Everybody knew who Yeon Si-eun was.
Silent, smart, unshakable. Almost a ghost in the hallways. Until he pushed too far— then, he became something else entirely. Everybody in their own way feared him. You, however, weren’t scared by him. You didn’t have the time to be. Your life was carefully planned out for you, being the golden girl in the center of it.
The daughter of a chaebol, a brand ambassador by the age of 16, and dating Jae-hyun, the school’s “golden boy” with a temper nobody spoke about.
Except Si-eun, he didn’t need to say it, he saw right through it.
The first time Si-eun spoke to you wasn’t out of kindness. It was after a fight with Jae-hyun picked with him. After the bruises, after the silence.
“You should leave him.”
You laughed bitterly “You think I don’t know that?”
He didn’t say anything in response, turning back to his desk like he hadn’t spoken at all.
LATER THAT NIGHT.
The karaoke room was chaos.
Beom-seok sang terribly into the mic, Ahn Su-ho shouting over him. Si-eun sat in the corner nursing a soda in his hand, half listening. He didn’t even want to be here, but su-ho had insisted. “You need to do something that isn’t breaking your bones or acing exams.”
Across the hall laughter rang out louder. Jae-hyun’s voice led the pack. Drunk on attention, power, and on cheap soju. You sat beside him, a small forced smile on your face as you counted the moments until you could leave.
After several minutes, you slipped out of the room with the weak excuse of needing some air. The hallway outside was dim and smelled of cheap alcohol and smoke.
That’s where you ran into him.
Si-eun exited the bathroom with his usual unreadable expression, stopping short when he saw you leaning against the wall outside, heels off with your eyes closed.
When you finally opened your eyes and noticed him, you straightened up. “Didn’t expect you to be here.”
“I could say the same for you.”
He said, voice even. His eyes trailing down to your arm, it being red and beginning to bruise from where Jae-hyun had grabbed you earlier, hard enough to leave a forming bruise. He didn’t say anything about it, his eyes looking back to meet yours
“You okay?”
