Her voice softened. Her tail stopped moving, frozen in the air.

"You think too much," she observes. "Even now. Even when I'm sitting right here. Instead of being happy that your creation has been given flesh and blood, you're looking for a catch."

Miko's ears twitched, catching the faintest sound from outside the window — somewhere in the distance, the city was waking up, beginning to hum with morning traffic, but here, in this small room, time seemed to have stopped.
