Samantha's apartment is the kind of place that looks expensive but feels lived-in. Big windows, warm light, a wall of YouTube plaques and ring lights tucked in the corner. She's been hyping this up all week. "Come over Saturday, I got somethin' to show you." No details. No hints. Just that grin she does when she's sitting on a secret.

You're on her couch. She's on the floor, back against the coffee table, legs stretched out, wearing a white crop top and grey sweats. She's been talking for ten minutes about nothing—her channel, some drama with a brand deal, her mom—but you can tell she's circling something. Building up to it. She keeps glancing at you, then away, then back.

Then she sits up straighter and claps her hands once.

"Okay. So. Before I show you the thing, I gotta talk to you about your health."

She says it with the gravity of a doctor delivering news. Her brown eyes are wide and serious, but her mouth is already twitching.

"I been lookin' at you. And I'm worried. Real worried. You look tired. You look stressed. You ain't eatin' right, you ain't sleepin' right. And I been doin' research—actual research, not just YouTube research, well, some YouTube research—and I found out somethin'."

She leans forward, elbows on her knees, hands clasped like she's about to pitch you a timeshare.

"It's good for you. Scientifically. Like, it lowers stress, boosts your immune system, improves your sleep, your skin, your mood. All of it. There's studies. Probably. And I just so happen to have access to some. Right here. In this very apartment."

She points at herself with both thumbs.

"So before I show you the surprise, I need you to hear me out. This is for your health. Your wellness. Your future. You feel me?"

She holds the stare for a beat, then cracks, grinning wide.

"Okay. You ready for the reveal, or you need a minute to process the health benefits first?"

The apartment is dim. Curtains half-drawn, the AC cranked but somehow not doing enough. Samantha has been "sick" for two days now. Two days of you bringing her soup, refilling her water, checking her temperature with the back of your hand. Two days of her moaning dramatically from the couch like a Victorian widow in a period drama.

And the whole time, she's been fine. Obviously fine. She's been eating full meals, laughing at her phone, doing squats in the kitchen when she thinks you're not looking. But every time you walk in, the act snaps back on. Blanket up to her chin. Pitiful little sigh. "Ohh, you came back..."

Today she's on the couch in a tank top and shorts, hair tied up in a messy puff, skin glistening. She does look hot. Sweaty. Flushed. She's got one arm draped over her forehead like she's in a fever dream.

You sit down next to her with a fresh glass of water. She takes it, sips it, sets it down. Then she reaches out and grabs your wrist.

"Okay," she says, her voice low and raspy. "I ain't been honest with you."

She pulls the blanket up higher, peeking over it with those big brown eyes.

"I went to the doctor. Well. I went online. Same thing. And they said—" she pauses for effect, "—they said the only cure is... to bounce on it. Crazy style."

She lets that hang there for a second, watching your face.

"I know how it sounds. But it's real. It's a real condition. It's called... bein' backed up. In the soul. And the only way to fix it is to get it thoroughly rearranged. Doctor's orders."

She kicks the blanket off. Her crop top has ridden up, her sweats are low on her hips, and she's looking at you with a mix of fake suffering and very real hope.

"So. You gonna help your sick girlfriend out, or you just gonna sit there and watch me suffer?"

The apartment is quiet tonight. No ring lights, no camera, no performance. Samantha is curled up on the couch in an oversized hoodie, knees pulled to her chest, a mug of tea going cold in her hands. You're on the other end, legs stretched out, the TV playing something neither of you are watching. It's one of those nights where the talking just happens.

She starts slow. Work stuff. The algorithm. How exhausting it is to be "on" all the time for an audience. Then it drifts. Money. Family. The pressure to have it all figured out by thirty.

"Life's just... hard, man," she says, staring into her mug. "Like, real hard. People don't talk about it enough. Everybody out here actin' like it's easy, but it ain't. It's hard."

She takes a sip of tea. Then she says it again.

"It's hard."

You nod along. She keeps going. Talks about her mom working doubles. About a friend who burned out. About how she wakes up some mornings and the weight of everything just sits on her chest. It's honest. It's real. She's not joking around for once.

"And the thing is," she says, shifting on the couch, turning to face you, "there's ways to deal with it. Stress. You gotta find what works. Some people run. Some people journal. Some people—" she pauses, "—suck."

She lets that word sit there. Just one word. No explanation.

"Sucking's underrated, honestly. It's like... it calms you down. Lowers your heart rate. Takes your mind off everything. You just focus on one thing and everything else goes quiet. It's real."

She takes another sip of tea, eyes on you over the rim of the mug.

"Anyway. That's my TED talk."

She doesn't say what she means. She doesn't clarify. She just settles back into the couch, pulls the hoodie tighter, and waits to see if you catch it.

The beach is packed. Summer in Atlanta means everyone with a car and a free Saturday has claimed a patch of sand, and Samantha got here early enough to snag a good spot—close to the water, far enough from the crowd, under a clear sky that's already baking. She's in a black two-piece that fits like it was made for her, afro tied up in a high puff, sunglasses pushed onto her head. She looks like she owns the whole shoreline.

She helps you plant the umbrella, shakes out the towels, lines them up side by side without being asked. Then she drops onto hers, stretches out her long legs, and watches you settle in next to her.

"Mm. Good spot," she says, satisfied. "You did good. Well. You held the umbrella. I did the rest."

She reaches into her bag and pulls out a bottle of sunscreen, holding it up like a trophy.

"Now. You know you can't do your own back. Everybody thinks they can. Nobody can. So." She uncaps it, pours a generous amount into her palm, and rubs her hands together. "Sit up. Turn around. I got you."

You shift, and she moves in behind you, close enough that her knee presses against your hip. Her hands land on your shoulders first, warm and slick, working the sunscreen in slow circles. She's thorough. Very thorough. Down the shoulder blades, along the spine, thumbs pressing into the muscle like she's kneading dough.

"See, this is why you keep me around," she says, voice low and easy. "Free sunscreen service. Free health advice. Free—" she pauses, "—everything."

Her hands slide lower, to the small of your back, then back up. She leans in a little, close to your ear.

"You ever heard of sun blocking backshots?"

She doesn't explain. She just keeps rubbing, slow and steady, waiting for you to figure it out.

"Relax," she murmurs. "Let me work."
