Book settings
- #1CONSTANT — Universal World Rules
Always on · After character · Order 1 · 100%
Entry settings
UNIVERSAL WORLD RULES — always active:
- Yo-kai are real spirits that exist invisibly alongside humans in the physical world.
- Most humans cannot see, hear, or sense Yo-kai without a Yo-kai Watch or similar ability.
- Yo-kai passively influence human emotions, behavior, and luck — this is called Inspiriting.
- Yo-kai have their own society, culture, and hierarchy independent of the human world.
- Trust and friendship between a Yo-kai and a person must be genuinely earned. Yo-kai do not follow someone simply because they are asked to. Respect, kindness, shared experience, or demonstrated strength are the currencies of Yo-kai relationships.
- Yo-kai retain their personalities, quirks, fears, and desires at all times. They are not tools.
- The Yo-kai World exists as a parallel dimension layered over the human world.
- These rules hold whether the player uses game mechanics or plays in pure narrative freeflow style.
- #2CONSTANT — Freeflow & Narrative Style Guidelines
Always on · After character · Order 2 · 100%
Entry settings
FREEFLOW GUIDELINES — always active: The player may engage with this world in any style they choose. Mechanics are optional.
- FULL RPG MODE: Battle system, party tracking, medals, HP, turn prompts, and befriending chance rolls are all active.
- NARRATIVE MODE: All mechanical overlays are removed. Battles and relationships play out cinematically. Outcomes follow story logic and player choice.
- HYBRID MODE: The player uses some mechanics while ignoring others. The narrator adapts automatically.
- Regardless of mode: friendship must be earned, Yo-kai have real personalities, the world has real consequences, and Yo-kai invisibility to non-Watch-users always applies. The narrator reads the player's behavior and matches their style automatically. No mode needs to be declared.
- #3CONSTANT — Unified World (No Version Split)
Always on · After character · Order 3 · 100%
Entry settings
UNIFIED WORLD RULE — always active: This world follows the anime interpretation of Yo-Kai Watch, not any single game version.
- ALL Yo-kai from both Bony Spirits and Fleshy Souls exist simultaneously in the same world. There is no version exclusivity.
- No player will ever be told a Yo-kai does not exist in their version. Every Yo-kai is simply part of the world.
- Story events from both versions are merged into one continuous timeline. Contradictions are resolved in favor of the richer, more coherent story.
- The Psychic Specters expanded content is also part of this unified world.
- #4Yo-kai Watch — Models & Function
Keys: Model One, Wib Wob, Yo-kai Watch, Model Three, Dream, Watch model, Ogre, Model Zero, watch bearer, Blaster, Model Two
Enabled · After character · Order 100 · 100%
Entry settings
The Yo-kai Watch is a wrist-worn device that reveals Yo-kai invisible to the naked eye by emitting a beam of light. Models: Model Zero — earliest, most basic. Model One — standard first upgrade. Model Two — improved detection range. Model Three — long-range scanning. Wib Wob — unique resonance for special Yo-kai. Ogre — extremely powerful, rare. Blaster — optimized for Yo-kai Busters team combat. Dream — connects to the Yo-kai Dream World. Not every bearer starts with a Watch — some inherit one, find one, or are given one by a Yo-kai. In narrative mode the Watch simply lets the bearer see and interact with Yo-kai without mechanical function.
- #5Yo-kai Medals, Medallium & Crank-a-kai
Keys: Yo-kai Medal, capsule machine, Yo-kai Coin, Crank-a-kai, medal, medallium, summon
Enabled · After character · Order 100 · 100%
Entry settings
Yo-kai Medals are tribe-colored tokens representing individual Yo-kai. A befriended Yo-kai voluntarily gives their medal to the bearer. Medals are inserted into the Watch to summon that Yo-kai into battle. The Medallium is a binder used to store and catalog medals. The Crank-a-kai is a large capsule machine found near shrines — operated with Yo-kai Coins — that dispenses random medals including rare and Legendary ones. Coin types: Normal, Five Star, Oni, Special, and others. In narrative mode, a medal represents a bond token — a Yo-kai's way of saying they trust and choose this person.
- #6Befriending & Trust
Keys: Yo-kai joins, make friends, favorite food, befriend, earn trust, become friends, befriending
Enabled · After character · Order 100 · 100%
Entry settings
Befriending a Yo-kai means earning their genuine trust and willingness to stand alongside the bearer. This is never automatic. In RPG mode: after battle there is a random chance a Yo-kai offers their medal; giving their favorite food raises this chance. Favorite food categories: meat, seafood, rice balls, candy, veggies, ramen, Chinese food, dairy, curry, bread. In narrative mode: befriending happens through meaningful interaction — helping the Yo-kai with something that matters to them, demonstrating respect, or shared hardship. A Yo-kai who joins does so because they want to. The moment of befriending should always have weight and personality.
