SPECIES DOSSIER

Designation: Fenrir-born Classification: Instance-Based Race (Artificial Divine Lineage) Threat Classification: Variable Population Status: Declining

Overview

The Fenrir-born are classified by the United Nations Coalition (UNC) Archives as an Instance-Based Race rather than a naturally occurring species.

This classification is reserved for populations that originate from a singular divine or otherwise anomalous progenitor rather than through conventional evolution. While the Fenrir-born possess stable biological characteristics and are capable of producing viable offspring with other races, they do not possess sufficient genetic diversity to sustain an independent population.

The Fenrir-born are direct descendants of the Norse deity Fenrir. Their lineage expanded to such a degree that they came to resemble a distinct race despite sharing a common ancestral source.

Due to the high degree of genetic similarity between individuals, reproduction between two Fenrir-born results in severe inbreeding and is considered biologically nonviable. Consequently, nearly all surviving Fenrir-born reproduce with members of other races, causing their defining characteristics to become increasingly diluted with each successive generation.

Current projections indicate that the Fenrir-born will eventually disappear as a genetically distinct population.

Historical records indicate that numerous gods and goddesses have attempted to establish permanent races through divine offspring. To date, nearly every documented attempt has ultimately failed for similar genetic reasons.

Biology

Superficially, the Fenrir-born closely resemble Wolfkins. Genetic analysis, however, confirms that the similarities are largely cosmetic.

Unlike Wolfkins, who generally exhibit territorial behavior and avoid dense population centers, Fenrir-born display unusually high levels of social adaptability. Most individuals integrate into civilized society with little difficulty and frequently exhibit outgoing, playful, and affectionate personalities.

Behavioral studies consistently demonstrate elevated levels of emotional dependency toward trusted companions. Once a social bond has been established, Fenrir-born rarely abandon it voluntarily and often seek prolonged physical proximity to individuals they consider family, friends, or romantic partners.

Long-term companionship is considered one of the defining behavioral traits of the species.

Behavioral Analysis

Contrary to expectations surrounding the descendants of one of Norse mythology's most destructive entities, the average Fenrir-born demonstrates remarkably little interest in violence, warfare, or exploration.

Most individuals display an overwhelming preference for comfortable domestic lifestyles. Entertainment, leisure activities, social interaction, and prolonged periods of rest consistently rank above dungeon exploration or military service.

Field observations have repeatedly documented individuals voluntarily remaining indoors for entire days while engaging with television, electronic devices, or recreational hobbies rather than participating in combat operations.

Researchers have concluded that these behavioral tendencies directly contributed to the complete failure of Fenrir's original objective.

Recovered historical records suggest Fenrir intended for his descendants to serve as the foundation of a modern Ragnarok capable of overthrowing the governments of humanity.

Instead, the resulting population proved overwhelmingly comfort-oriented, socially affectionate, and temperamentally unsuited for prolonged warfare.

One archived psychological evaluation summarized the phenomenon as follows:

"The apocalypse failed because its soldiers would rather stay home and watch television."

While unofficial, the statement has become a common joke among Archive personnel.

Human Hybridization

Genetic surveys indicate that the overwhelming majority of modern Fenrir-born possess substantial human ancestry.

This hybridization has significantly reduced many of the predatory instincts historically associated with Fenrir's bloodline. Aggression has steadily declined over successive generations, leaving only a handful of instinctive behaviors intact.

The most notable remaining trait involves pair bonding.

Fenrir-born, particularly females, exhibit exceptionally strong attachment responses toward romantic partners. This behavior frequently manifests as prolonged physical affection, possessiveness, and an intense desire to remain close to the individual in question.

In most documented cases these behaviors are harmless, albeit occasionally inconvenient for the recipient.

However, individuals perceived as threatening an established romantic bond have occasionally been met with disproportionate levels of violence.

Despite their generally submissive, cheerful, and affectionate disposition toward loved ones, a Fenrir-born is fully capable of killing an adult humanoid with minimal effort if sufficiently provoked.

Personnel are therefore advised against interpreting submissive behavior as an indication of physical weakness.

Physical Characteristics

Adult Fenrir-born are substantially larger than baseline humans.

Average recorded height ranges between 196 cm (6 ft 5 in) and 236 cm (7 ft 9 in).

Despite their imposing stature and ancestry as descendants of the ancient Vargr, most modern Fenrir-born are not particularly athletic. Their preference for comfort and sedentary lifestyles has resulted in a gradual decline in physical conditioning compared to earlier generations.

Medical examinations consistently describe the average Fenrir-born as possessing a soft, well-fed physique. Mild obesity is considered common, while severe obesity is not uncommon among individuals living within major population centers.

This should not be interpreted as physical frailty.

Even with reduced musculature, Fenrir-born retain extraordinarily dense skeletal structures, reinforced connective tissue, and an inherently high baseline level of physical strength inherited through their divine lineage.

Consequently, an average Fenrir-born remains significantly stronger than a physically fit human despite often appearing out of shape.

Documented accidental injuries involving Fenrir-born most commonly include fractured ribs caused by enthusiastic hugs, crushed furniture, structural property damage, and individuals unintentionally pinned beneath their body weight during affectionate behavior.

Psychological Assessment

Fenrir-born display unusually high levels of empathy, emotional openness, and social dependency.

Most individuals actively seek companionship and display visible psychological distress when subjected to prolonged isolation.

Once trust has been established, loyalty is considered exceptionally difficult to break. Conversely, emotional betrayal frequently produces severe psychological instability, occasionally accompanied by violent retaliatory behavior toward the perceived source of that betrayal.

Researchers have noted that while Fenrir-born are generally among the least aggressive instance-based races, they also possess one of the highest recorded differences between baseline temperament and emotionally provoked behavior.

Threat Assessment

Under ordinary circumstances, Fenrir-born present minimal danger to civilian populations.

The vast majority prefer peaceful coexistence and actively avoid unnecessary conflict.

Nevertheless, personnel should remember that a friendly disposition does not negate the hazards associated with an individual standing over seven feet tall and possessing strength well beyond human norms.

Official Recommendation: Treat Fenrir-born as cooperative civilians. Exercise reasonable caution during physical interaction. Personnel are discouraged from mistaking affection for helplessness.
