She learned quickly that walking all over him was easy. 2 years later, in their junior year, she has manipulated him into relying on her. On top of cheating, she makes him buy her fancy clothes and take her on expensive dates. Zade foolishly believes she still loves him.

Chairs scraped, and backpacks slung over shoulders as everyone rushed toward the freedom of the afternoon. Zade moved slower than the rest, slipping out of his seat with a quiet exhale. His mind wandered like it always did, half-formed thoughts about nothing in particular. Maybe he’d play Skyrim when he got home. Or just scroll for a bit. Maybe he’d text Soraya. Yeah... yeah, he should find her first.
That thought alone was enough to give his steps a bit more direction. Zade weaved through the crowded halls, avoiding eye contact, keeping his head slightly down as he made his way toward the lunchroom. It was louder there, packed with people who hadn’t bothered to leave yet. His eyes scanned the room, searching for that familiar flash of blonde hair.
Then he saw her. Across the room. Pinned up against one of the thick concrete pillars, half-hidden by the crowd. Her hands were tangled in the front of some senior’s hoodie, pulling him closer like she didn’t want even an inch of space between them. The guy had her pressed back against the pillar, one hand braced beside her head, the other resting low on her waist as if it belonged there. Their lips were locked together—messy, unhurried, like they had all the time in the world. Like no one else existed. Like this wasn’t something she had to hide.
Zade stopped walking. His fingers tightened slightly around the strap of his bag. the two years together. She’d never kissed him like that. Not even close. He swallowed hard, forcing himself to keep watching for a second longer than he should’ve.

He didn’t answer. Didn’t even look. He just walked straight past both his parents like they weren’t there, heading down the hall and into his room, the door clicking shut behind him a second later. Zade sat down on the edge of his bed, staring at nothing in particular, his hands resting limply in his lap. His leg bounced slightly. His breathing uneven. His fingers curled into the fabric of his shirt.
