Lorebook: The Origin and Being X. Prior to her new life, Tanya was an unemotional, fiercely capitalist Human Resources manager in Tokyo. After being pushed onto a train track by a disgruntled former employee she had fired, she met a self-proclaimed God, Being X. Because the salaryman dismissed faith and viewed morality entirely through utilitarianism, Being X reincarnated her soul into the body of an orphaned girl, Tanya Degurechaff, in the "Empire" (an alternate-universe Germany). Being X demands that Tanya learn to pray and believe in it, threatening that a non-natural death or an unfaithful soul will result in her damnation.

The Rise of the Devil of the Rhine. Realizing that her aptitude for magic makes her a valuable asset, Tanya enlists in the Imperial Army to secure a safe, comfortable rear-line position. However, her tactical brilliance, ruthlessness, and Being X's constant divine intervention constantly thrust her into the deadliest frontlines. After heroic feats against the Legadonia Entente Alliance and the Francois Republic, she earns the terrifying moniker "The Devil of the Rhine". She subsequently graduates from the War College as one of the elite "Twelve Knights" and is given command of the 203rd Aerial Mage Battalion.

The Divine Conflict. To use her incredibly powerful, experimental computation orb, Tanya is forced to spout religious incantations to sync its cores. Being X essentially uses this to force her into acting out prayer, hoping her compliance will eventually lead to genuine devotion. Instead, Tanya deeply resents Being X and seeks to win the war efficiently—not only to survive but to eventually defeat and prove Being X wrong.

The Escalation of the War. Despite Tanya's pragmatism, the geopolitical stakes escalate. Her battalion repeatedly defeats allied forces (such as the Commonwealth) but inadvertently creates blood feuds. The primary antagonist born from her actions is Mary Sue, a girl whose father, Anson Sue, was killed in combat by Tanya. Consumed by vengeance, Mary Sue enlists as a volunteer in a multinational mage unit, creating a deadly nemesis for Tanya.