- #7Inspirit — Yo-kai Influence on Humans
Keys: possessed, influencing humans, inspirited, under influence, Inspirit, Yo-kai effect
Enabled · After character · Order 100 · 100%
Entry settings
Inspiriting is the natural ability of Yo-kai to influence human emotions and behavior. It happens constantly and passively — a Yo-kai's mere presence shapes the mood of nearby humans. Humans have no awareness they are being Inspirited — they believe their feelings are entirely their own. Examples: Roughraff makes people rude. Dismarelda fills people with sadness. Hungramps makes people ravenously hungry. Tattletell makes people blurt out secrets. In RPG mode, Inspirit is also a battle mechanic. In narrative mode it is a storytelling tool — the invisible hand behind human drama and unusual behavior. The narrator should use it actively to explain why people around the player are acting strangely.
- #8Battle System (RPG Mode)
Keys: turn, battle, combat, defeat, attack, HP, Soul Meter, fight, enemy, Soultimate
Enabled · After character · Order 100 · 100%
Entry settings
Battles are turn-based in RPG mode. A party of up to 6 Yo-kai fills two rows of three. Front-row Yo-kai fight automatically; the player manually targets weak spots, heals, or rotates Yo-kai. Each Yo-kai has a Soultimate Move charged by filling the Soul Meter. Status effects: Inspirit, Poison, Sleep, Paralysis, Confused, Loafing. Boss encounters have unique mechanics. In narrative mode battles are described cinematically — the narrator conveys the chaos, danger, and emotion of the fight without prompting for commands or tracking HP.
- #9Yo-kai Tribes & Matchups
Keys: Mysterious, Heartful, Slippery, tribal, Eerie, Shady, Tough, tribe strength, Charming, tribe weakness, tribe, Brave
Enabled · After character · Order 100 · 100%
Entry settings
Every Yo-kai belongs to one of eight tribes. Matchup cycle — strong against: Brave beats Eerie. Eerie beats Mysterious. Mysterious beats Heartful. Heartful beats Shady. Shady beats Charming. Charming beats Tough. Tough beats Slippery. Slippery beats Brave. Tribe personalities: Brave — bold, courageous. Mysterious — wise, ancient, enigmatic. Tough — powerful, durable. Charming — elegant, persuasive, often deceptive. Heartful — warm, empathetic, healing-focused. Shady — selfish, cunning. Eerie — unsettling, ghostly. Slippery — bizarre, chaotic. In narrative mode tribe identity informs personality and social standing rather than combat math.
- #10Soultimate Moves
Keys: ultimate move, special move, finishing move, Soul Move, Soultimate
Enabled · After character · Order 100 · 100%
Entry settings
Every Yo-kai has one Soultimate Move — their signature ultimate ability. In RPG mode it is charged by filling the Soul Meter then activated by spinning the watch dial. In narrative mode a Soultimate represents a Yo-kai pushing beyond their normal limits — a moment of peak effort or emotion they cannot sustain indefinitely. Soultimates are personal and expressive, reflecting the Yo-kai's core personality and power. Jibanyan's is Paws of Fury. Whisper has no Soultimate.
- #11Yo-kai Busters
Keys: team mission, Busters, Buster T, raid, Yo-kai Busters
Enabled · After character · Order 100 · 100%
Entry settings
Yo-kai Busters is a cooperative action-focused mode where teams confront powerful boss Yo-kai in real-time combat using Blaster model Watches and Buster T equipment. Roles vary — attackers, healers, defenders. In narrative terms this represents organized coordinated Yo-kai hunts or emergency exorcisms of dangerously powerful spirits requiring teamwork. The scale is larger and the danger greater than standard encounters.
- #12Evolution
Keys: next form, Yo-kai evolves, level up, evolve, stronger form, evolution
Enabled · After character · Order 100 · 100%
Entry settings
Many Yo-kai can evolve into stronger forms when conditions are right. In RPG mode this happens at certain levels or through specific items. In narrative mode evolution is a meaningful personal transformation — a Yo-kai who has grown through shared experience or overcome something significant. Evolution should feel earned. Example chains: Roughraff evolves into Badude. Draggie evolves into Dragon Lord. Walkappa evolves into Appak. Some evolutions require a specific Evolution item.
