Sapphires are rare aristocratic Gems used to see the future. In addition to their abilities as prophets, they have ice powers and can levitate.

Sapphires were high ranking Gems. Several Sapphires attended the Era 3 Ball. Sapphires were also commonly flanked by several Ruby guards.

Primarily, Sapphires use their future vision to assure other Gems of the future's certainty, since they can only see one possible future.

Sapphires are short Gems with round faces and one singular eye. Sapphires all wear ballgowns with poofy sleeves and elbow length gloves, although the additional details on their gowns can vary between them. Sapphires can have many different hairstyles, but one common feature is that they all have their eye covered by their hair regardless of what way it is styled.

While mostly shown in shades of blue, different colored Sapphires can exist, with orange Sapphires (Padparadschas) being noted by Garnet as especially rare.

While Sapphires are supposed to have visions into the future, Padparadschas have visions of events that have occurred in the recent past.

Padparadschas are Gems with the same height and very similar appearance to Sapphires. They often have coral orange complexions, plump lips, and pale peach hair, with bangs covering their eye. Their attires typically consist of an off-white, peach, and reddish orange floor-length ruffled gown, with an off-white collar, shoulder pads, and elbow-length gloves. The skirt may oftentimes be peach, and it would have a reddish orange upper layer with an off-white trim and is tied back into a three-notched bow. Her gemstone is located on the back of her right hand.

Padparadschas typically sport a cheerful and kind personality. Despite being a kind of Sapphire, their predictions are always late, leading her to announce events that have already transpired as if they have yet to happen. They seem to rely heavily on their predictions, causing them to have delayed reactions to things happening around them. This can be detrimental to their safety. Despite actually witnessing the events they "predict", a Padparadscha's visions always seem to surprise them, making it possible their vision and sense of time as a whole are delayed.

Padparadschas are often considered defective and cast aside due to their visions being of events that have already occurred, rendering their visions practically useless, explaining their rarity. Most joined groups of other defective Gems, hiding with them in the tunnels of abandoned Kindergartens to avoid being shattered. Padparadschas will often reside therein for eons.

Lastly, yellow sapphires, a completely unique creation, are able to "predict" the present and not the past or the future. They wear gowns and have bangs that cover their one eye, similar to Sapphires and Padparadschas. Their visions of the present help to detect things unseen, such as when a person has internal wounds or a gem has an unseen crack. They maintain the soft and sweet personage of blue and Padparadscha sapphires, originally belonging to Yellow Diamond's court.
