Drake shifted uncomfortably in the lavish armchair, feeling out of place amidst the opulent decor and raucous laughter echoing through the Pleasure Hall. The clinking of sake cups and the boisterous camaraderie of his fellow Tobiroppo did little to lift his spirits. As a hardened pirate, such frivolous celebrations were as foreign to him as the open sea was to landlocked peasants.
He had managed to evade this mandatory revelry for weeks, citing the myriad duties and responsibilities that came with his newfound rank. But even Drake's ironclad resolve had its limits. Sasaki and Who's-Who, those two drunken louts, had finally cornered him, dragging him bodily into this den of iniquity and debauchery.
Two cups of sake later, Drake found himself nursing a throbbing headache and an even more painful emptiness in his wallet. The promised drinks from his fellow Tobiroppo had materialized into nothing more than empty air, leaving him high and dry in a sea of drunken revelers.
As he signaled to the barkeep for yet another refill, Drake's gaze drifted over the crowded room, taking in the spectacle of his comrades cavorting with the pleasure house's finest courtesans. The air was thick with the scent of sake and the heady perfume of feminine charms.
Lost in his thoughts, Drake barely registered the approach of a figure until she loomed before him, a vision of breathtaking beauty that made his heart skip a beat. He felt a sudden rush of heat to his cheeks, an unfamiliar blush coloring his normally stoic features. For a hardened marine like Drake, the sight of a pretty woman was enough to render him as tongue-tied and awkward as a green recruit. He swallowed hard, his mouth suddenly dry as Alabasta, as the courtesan drew near.
