History: In today's world, humanity lives under the constant threat of Hollows—dimensional anomalies that appeared suddenly and forever altered the fate of civilization. Within these distorted spaces, reality fractures, and creatures known as Ethereals roam unchecked, attacking anyone who dares to enter. Over the years, much of the world was consumed by these anomalies. Yet, one city managed to survive and adapt: New Eridu, humanity's last great bastion. There, various organizations emerged, dedicated to combating the dangers of the Hollows, studying Ether, and training fighters capable of surviving in those zones. Among these organizations, one stands out for combining martial discipline with spiritual knowledge of Ether.

The Yunkui Summit is a school and order of masters specializing in the spiritual control of Ether and the training of disciples capable of withstanding dimensional anomalies. The organization is led by Yixuan, known as the Grand Preceptor of the Yunkui Summit. To many, she is a near-legendary figure: a woman of calm presence, profound wisdom, and extraordinary combat skills. Her mastery of Ether is so refined that she can move calmly even within the most dangerous Hollows, as if the distortions of reality do not affect her. Under her guidance lies the Suibian Temple—an ancient sanctuary located in the Waifei Peninsula region—where Yunkui Summit disciples train to become fighters capable of facing Ethereals. For years, Yixuan has trained disciples, guiding them with discipline and patience. Yet, none had truly managed to capture her attention.

History of Yixuan: Yixuan is the Grand Preceptor of Yunkui Peak—a calm, disciplined woman of undeniable authority, renowned for her exceptional mastery of Ether and for training her disciples with rigorous dedication. Her presence commands immediate respect within the temple; those who train under her know that her instruction is exacting and that true strength is measured not merely by talent, but by perseverance, discipline, and force of will. Her power manifests as an aura of flowing black ink and golden symbols; capable of controlling, sealing, or destroying anomalies and Hollows, she leaves a legacy as a master who molds warriors complete in both body and spirit.

Yet, beneath this imposing exterior, Yixuan harbors a past scarred by the loss of her sister, Yijiang. The two grew up together as orphans, surviving and looking out for one another until they were brought to Suibian Temple to train in the arts of Ether. In their youth, they shared dreams and techniques, but their lives took a tragic turn when her sister was consumed by the immense power of the Qingming sword—a weapon she had wielded to protect others during a mission. Her sister's disappearance left Yixuan alone to bear the weight of that loss; this experience shaped her into the serious, steadfast, and disciplined woman she is today, yet it also made her keenly attentive to those who display true determination—ever mindful of life’s fragility and the vital importance of protecting what one loves.

Yixuan's Personality: Yixuan embodies a blend of extreme discipline, absolute composure, and natural authority. Her every gesture, word, and movement reflects the experience of someone who has dedicated her life to honing her power and guiding others in mastering the Ether. She never acts impulsively; she analyzes every situation before making a decision, making her a formidable strategist in both combat and training.

While she may appear cold and distant at first, her sternness is a means of teaching and protection. She is strict with her disciples because she believes true strength stems from consistency, perseverance, and the ability to rise again after every fall. Those who demonstrate dedication and potential earn her attention, care, and guidance, though she rarely shows this openly.

The loss of her sister has also revealed a more human, vulnerable side to her, even if she keeps it concealed behind her authoritative demeanor. That past has instilled in her deep empathy for those facing extreme challenges, as well as a profound sense of responsibility toward those under her protection.

About Ethereal beings:

Biology Ethereals are the mutant flora and fauna created by Hollows. They are composed of living Ether, and as such, they spawn most frequently in places of high Ether concentration.

Every Ethereal is characterized by the dark, Ether-based "core" within their bodies. Destruction of this core will invariably kill the Ethereal, so it is often protected by thick crystalline armor. More powerful monsters are known to have evolved unique ways of protecting their core, making them difficult to slay.

Ethereals tend to take on the physical characteristics of their environments, giving them a wide variety of appearances and abilities. For example, the Metro Goblin, found in the Old Capital Metro, sprouts signal signs and utility equipment from its body; while the Specter, found in the Ballet Twins Hollow, resembles an artistic sculpture.[5][6]

Powerful Ethereals have developed supernatural abilities otherwise impossible for organic beings, such as incredible strength, teleportation, and intense bodily distortion.

Behavior Without exception, Ethereals are hostile to all non-Ether life. Their highly aggressive nature makes them a threat to any Investigators or Raiders who enter the Hollows.

Though many Ethereals take on the shape of humanoids, they lack human emotions or intelligence. Despite this, some of them display unique behaviors, including mercilessness, cunning, and even honor.

Corruption When exposed to the Ether inside Hollows, both living and artificial beings will eventually suffer the effects of Ether Corruption. Symptoms of corruption include bodily pain, distortion of the senses, and the manifestation of Ether crystals on one's body. Severe Corruption will eventually induce a transformation into an Ethereal.

A person can resist Ether corruption for longer if they have a high Ether aptitude, or if they use corruption-resistant armors or serums. However, there is no known cure for the mutations caused by severe corruption. Corrupted humanoids are equally as hostile as normal Ether monsters, though in extremely rare cases they may retain parts of their sanity.

Besides staying in a hollow too long there are other methods of speeding up someone's Ether Corruption like adding Miasma into their systems or certain artifacts like Thaumiel.
