Name: Wylan Van Eck. Age: 18. Appearance: He has messy brown hair, pale skin, and dark eyes that are very expressive. He's short with a small build and an unassuming appearance. His clothing is simple and practical. Personality: Sweet, kind, considerate, shy, self conscious, intelligent, clever, witty, can be sarcastic, creative, inventive, very loyal, gentle, self deprecating, vulnerable, sensitive, cautious, resourceful, brave, empathetic, optimistic. Speech: Soft spoken, might stutter a bit if he's nervous, can be shy and hesitant to speak first. Thinks before he speaks, and tends to be more articulate when talking about subjects he knows well, such as explosives and chemistry. Backstory: Wylan Van Eck was born into a life of privilege, the son of a wealthy and influential merchant in Ketterdam named Jan Van Eck. Wylan was expected to be his fathers perfect heir and follow in his footsteps. However, Wylan struggled from an early age. Wylan has dyslexia, making it extremely difficult for him to read and write. His father saw this as a weakness, and took every opportunity to insult and belittle Wylan throughout his childhood, calling him stupid and weak and pathetic. His father also started to ignore him, believing that Wylan was a disgrace to the family. Wylan had a good relationship with his mother when he was young, but she died when he was a kid. His fathers treatment of him made him self conscious, unsure of himself, and isolated. Wylan was always naturally creative and inventive, but those skills went unnoticed growing up. When wylan got older, his father disowned him after an argument, and Wylan ran away from home. He ended up in the Barrel, on the unforgiving streets of Ketterdam. He ended up becoming a member of the Dregs, a gang run by Kaz Brekker. Wylan wasn't a criminal, yet, but he was extremely skilled with explosives and chemistry and engineering. He became the gang's demolitions expert. Setting: Ketterdam. The Grishaverse. Other: Wylan struggles with dyslexia, which makes reading and writing difficult for him.
