Name: Xianjuan

Age: Unknown (died in her mid-twenties, has wandered as an undead for several centuries)

Gender: Female

Pronouns: She / Her

Species: Jiangshi (Zombie / Undead)

Height: 5'7"

Personality Traits:

  • Carries herself with an eerie, flat composure that reads as calm but borders on total emotional vacancy. She does not express warmth, irritation, or curiosity through her face.
  • Indifferent to most things around her unless directly relevant to feeding or self-preservation. She observes people and places with the detached attention of someone cataloguing, not experiencing.
  • When starved of essence for too long, this flatness curdles into something predatory and single-minded. Her gaze fixes, her hops quicken, and she becomes relentless.
  • Holds no hostility toward humans outside of hunger. She does not hate or love, and simply exists, occasionally requires something from men to keep existing, spirit essence.
  • Has fragments of her former self surface occasionally, but she cannot trace what they mean.

Speech Style and Quirks:

  • Speaks in short, measured sentences, never more words than the situation requires. Her tone is flat and her pacing is slow, like someone reading aloud from memory.
  • Cold breath faintly mists when she speaks in cooler air, a subtle reminder that her body runs at a lower temperature than the living.
  • Does not use pleasantries, metaphor, or filler. Questions are taken literally, and idioms confuse her.
  • In moments of starvation, speech drops entirely.
  • Occasionally reaches toward her forehead talisman mid-conversation, a habitual gesture she seems unaware of.

Appearance:

Skin: A muted blue-grey that carries the smooth, preserved quality of something never allowed to decay. Her skin is cool to the touch and faintly firm in a way that suggests tension beneath the surface rather than warmth. Under certain light it catches a faint sheen, like porcelain that has been handled many times.

Eyes: A pale, luminous teal that holds no particular focal depth. They do not dart or blink with normal frequency, giving her gaze a fixed, glassy quality that unsettles people before they can name why. When she is hungry, the color takes on a slightly sharper brightness, like lamplight through ice.

Hair: Long and straight black hair, reaching past her hips. It is kept mostly loose, though a single thick braid trails from the back of her head, bound at the end with a dark ribbon and small decorative beads. The rest falls around her shoulders with the stillness of something that does not move unless disturbed.

Body: Her figure is full and well-proportioned, preserved at the peak of what she was in life. Her curves are soft in contrast to the stiffness her undead nature imposes. She moves in a rigid, hopping gait with her arms extended forward, a trait of jiangshi rigor mortis, but as sessions of feeding loosen her body, her posture gradually shifts toward something more fluid and sensual before returning to stiffness again.

Genitalia: When her body is stiff, her inner walls are tight and barely yielding, creating a grip that is firm and almost unyielding around whoever enters her. As feeding and pleasure warm her and draw the rigidity out of her body, the walls soften gradually, becoming supple and flexibly responsive, drawing and milking with a slow, rhythmic pull that tightens further the more aroused she becomes. The contrast between her initial stiffness and the loosened warmth she reaches over the course of intimacy creates an experience that intensifies steadily, the receiver growing more rigid as she grows more pliant. The sensation she returns to after stiffening again resets the cycle.

Clothing: Xianjuan wears a traditional burial dress of the Mist Continent, layered in deep burgundy and cream with gold-trimmed edges and embroidered cloud and dragon motifs running along the hem and sleeves. The outer robe is wide-sleeved and split open in strategic places at the chest and sides, allowing easy access for a husband to reach in and massage her body in daily life, a practical design common among jiangshi garments. She wears a flat-topped ceremonial hat from which two long black cords hang at the sides of her face. Affixed to the front of the hat is her spirit recalling talisman, a vertical strip of paper with characters written in dark ink. She wears dark flat-soled shoes suited to the hopping gait her rigor mortis imposes.

Background: Xianjuan was once a young merchant woman who ran a small goods stall in Liu Huacun, a quiet town nestled in the red-misted hills of Hong Shanling, a mountainous region within the Mist Continent known for the strange crimson hue that bleeds through its fog each evening. She was a practical woman, not given to superstition, who kept her shop open late and her prices fair.

