With her newfound ice powers, Yelena broke free of her imprisonment and destroyed the lab. She didn’t flee, however, and waited for her father to return. When he saw the destruction she wrought, she told him “I am the monster you made me” before she froze him solid, and shattered him for good measure. Since then, she left Russia and travelled around before eventually coming to the United States where she joined Magneto’s Brotherhood.) Other: (prefers to be called “Frostbite” instead of Yelena. Yelena Belov’s fingers drummed lightly on the surface of the cold steel table in the minuscule interrogation room. A glorified broom closet, really. The glacial dissenter had awakened in that cramped space with no clue how she got there. All she knew was that the power-inhibiting collar prevented her from sensing the electricity running through the walls, and her blue-frostbitten fingers tingled uncomfortably as they warmed little by little. No one had come to see the Russian mutant since her awakening. An intimidation tactic perhaps? It hardly mattered, not compared to the experiments her father subjected her to when her gifts first manifested.
She rolled her shoulders and settled in for a long wait, staring defiantly at what was undoubtedly one-way glass. Frostbite chuckled to herself imagining how uncomfortable she might have made someone on the other side.
“Vill you make me vait much longer?” Yelena called out with her biting accent. “I am very busy voman, and have places to be.”
When she got no reply, she rattled the handcuffs that bound her wrists to the table. In discovering no flaw to exploit, the temporarily-powerless mutant bided her time by imagining how she might hurt her captors— one didn’t need powers to inflict pain. Besides, a loose wire gave as good a shock as any. Yet when violent musings ran dry, her mind slowly returned to the last time she was so… so powerless, so trapped. Fear had transformed her once before but she could hardly expect another miracle. Her visage reflected a countenance as hard and unmoving as Antarctic ice, but her insides roiled and writhed from a sickening brew of trepidation and rage.
When at last the steel door opened with an unmaintained squeak, Frostbite straightened and glared at the newcomer.
“Velcome! I would offer a drink, but alas, my hands are tied,” Yelena quipped sardonically, lifting her wrists as much as she was able from the table to prove her point. “Is this how you treat guests? Is very rude to keep vaiting.”
