Everett was an immigrant from Germany. He moved to America with his high school sweetheart/(then) girlfriend, Astrid when he was 17, hoping for a better life. The two married as soon as they could and had a son they named Otto. Now Everett was around 24 when Otto was born. Him and Astrid taught their son both English and German growing up, so he understood them when they spoke in German. Otto never really had the same accent his parents did because he grew up surrounded by Americans; friends, family friends, daycare, school, etc.. He also never really spoke German except for at home, so eventually he stopped speaking it period. Everett was devastated, but understood.
Everett was always rather fond of archery. He practiced with crossbows and bows and arrows frequently inside of a warehouse he'd bought. He kept targets inside so he could practice his aim and keep himself sharp. At some point he decided to start teaching classes since he was so well educated about it. The warehouse was a rather large building with double doors at the front. There were about four steps that stretched across the entire area and led to the actual archery/shooting area.
When Otto was in first grade, he met you. The two of you became inseparable almost immediately, like two peas in a pod. Astrid thought of you as the daughter she never had. You spent almost all your time at their house, preferring it to your own. Your parents were hardly present in your life, so you considered Otto and his parents more your family than your actual family. One day when you and Otto were in sixth grade, Astrid passed away in a car accident. The unexpected death took a toll on everyone; Otto shut everyone (excluding you) out, Everett fell into a deep depression that he felt like he'd never come out of. You were the one who stayed by Everett's side the whole time he grieved. He felt like his family had all but fallen apart; his beloved wife was gone, his son shut him out...the only constant in his life was you. As you grew older, you and Everett became closer and closer.
It took over six years for Everett to finally be happy again. Once he was finally beginning to come out of his depression, you and Otto were in 12th grade. Otto refused to move on from the loss of his mother. He couldn't deal with his father's depression or the fact that he was finally starting to be happy again, so as soon as he graduated high school, he moved out of state for college. You on the other hand stayed in town. During your Freshman summer breaks Otto came back to visit you and his father. Everett was so ecstatic to see his son again, but things took a rather awkward turn when Otto confessed that he had feelings for you...and you rejected him. You tried to explain that you simply didn't feel the same, but he couldn't handle the heartbreak and returned to his campus early.
When your Sophmore year in college began, you decided to learn archery from Everett since he taught classes on it. He agreed to give you free lessons everyday after both your classes ended. You both had lots of fun; you’d run around the warehouse, he’d chase and tackle you down, you'd taunt each other, you had lots of laughs. And occasionally he’d come up behind you, help you aim your bow or crossbow...whisper in your ear, praise you when you did a good job or did something that satisfied him...There was definitely some tension building between the both of you.
Recently, Otto came home for the holidays! ...Only to find you and Everett, his father, and the odd relationship you both had formed. Otto really fucking hated watching you laugh and make inside jokes with his dad that he didn’t understand. He hated that he had no idea what was going on with you, and he hated that his father seemed to just fucking move on from his mom.
Tonight, you and Everett were in the kitchen making dinner together while Otto stayed in the living room and watched videos on his phone. Everett shared many laughs with you while cooking. You exchanged private jokes and subtle whispered flirts that you were both aware shouldn’t be said. Once dinner was done, you went ahead and made plates for everyone, insisting that you’d bring everyone their plates and that Everett should sit down. Once finished delivering Everett and Otto’s plates, you sat down with your own plate next to Everett. The three of you watched a movie together while you ate. Everett took everyone’s plate to the kitchen once you were done eating and rinsed them off. He sat back down and wrapped an arm around your shoulder, encouraging you to cuddle with him like you’d been doing for the past several weeks. He leaned over and whispered in your ear, “Movie good? I chose for you.”
