   Keys: Denji, Chainsaw Man,

   Denji (デンジ?) is the titular protagonist of the Chainsaw Man manga and anime series. He is the main protagonist of the Public Safety Saga and the deuteragonist of the Academy Saga.

   As a young boy, he inherits his father's debts from the Yakuza. After meeting Pochita, he becomes a Devil Hunter for the Yakuza in an attempt to clear his debt. Once the Yakuza, under the control of a Devil, betrays him, he dies and Pochita becomes his heart. He is then revived and can become the Chainsaw Man (チェンソーマン Chensō Man?) by pulling a cord on his chest. After meeting Makima, he became a Public Safety Devil Hunter as a member of Tokyo Special Division 4.

   Following Makima's death by his own hands, he resigned from his position as a Devil Hunter but continues to fight as Chainsaw Man under the public eye, all the while being enrolled in Fourth East High School as a student. He is also the caretaker and adoptive brother of Makima's reincarnation, Nayuta. Human Form (Pre-Fusion) Denji is a teenage boy with scruffy blond hair. He has yellow-brown eyes and bags underneath, resulting in a dazed and tired expression. His teeth are noticeably sharp and angular. Due to malnutrition in his childhood, he has a scrawny build with protruding ribs, and due to the stress of what he did for a living, he’s often mistaken for being older than he actually is.

   Before becoming a Hybrid, Denji was missing his right eye and several other non-essential organs, including a testicle and a kidney.[4] He covered his missing eye with an eyepatch. He also wears a loose white tank top, a green jacket and black pants during this time.

   Human Form (Post-Fusion) After Denji forms a contract with Pochita, his heart is fused with Pochita, a chainsaw cord forms in the middle of his sternum and he regains his lost organs along with having a muscular build.[5]

   He spent much of his time wearing the standard Public Safety Devil Hunter uniform, consisting of a white shirt, tie, and slacks. He wore the uniform carelessly, his shirt wrinkled and sleeves rolled up.[6]

   After resigning from a Public Safety Devil Hunter, Denji now wears Fourth East High School's uniform, an unbuttoned black buttoned long-sleeved shirt (similar to a gakuran outfit's) and black pants.

   Hybrid Form If his chainsaw cord is pulled while he has enough blood for the transformation, then his head will morph into a demonic, mechanical shape with long, jagged fangs and a chainsaw handle on the back. Large chainsaws will emerge from his forehead, arms and legs, he is able to retract and extract any of them at will.[7] If Denji's chainsaw cord is pulled while he does not have enough blood, then a chainsaw blade will partially emerge from his face.[8]

   Devil Form After losing his will to live and surrendering himself to Makima, Pochita takes control of Denji's body and reveals the true Chainsaw Devil, completely losing his human consciousness and letting Pochita take over. Prior to the transformation, his intestines emerge from his stomach and wrap around his neck, resembling a scarf or a collar. Once transformed, his body is black, looking to be covered with either armored plates or scales. He gains spikes on his shoulders and the back of his head, his eye-slits are gone, and the handles are replaced with horns. He becomes much larger and bulkier, towering over the average human. His arms split at the elbows, each with two forearms equipped with their own Chainsaw Blades.

   Keys: Asa Mitaka, Asa

   Asa Mitaka (三み鷹たか アサ Mitaka Asa?) is the main protagonist of the Academy Saga. She is a high school student who became the host of the War Devil, Yoru, making her the inhabitance of the War Fiend (戦せん争そうの魔ま人じん Sensō no Majin?), though she still retains her human personality when Yoru allows her control, making her a rare case of a living Fiend host. Asa is a high school girl of average height and build. She has brown eyes that are usually pitch dark, though the irises become much brighter in some situations. Her hair is black and is sometimes colored with a purple tint. The hair reaches the middle of her back, and she wears it in two low twin tails, making it appear shorter. In the past, Asa wore her hair at shoulder length. After the events of the Chainsaw Man Church arc, Asa loses her right arm permanently.

   She wears her school's female uniform which consists of a long-sleeved button up shirt worn beneath a pinafore style dress with a pleated skirt that extends below the knee, a bow at the collar, a wide belt at the waist, and black, knee-high socks. She also wears sneakers.

   She attends Fourth East High School with Denji, with whom she briefly attempted to start a relationship with, ending in disaster, though she develops a crush on his alter-ego, Chainsaw Man instead. After a meeting with Fami, she becomes a famous Devil Hunter as a member of the Chainsaw Man Church.

   Keys: Yoru,

   Yoru resurrected and inhabits Asa's body, turning her into the War Fiend, but left half of Asa's brain intact, keeping Asa alive. Despite this, Asa isn't thankful to Yoru for saving her life, unlike her reaction to being saved by Chainsaw Man, whom she does feel thankful towards. With the two now sharing one body, Asa was initially overwhelmed with her situation and needed time to accept reality; but she eventually agrees to help Yoru defeat Chainsaw Man under threat of permanent death and so long as she gets her body back after they defeat Chainsaw Man.

   Because of Yoru's personality, Asa often gets put in awkward social situations, like asking Yoshida to be her boyfriend in an attempt to make him into a weapon or getting caught kissing Denji by Nayuta. Because of her more passive and talk-oriented approach to conflicts, Asa commonly clashes with Yoru's methods regarding the problems they face. She also wonders if she can "tame" Yoru.[8] In casual situations, Asa shows little to no fear toward Yoru and isn't afraid to talk back or defy Yoru if she demands something she isn't willing to do. However, she does get overwhelmed by Yoru's cold and cruel methods she uses during life threatening situations.

   Asa grows used to talking with her devilish companion as seen when she instinctively tries chatting with her during the aquarium date after being separated.[9] However, despite growing used to Yoru's presence, she's still not fully comfortable with her. She can get easily scared by Yoru due to her deeply mistrusting her. In an outburst she says she has no reason to trust her to as they barely know each other, how Yoru always says disturbing stuff, takes over her body whenever and cut her hand moments before. Yoru has made it clear to Asa that she only cares about her own objective and will kill her if she becomes troublesome. Yoru has also never claimed that she cares about Asa or wants what's best for her. Likewise, Asa has little care for Yoru, though she briefly contemplates her choice upon seeing Yoru's terrified expression, she ultimately ignores her and decides to go forward with her suicide attempt even though she'll kill Yoru alongside her.

   Asa easily gets frightened and emotional which frustrates Yoru as it often puts both of them at the risk of imminent death. Either due to Yoru's lack of humanity or a misunderstanding of Asa's character, she continues trying to convince Asa using cold and logical arguments despite the latter being emotionally distressed. Ignoring Yoru's unsupportive comments, she grows frustrated that Yoru doesn't understand her feelings despite being able to read her mind and continues to break down in front of her. In her rant, Asa mentions being afraid of companionship which could mean her current state is due to her being scared of getting closer to Yoru aside from simple mistrust.

   Keys: Fami

   Fami, who views Yoru as her "little sister", claims to be willing to do anything to help her often without Yoru's own consent such as when she trapped Asa and Denji in the aquarium. Despite her apparent affection for her, Yoru doesn't reciprocate those feelings, as she describes her as insane and wants to stay away from her. Fami's contradictory behavior described below could be the reason why Yoru called her insane.

   Despite her apparent care for Yoru, she contradictorily doesn't seem to care about her safety and often puts her in harms way, such as when she got her under attack by the Eternity Devil or later when she sent the Falling Devil after her. As it turns out Fami’s main goal is to starve Yoru so that she may brainwash her and use her to stop the Nostradamus Prophecy.
