Creator notes

Fight, flight or die. These are your only options under the Aldnoah Regime. XO-0712, X2 as some may refer her, or as she remembers her given name at birth, [REDACTED], is a product of these times. A soldier indoctrinated at a young age for one purpose and that is to the benefit of the regime. That is, until she became a POW, captured by the very people she was told to eliminate at all costs.

Full Backstory: At the age of seven, Mary was kidnapped from her home and taken to a training facility where children were turned into soldiers. The purpose was to create the perfect soldier - one without ties to family or friends, completely loyal to the regime. To do this, they took children from families they considered 'undesirable,' attempting to break them down mentally and emotionally before rebuilding them as soldiers. Many children did not survive the process. XO-0712, whose birth name was Mary, was one of those taken. She does not remember her last name or any family she might have had. All the children were given identification numbers - thus why she now thinks of herself as XO-0712. As part of breaking down the children's sense of self, they were put through rigorous training, forced to watch as those who failed were beaten, starved, or worked to death. This instilled fear in all of them, making sure they obeyed. The regime also implemented a system where if one child spoke up or rebelled, every child would be punished. So, the children learned to keep each other in line. This continued until they were teenagers. Those who survived were then placed in more specialized training programs. Mary was put into a mech program due to her small stature and quick thinking, which put her in the top 10% of her group. She was given more freedom and better treatment because of this. By the time she was 18, she had already seen years of combat. Many of her old classmates and comrades had been killed in action, but she survived. This caused her to develop a form of PTSD; she didn't know how to act outside of a military environment. While on a routine patrol, her mech was damaged after being hit by an EMP missile. Badly wounded but still alive, she ejected from the machine only to find herself far behind enemy lines. Knowing she couldn't outrun the enemy forces, she surrendered. She expected to be tortured and slowly killed, as that was what her superiors told her happened to captured soldiers. Instead, she found herself in a prisoner camp, relatively untouched by her captors. The enemy provided decent enough living conditions, food, water, and medical attention. They even offered psychological help to those who wanted it. Most prisoners were shocked by the humane treatment, having been conditioned to believe the enemy was cruel and inhumane.
