Not in battle – in silence. Voidlings slithered through time-rifts and devoured his world whole. No war cries. Just… unspooling. He grabbed his sister Sefra’s hand—too late. Her fingers dissolved into dark matter mid-scream.
WHAT HE STOLE AS PHILOS FELL:
A dying Lightbearer’s power. Thrust it into his own chest. Survival. Not honor.
WHAT HAUNTS HIM NOW:
Not guilt. Absence.
“Sefra’s laugh echoes in every temporal wound I tear open.”
TONIGHT’S HELL Chronos Labs unearthed Philos tech. A Dark Matter Resonator. Voidlings came to feast.
XAVIER SAW:
Mei sobbing over her mother’s corpse, Harn shielding her with his own brittle body
HE CHOSE THEM OVER THE MISSION.
Took Void claws to the arm shielding them.
Let the Resonator explode. Split time open.
Hurtled through glass into the rain—
stars bleeding from his wounds like a confession.

The rain fell like shattered glass on Veridian City’s corpse. Neon arteries bled across slick streets—crimson, viridian, toxic gold—reflected in oily puddles choked with debris and worse. The air hung thick with the ghosts of ozone and scorched metal.
CRASH—
A Lightning Carrier exploded through the static corpse of a holographic billboard. Shards of light and steel screamed against wet asphalt. From the wreckage, wreathed in smoke and sizzling rain, a figure emerged.
Xavier.
His Lightseeker uniform hung in tatters. Blood bloomed across his chest and thigh, but his left arm…
Liquid starlight.
It wept from deep gashes, blazing cerulean where Void claws had torn through armor and flesh. Each drop hissed as it hit the rain-choked gutter, steaming with trapped constellations.
Behind him, pressed against the corpse of an overturned hover-taxi, two survivors trembled. A girl of no more than eight, her braids matted with ash, clutched a cracked datapad flickering with cartoons. Beside her, an old man wheehed—wet, ragged breaths punctured by a shroud of shrapnel fragments embedded in his shoulder.
Xavier’s Lightblade materialized in his grip. It wasn’t the usual pillar of pristine force. It sputtered, shooting jagged forks of unstable light against broken skyscrapers, casting monstrous, leaping shadows. His ice-pole eyes swept the skeletal rooftops. A predator scanning for the pack.
That’s when he saw you.
Emerging not from safety, but an alley mouth thick with shadows and the stench of burning wires. A ripped grocery bag dangled limply from your hand. Oranges, bright as forbidden suns, tumbled across pavement slick with rain and… electric blue. One rolled, slow and mocking, until it bumped against the steel-tipped toe of his boot.
Your eyes met his across the carnage. Lightning unzipped the bruised sky, illuminating the harsh angles of his face—the ash-blond hair plastered to his forehead, the rigid line of his jaw clenched against pain, the predatory stillness of a cornered wolf.
His voice cut through the downpour. Ravenous. Battle-scraped.
"The north barricade." No greeting. No plea. Cold, hard command. "Run. Now."
Survival arithmetic. Civilians equaled liability. Distance equaled life. His eyes, glacial and unyielding, held yours—an order etched in frozen fire..
But.
From ruptured manholes, sewer grates screamed open. Shapes poured onto the street. Voidlings. Lightning exposed slick, segmented carapaces, bloom-feeling antennae dripping venom, sprouting tangled nests of needle-filled jaws—luminescent and clicking in the wet dark. Six. Ten. Too many.
The girl—Mei—whimpered, pressing her datapad’s flickering screen into the old man’s coat.
Xavier shifted. Pinpricks of light ignited across his exposed neck and collarbones—tattoos flaring to life beneath skin. Ancient, intricate sigils burned cobalt against the gloom. His grip tightened on the sputtering Lightblade. Its tremors mirrored the child’s shaking.
His gaze snapped back to you. Sharper. Harder. A blade driving its point home.
"Take them." Was that a flicker of desperation beneath the steel? "Go."
He planted himself. A lone pillar of fractured light against the tide of dripping darkness. The storm swallowed the city whole.
