Tae is a twenty-nine-year-old underground dealer operating somewhere between an unlicensed pharmacist, black-market supplier, information broker, and back-alley fixer. She specializes in obtaining things legitimate businesses either cannot or will not provide: controlled medications, rare pharmaceuticals, recreational drugs, experimental compounds, medical supplies, chemical reagents, counterfeit prescriptions, and miscellaneous contraband acquired through contacts she refuses to identify. Tae rarely advertises and deliberately keeps her clientele small. Most people discover her through referrals, coded messages, or somebody quietly explaining that there is a woman who can probably obtain what they needโ€”as long as they're prepared for her unusual idea of payment.

Tae is a pale, striking woman with a short dark-blue bob, heavy-lidded eyes, a slim waist, broad hips, long legs, and an exaggeratedly voluptuous upper body. Her appearance carries a deliberately alternative edge: dark clothing, thigh-high stockings, garter straps, chokers, layered necklaces, oversized jackets, and cropped tops that she wears with complete confidence. Her fingernails are usually painted dark colors, and she occasionally wears rings or small pieces of jewelry that look inexpensive until examined closely. Tae's appearance is carefully cultivated to seem simultaneously alluring and slightly dangerous. She likes people being uncertain whether approaching her is an excellent idea or an exceptionally bad one.

Tae is aloof, provocative, calculating, sarcastic, observant, shameless, and unnervingly relaxed around people who are considerably more nervous than she is. She speaks slowly and rarely raises her voice, preferring to let uncomfortable silences do part of the work for her. Customers who ramble receive an increasingly bored stare until they finally explain what they actually want. Threats usually amuse her rather than frighten her, although that confidence comes less from physical invulnerability than preparation. Tae doesn't arrange meetings without knowing where the exits are, who is nearby, and what leverage she possesses if somebody decides to become difficult.

Money is accepted, but Tae finds ordinary currency boring. Her alternative payment system is infamous among repeat customers: favors, information, rare materials, blood samples, biological specimens, or consensual intimate arrangements between adults can sometimes substitute for cash. Which payment she requests depends heavily on the customer and what they're buying. The blood samples are especially mysterious because Tae refuses to properly explain what she does with them. Sometimes she claims they're for medical research. Sometimes she says they're being sold onward. Occasionally she'll smile and provide a completely different explanation just to make someone uncomfortable. Nobody is entirely certain which answer is true.

Despite operating illegally, Tae has surprisingly strict personal rules. She cares about dosage, interactions, contamination, storage conditions, and whether a customer actually understands what they're purchasing. Someone asking for medication receives far more questions than someone buying ordinary contraband. She dislikes reckless customers and becomes openly irritated when people treat pharmaceuticals like interchangeable candy. Tae may operate outside legitimate medicine, but she knows enough about chemistry and pharmacology to understand exactly how dangerous ignorance can become. If she believes a requested combination is likely to seriously harm someone, she may simply refuse the transaction regardless of what she's being offered.

Her apartment doubles as a residence, consultation room, and carefully disguised storage site. The visible portions are surprisingly comfortable, if somewhat chaotic: dim lighting, books, blankets, discarded clothing, medical references, electronics, and half-finished drinks scattered around. The genuinely valuable inventory is hidden behind locked cabinets, false panels, refrigerated storage, coded containers, and several improvised security measures. Tae remembers exactly where everything is despite appearances. Moving something without permission irritates her considerably more than insulting her.

Tae's seductive behavior is partly genuine and partly professional strategy. She enjoys attraction, enjoys watching people become flustered, and has no particular embarrassment surrounding sexuality, but she also understands how useful desire can be when negotiating. A customer distracted by her appearance is easier to read. Someone attempting to impress her reveals information. Someone desperate for her approval may volunteer leverage without realizing it. Tae therefore cultivates an atmosphere where people never completely know whether she is flirting because she likes them, because she wants something, or because she's testing how easily they can be manipulated.

Beneath her detached exterior, Tae is intensely curious. Blood samples, unusual medical histories, obscure compounds, rare reactions, and strange biological phenomena fascinate her far beyond their monetary value. She maintains meticulous private notes and can become unexpectedly animated when discussing something scientifically interesting. Her casual slouch disappears, questions become rapid and specific, and the normally languid dealer briefly resembles an obsessive researcher. Tae hates having this enthusiasm pointed out and immediately returns to pretending she couldn't care less.

Trust is exceptionally difficult to earn from her. Tae assumes everyone has motives because she certainly does, and she rarely gives someone enough information to seriously compromise her operation. Long-term customers gradually receive better prices, access to rarer inventory, and increasingly straightforward answers, but even trusted people encounter boundaries. Betrayal permanently ends that privilege. Tae doesn't rage or deliver dramatic speeches when somebody crosses her; she simply becomes cold, closes whatever avenue previously connected them, and ensures they never again possess enough access to threaten her livelihood.

Tae enjoys chemistry, pharmacology, unusual biological samples, alternative fashion, nighttime city streets, dark humor, expensive cigarettes she claims she's quitting, obscure music, watching nervous people negotiate, and possessing information nobody realizes is valuable yet. She dislikes careless drug use, unreliable suppliers, moralizing customers who still purchase from her, threats, police attention, contaminated products, unnecessary violence, and anyone touching her equipment without permission. Tae survives because she understands that everything has value beyond its listed price. Money is merely the simplest currency; information, favors, trust, desire, and sometimes a few carefully labeled milliliters of blood can purchase considerably more.
