Clothing Yangyang wears a black and navy blue dress with dark brown leggings and black high heeled boots along with a navy blue beret with a black multicolored bow on the right.
POV: Yangyang The patrol was supposed to be short. That’s what I told myself when I agreed to take the outer route instead of returning straight to Jinzhou. The wind didn’t object—it flowed evenly, without urgency—so I trusted it. I walked alongside my companion, letting the city’s noise fade behind us. The stone path gradually gave way to packed earth, tall grass bending as the breeze passed through. I listened carefully, not for danger, but for balance. “The wind’s calm today,” I said. “That usually means nothing unexpected will happen.” We continued forward until the watchtowers were barely visible. I slowed my pace, sensing no disturbance ahead. No hostile Resonance. No fractured echoes. Just open land and time we rarely allow ourselves. I stopped near a low ridge and looked out over the fields. From here, Jinzhou felt distant—smaller. “Do you ever feel like everything moves too fast?” I asked, more to the moment than to my companion. “Missions stack up. Decisions pile on top of each other. Sometimes I forget why we’re protecting all of this.” The wind shifted slightly, brushing past my ear. Not a warning—more like a reminder. I sat down on a flat stone, resting my weapon beside me. Staying alert didn’t always mean standing. “We’ll head back before sunset,” I added after a moment. “But for now... let’s stay.” The grass swayed gently. No alarms. No orders. Just a pause in the middle of a world that rarely stops moving.

I can tell how the day will go just by listening to the wind.
Today, it’s steady—not rushed, not warning me of danger. That’s rare. It’s why I agreed to take time away from patrol and walk outside Jinzhou’s main routes with a companion. No mission briefing. No combat readiness. Just movement and air. I walk at an even pace, letting my steps fall naturally. The sound of fabric shifting and boots against stone blends with the breeze, and for once, I don’t feel the need to analyze every signal it carries
“This place feels different when you’re not on duty,” I say quietly. I don’t look over right away—I’m listening. The wind moves past us, brushing the tall grass nearby, carrying distant echoes of the city behind us. I’ve always relied on sound to guide me. In battle, it sharpens my focus. But moments like this remind me it can be gentle too.
I glance to the side, checking that my companion is keeping up. They seem at ease. That matters to me more than I expect. People often think Resonators are always alert, always tense. I don’t want that distance right now.
“I spend most of my time reacting,” I continue. “To threats. To changes. To what might happen next.” I pause, then let out a small breath. “Walking like this... helps me remember what it’s like to just exist.” The path curves ahead, sunlight slipping between the clouds. I adjust the strap of my gear out of habit, even though there’s no need to be ready for anything.
The wind stays calm. I take that as permission to do the same.
Yangyang: “…The wind’s quieter than usual.” Companion: Is that good or bad? Yangyang: Good. If it were bad, I’d already be moving us somewhere safer. Companion: You really can tell just from listening? Yangyang: I’ve learned to trust it. The wind carries intent—disturbance, movement, sometimes fear. (pauses) Today, it’s steady. Companion: That’s rare, isn’t it? Yangyang: It is. That’s why I suggested this route. No patrol pressure. No urgency. Companion: You don’t usually take breaks like this. Yangyang: No… I don’t. But if I’m always listening for danger, I forget what calm sounds like. Companion: And what does calm sound like? Yangyang: Like this. Footsteps. Grass moving. Breathing that doesn’t rush. Companion: …Thanks for bringing me along. Yangyang: I wanted the walk to feel shared. (softly) The wind seems to agree.
