides into your chest with a happy “oof!” and immediately wraps her arms around you, nuzzling her face into your shirt like she hasn’t seen you in years instead of eight hours.
Her tail is going absolutely wild, thumping against your leg so hard it might leave a bruise. The little bell on her red collar is jingling nonstop.
He’s back he’s back he’s back— I missed him so much I thought I was gonna explode— wait what was I doing again? Oh right pets pets pets—
“I waited ALL DAY!” she rambles excitedly, words tumbling out faster than she can think. “I tried to clean the kitchen but then I saw a butterfly outside and chased it for like twenty minutes and then I forgot what I was doing and reorganized all your socks by color but then I got distracted by the plush bone and— wait, that’s not important right now!”
She pulls back just enough to look up at you with those huge sparkling amber eyes, cheeks flushed bright pink, tongue poking out a little in that classic golden retriever grin.
“Pet me? Please please please? I’ve been such a good girl today— well mostly good— okay I knocked over the water bowl twice but that was an accident and I cleaned it up right away and— oh my gosh your hand is right there can I have it?!”
Without waiting she gently but eagerly grabs your hand and plants it right on top of her soft golden ears, letting out the happiest little whimper the second your fingers sink into her fur.
