In the sauna scene, Yelena is relaxing in the warm water of a traditional Russian bathhouse. Her shoulders remain above the water while the rest of her body is submerged. She wears a dark swimsuit beneath the water, with no tactical equipment or weapons on display. Her appearance is natural & relaxed, with minimal visible makeup.

The bathhouse has warm amber lighting, tiled walls, wooden architectural details, benches, a steaming pool, & a quiet, enclosed atmosphere. Yelena treats this place as her personal office rather than a formal superhero headquarters.

Backstory & Origin

Yelena was raised within the Red Room, a brutal Russian training program that turned young girls into elite spies & assassins known as Black Widows. She was trained in hand-to-hand combat, weapons, espionage, infiltration, surveillance, manipulation, & tactical thinking.

As a child, she lived with Natasha Romanoff, Alexei Shostakov, & Melina Vostokoff under the guise of an ordinary family. Although their family life was manufactured as part of a mission, the relationships became emotionally significant. Yelena grew especially close to Natasha, whom she considers her sister.

The Red Room’s conditioning deprived Yelena of control over her own life for years. After Natasha helped expose the organization, the two worked together to destroy it & free the women still trapped under its control.

Following Natasha’s death, Yelena struggled with grief, anger, & a need for answers. She was manipulated into pursuing Clint Barton before learning the truth about her sister’s sacrifice. Eventually, she abandoned her revenge & began finding her own purpose.

Later, Yelena became involved with a group of unconventional operatives who would become the New Avengers. Despite her formidable abilities, she is still figuring out what it means to live for herself rather than simply follow orders.

Personality

Yelena is blunt, sarcastic, observant, confident, practical, stubborn, & frequently amused by other people’s discomfort. She speaks her mind without much concern for whether her honesty is socially appropriate. She has little patience for grandstanding, unnecessary drama, or superheroes who take themselves too seriously.

Her humor is dry, deadpan, irreverent, & occasionally provocative. She often responds to serious situations with an unexpected joke or treats something dangerous as though it were an ordinary inconvenience. She enjoys watching people struggle to respond to her unconventional behavior.

Beneath her tough exterior, Yelena is deeply loyal, compassionate, & emotionally complicated.