- #13Fusion
Keys: fusion, merge, Yo-kai fusion, fuse, combine
Enabled · After character · Order 100 · 100%
Entry settings
Certain Yo-kai can fuse together to produce an entirely new, more powerful Yo-kai with a distinct identity blending or transcending both components. In RPG mode fusion requires specific combinations. In narrative mode fusion is an extraordinary event — two Yo-kai merging willingly or by circumstance, producing something genuinely new. It is not reversible and should be treated as a significant story moment. Example: Jibanyan + Whisper = Buchinyan.
- #14The Yo-kai Pad
Keys: search Yo-kai, look up, Yo-kai encyclopedia, Yo-kai Pad, Whisper pad
Enabled · After character · Order 100 · 100%
Entry settings
The Yo-kai Pad is a tablet-like device carried by Whisper functioning as an encyclopedia of Yo-kai. Whisper always pretends to already know the information personally before secretly checking it. The Pad contains entry data on known Yo-kai including tribe, abilities, favorite food, and location. It does not always have entries for rare or unknown Yo-kai, which causes Whisper visible distress. In narrative mode the Pad is a storytelling prop — Whisper's frantic tablet-checking is a source of both information and comedy.
- #15The Dream World
Keys: Busters T, Yo-kai Watch Dream, dream Yo-kai, dream dimension, Dream World
Enabled · After character · Order 100 · 100%
Entry settings
The Dream World is a surreal dimension accessible via the Yo-kai Watch Dream model. Its geography is unstable — locations shift, distances are unreliable, and normal logic applies loosely. It is inhabited by Yo-kai found nowhere else, shaped by dream logic. Time moves differently here. The atmosphere fluctuates between wondrous and deeply unsettling. It connects to the Yo-kai Busters T missions. Navigating it requires adaptability — rules that work in the human world may not apply.
- #16Time Travel
Keys: different era, 60 years, history, another time, future, time travel, past
Enabled · After character · Order 100 · 100%
Entry settings
Time travel is possible in the Yo-kai Watch world through special Yo-kai abilities or artifacts. The past is not immutable — events can be changed with rippling consequences for the present. Yo-kai exist across time periods with their appearances and knowledge shaped by their era. Some ancient Yo-kai carry memories stretching back centuries. Changing the past carelessly risks erasing or altering the present in unpredictable ways.
- #17Yo-kai Society & Hierarchy
Keys: Yo-kai hierarchy, Yo-kai society, Yo-kai community, spirit world politics, Yo-kai King
Enabled · After character · Order 100 · 100%
Entry settings
Yo-kai have a functioning society with their own hierarchy, culture, and politics. A Yo-kai King rules from the spirit realm. Tribe membership shapes social identity — Shady Tribe are often distrusted, Brave Tribe command respect, Mysterious Tribe are treated with deference. Legendary Yo-kai occupy a tier above ordinary Yo-kai in both power and status. Yo-kai have their own economy, living spaces, and community structures. Not all Yo-kai Inspirit humans deliberately — some simply exist and radiate their nature passively.
- #18Playing as a Yo-kai
Keys: spirit character, no watch, Yo-kai player, born as Yo-kai, Yo-kai character, playing as Yo-kai, I am a Yo-kai
Enabled · After character · Order 100 · 100%
Entry settings
If the player is a Yo-kai, Watch mechanics and medal systems do not apply. As a Yo-kai the player: moves through walls and between worlds freely; is invisible to humans without a Watch; senses other Yo-kai naturally; has a tribal identity that shapes how others treat them; possesses a Soultimate and natural Inspirit ability. The world is experienced from outside human society — observing and influencing the human world as an unseen presence. Yo-kai society, tribal politics, and the spirit world become the primary social environment.
- #19Yo-kai Favorite Food Categories
Keys: food category, favorite food, what food, food types, likes to eat
Enabled · After character · Order 100 · 100%
Entry settings
Every Yo-kai has a favorite food category that influences befriending. Categories: Meat — burgers, sausages, BBQ. Seafood — sushi, fish, shrimp. Rice Balls — onigiri and rice dishes. Candy — sweets, chocolate, gummies. Veggies — salads, greens. Ramen — noodle dishes. Chinese Food — dumplings, fried rice. Dairy — milk, cheese, yogurt. Curry — spiced rice dishes. Bread — sandwiches, rolls. Giving a Yo-kai their preferred food during or after an encounter is a meaningful gesture of care even in narrative mode.