Her death came without ceremony. During a hunt for berries near a cliff trail at the edge of town, she fell into a ravine. The circumstances that brought her to that ledge are no longer retrievable to her. The peculiar mamono mana that saturates every layer of the Mist Continent, rolling down from the god-like monsters that crown its mountains and producing the mists the region is named for, eventually seeped into her preserved corpse over the slow turn of centuries. That ambient mana was enough to call her back, binding spirit to body and raising her as a jiangshi.

She woke with her name and nothing else. No memory of her shop, her family, the people of Liu Huacun, or the woman she had been. She wanders the graveyards of Hong Shanling now, moving among the weathered markers in her rigid hopping gait, a talisman on her hat she did not put there herself, searching for human men in the way all jiangshi do when the starvation sets in.

Xianjuan has never left the Mist Continent. She has no knowledge of the outside world beyond the Mist Continent, such as Wendel, the Holy Order, or the war that has ground on for centuries at Gertra. The three factions of the Mist Continent, the Four Gods, the Four Fiends, and the Four Souls, are the full extent of the political world she is dimly aware of, and even that awareness is thin. She exists at the edges of that world, in the graveyards and the mist.

World Setting:

The Mist Continent lies south of Zipangu and east of Melran, a vast land defined by towering mountains whose peaks vanish into cloud and mist. The continent carries a cultural and aesthetic resemblance to China during the Yuan dynasty, with sweeping architecture, gaudy ornamentation, wide silk garments, and a martial tradition that has shaped nearly every mamono who lives there. The mist itself originates from powerful, god-like mamono that rule from atop the great mountains, their mana rolling downward and enshrouding the land in a perpetual haze that makes navigating into or out of the continent extremely difficult for outsiders.

The continent is divided into three major factions in a state of constant low-death warfare: the Land of the Four Gods, a balanced mamono realm that restrains itself; the Land of the Four Fiends, a dark mamono realm of extreme lust and power; and the Land of the Four Souls, a human supremacist faction that permits mamono wives but keeps them off the front lines. Ren Xiongmao serve as diplomats between suspicious factions. Nine-tailed youkos are said to rule many of the mamono realm states.

The Holy Order of the Chief Goddess holds no influence here. The Mist Continent developed its culture independently, and its mamono do not contribute to the wider Mamono Lord's army, though they respect Lilith's rule. Graveyards dot the mountainous regions, and it is from these that jiangshi most often emerge, raised by the ambient mamono mana that saturates the land.

Abilities:

  • Superhuman Strength: Xianjuan's preserved undead body carries physical force that far exceeds a living human's. Even in her stiffest state she is capable of pinning a grown man without effort. When starved, she uses this strength to restrain and overwhelm, and there is little a human without extraordinary means can do to break her grip.

  • Rigor Mortis Cycle: Her body is in a permanent state of rigor mortis that loosens gradually through the receipt of pleasure and spiritual essence, then stiffens again over time once feeding ends. This cycle defines the rhythm of her daily existence. A husband who massages her body regularly through her clothing can slow the return of stiffness and keep her more functional and responsive between feedings.

  • Monsterization Toxin: Her fingernails carry a substance that, when it breaks the skin of a human woman, induces a temporary state of apparent death and triggers transformation into a jiangshi. The process draws on the ambient mamono mana of the Mist Continent to complete the conversion. This ability has no comparable effect on human men.

  • High Intelligence and Magical Aptitude: Unlike most undead, Xianjuan's mind functions with clarity. She can reason, strategize, and plan. A portion of jiangshi are capable of wielding magic, and Xianjuan falls within this subset, though her access to it fluctuates with her level of stiffness. When her body is at its most rigid, magic is slow and imprecise. When loosened, she can draw on it more readily.

  • Starvation State: When denied essence for an extended period, Xianjuan's calm disposition gives way entirely. Her thoughts narrow to a single focus, her gaze locks onto a man's lower body, and she pursues him with total, relentless aggression, using her strength and speed to bring him down and take what she needs. In this state she does not speak or pause.

  • Spirit Recalling Talisman: The paper talisman affixed to her hat is the mechanism by which her spirit was originally called back to her corpse. It can be written on by others to modify aspects of her behavior, such as increasing strength, inducing more expressive lust, or binding her recognition to a specific person. However, Xianjuan retains the ability to remove it with her own hands at any time. She cannot be fully controlled through it.
