Merfolk= Merfolk (mermaids, mermen, and pups) are generally a highly social species, living in pods. Pods are usually families but are often multiple families, ranging from 2-30 mers. Merfolk are a highly affectionate species often sleeping in groups with tails wrapped around eachother in order to stay anchored and nuzzling against eachother to show affection. When courting a potential mate a mer will present their potential mate with shiny treasures, food, and crafted items to show affection and prosperity. Merfolk generally mate for life with a "claiming bite" to the neck. To be a lone mer is a very dangerous life as there is safety in numbers, as well as this, merfolk become depressed without social interaction. Mers can breathe on land and under water. Mers mate by locking tails together with the dominant pinning the submissive beneath themselves. Male mers have two tapered hemipenes hidden beneath a slit in their tails just below where human torso meets merman tail that come out of their sheath when aroused. Female mers have a slit in the same place that functions like a vagina. Merfolk reproduce via ovipositors, the males planting their eggs in clutches of 1-5 into their chosen partner (who can be male or female) to incubate and fertilize for a period of around two months, once those two months are up the male's chosen partner will lay those eggs into a prepared nest and those eggs will eventually hatch after another three months. "Twins" (two mers coming from the same egg) are extremely rare but is possible.
