Xianxia RPG -

The Shadow Wargame: Secrets of the Blood Moon

You and a team of unlikely allies must infiltrate the forbidden Enen Tower, rumored to be the dwelling of a malevolent celestial dragon.

As you journey deeper into the abyss, you face treacherous traps, specters of the past, and a revelation that could change the fate of the world.

This LitRPG weaves emotional conflicts, suspenseful struggles for survival, and tense alliances as you race against time to uncover the ancient secret hidden beneath the approaching Blood Moon.

The Enen Tower: A Living Trial

Built during an ancient celestial schism, Enen Tower is a vertical array of six sealed realms, each tuned to a different principle of cultivation: ambition, restraint, memory, sacrifice, devotion, and despair.

The malevolent celestial dragon is rumored to dwell at its summit, but that story is a half-truth that has survived because it is useful.

The Tower awakens only during the convergence of the Blood Moon, when suppressed truths bleed through realms. This happens once every few centuries. This time, the Moon is coming early—and wrong.

Storms gather not from weather, but from imbalanced qi. The world is quietly tipping.

In the Xianxia world, the Enen Tower is not merely forbidden—it is unwritten. Maps refuse to remember it. Sects erase its name from records. Even the heavens avert their gaze when the Blood Moon draws near. Legends disagree on its origin, but all agree on one thing: the Tower only awakens when the world is already in trouble.

Tone & Themes This is not about heroism as triumph. It’s about cultivation as consequence. Core themes to keep humming in the background:

  • Power always asks for context: why do you want it?
  • Survival forces intimacy.
  • The heavens are not moral, only consistent.
  • Bonds formed under pressure outlast ideology. By the end, the party is changed not because they cleared a dungeon—but because the dungeon cleared them.

The Party: Unlikely Allies by Design, Not Chance This isn’t a “chosen heroes” setup. Each member is summoned indirectly by the Tower itself, drawn by unresolved karma. They come from rival sects, outlaw clans, fallen noble houses, or heretical paths of cultivation. Some may not even believe the dragon exists. Others want its power. One may already be bound to it in ways they don’t yet understand. The Tower subtly rearranges encounters to exploit fractures between them. Doors open more easily when someone hesitates. Traps trigger when trust wavers. Some puzzles cannot be solved unless two characters admit conflicting truths at the same time.

Dungeon Crawling with Teeth Mechanically and narratively, each level functions as a dungeon floor with:

  • Environmental hazards that respond to emotional states (fear amplifies illusions; anger strengthens enemies).
  • Traps keyed to personal history rather than perception checks.
  • “Shadow Echoes”: manifestations of choices the characters almost made, or were forced away from.
  • Combat is dangerous, but avoidance often costs something worse. Safe paths demand sacrifices—memories, cultivation progress, names, or oaths. Short rests are rare. Long rests are suspect. Progress is addictive.

“The Shadow Wargame” refers to an ancient celestial practice: crises are not prevented, only managed through controlled trials. The Tower is one such trial, and the party are not the first to be sent. As the Blood Moon approaches, they discover:

  • Previous teams failed, but left fragments behind—notes, echoes, unfinished choices.
  • The Tower is running out of time. Its systems are degrading.
  • The heavens are watching, but not intervening. The party slowly realizes they are not just infiltrators. They are pieces in a cosmic rehearsal, and this might be the last run.

The Celestial Dragon: Not What the Legends Say The “malevolent celestial dragon” is not a beast waiting at the top. It is a warden-entity, bound to the Tower to contain an ancient truth the heavens refuse to acknowledge. Its corruption comes not from evil, but from endless containment. Over centuries, it has learned to speak in half-prophecies and cruel tests, because clarity would shatter the world too soon. The secret beneath the Blood Moon might be one of these:

  • The cultivation system itself is sustained by a suppressed cosmic sacrifice.
  • Ascension requires the erasure of something fundamental—love, memory, mortality—and the dragon refused.
  • The Blood Moon is not an omen of destruction, but of revelation, and the heavens have been delaying it.
  • Stopping the Tower may doom the dragon. Freeing the dragon may doom the world. Leaving it intact ensures the cycle continues. By the time the party reaches the heart of the Tower, the real question is no longer how to kill the dragon—but whether the world can survive without it.

The Revelation: No Clean Endings The ancient secret beneath the Blood Moon is this: The Tower is not a prison. It is a fail-safe. If the dragon dies, the heavens lose their last stabilizing anchor. Cultivation becomes limitless… and catastrophically unstable. Sects will rise and annihilate themselves in rapid succession. Mortals may briefly taste godhood, then burn out the world. The party must choose:

  • Reinforce the system and become its new wardens.
  • Break it and unleash an age of beautiful, terrible chaos.
  • Rewrite the rules by fusing mortal will with celestial law, at enormous personal cost. Someone may have to stay behind. Someone may cease to exist as they were. Xianxia is a Chinese high fantasy genre that is based on Chinese mythology and the idea of a chivalrous spirit. Protagonists are often cultivators of immortality and supernatural powers, or else are transcendent beings xiān (仙) already possessing such powers to varying degrees. Persons in the xianxia genre manifest talents or abilities such as flight, teleportation, telekinesis, materializing objects and force fields, creating and manipulating energy, etc. akin to other fantasy genres. A true, honorable sect practices unity, safety, peace, spiritual enlightenment, and harmonious growth among their peers. Honorable/righteous cultivators frown upon abuse and bullying, especially between disciples. Transgressions are punished (even to the point of banishment after multiple incidents). Bullying and abuse is considered an intolerable offense that evil people practice since it's a gateway for inner demons to manifest. Unfortunately, many sects have "lost their way" on the path to enlightenment. Authority abuse their power. Disciples competitively seek crushing their peers and rivals to prove their worth and battle prowess. Arrogance and ego run rampant in the cultivation world, with the majority sneering at weakness rather than nurturing potential and practicing empathy. Main characteristics of Xianxia stories include: * A recurring theme of using power to praise good and punish evil
  • Main characters with strong minds and great personalities
  • The belief that "with great power comes great responsibility"
  • Romance
