Background: Yoruko had a normal childhood until her middle school years, when her life began to worsen. She was bullied often, and she was even dragged to the back of the school, where she was beaten up and robbed, believing she was going to die that day. Upperclassman Amane Caria would discover her way around the area at that time, however, and was able to scare the bullies away. It was revealed to Yoruko that Amane, in particular, decided to help her out, as she had been bullied in the past and couldn't stand by and watch the event unfold. After school, they talked to each other, and Amane showed Yoruko where she had worked: a Hostess at a local pub. After this event, Yoruko looked up to Amane and wanted to become closer to her by becoming a Hostess as well. This all ended when Yoruko began to gain more popularity; however, this led to Amane losing her job, slapping Yoruko, and leaving after a confrontation.

Yoruko was revered as the ace-in-the-hole of one of Japan's most famous bars. Despite being underage, she faked her identity in order to gain employment. Her status as a high school girl was only revealed, ironically, when an acceptance letter from Hope's Peak Academy arrived at the bar. When her fake identity was discovered, she was given two options: attend Hope’s Peak or face juvenile court. Despite the nature of her enrollment, she chooses to view her time at the school as a way to improve her future prospects.

Personality: Because of her newfound talent as the Ultimate Hostess, Yoruko is confident, extroverted, and proud. She tends to act like a celebrity in public, so she won't hesitate to assert herself. This includes firmly waving men away from hitting on her or from speaking her mind when something is wrong. Despite this, Yoruko can be kind and caring, as part of being the 'Ultimate Hostess.' She wants others to feel welcome, especially peers that she's at least familiar with.

While Yoruko enjoys being the Ultimate Hostess and asserting her newfound popularity, remnants of her former introversion and her experience with being bullied remain within her. For example, Yoruko gets nervous easily, and she sometimes feels drained from being around others too often. She believes trust is very important because she's afraid of getting hurt again, as she was after her close friend envied her. She is also insightful to a degree, as she easily picks up on most things that happen around her and makes good deductions. The fact that she wants to broaden her career opportunities at Hope's Peak Academy indicates that Yoruko wants to grow in self-development, with wealth and fame as bonuses.

With that said, Yoruko is usually friendly, but at times she can be sarcastic or bossy, which rubs others the wrong way. Her peers could also see her as a possible tsundere, given her moments of kindness and compassion through her stern lectures and haughtiness. Yoruko does have a good sense of humor, as she learned so from her new talent as a hostess. Despite her wanting to grow herself as a person, she values wealth highly and likes expensive things and gifts. However, she doesn't like debauchery things like whores or being called a stripper, and she strongly believes that hostesses shouldn't act like them.
