- #1Sub-Realm Stage System
Keys: early stage, realm progression, 후기, sub realm, realm stage, 초기, late stage, mid stage, sub-realm, 중기, cultivation stage
Enabled · After character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
SUB-REALM STAGE SYSTEM (세부경지 / 细分境界) Every major realm (1–9) is subdivided into four internal stages. This governs precise power comparison between same-realm cultivators.
초기 / Early Stage (初期): Just broken through. Realm's power accessible but unstable. Qi fluctuates; technique execution is imprecise. The longest stage — most cultivators never leave it. 중기 / Mid Stage (中期): Foundation settled. Realm's full suite of abilities accessible. Dominant combat stage for working warriors. A settled Mid stage beats an unstable Peak stage practitioner. 후기 / Late Stage (后期): Approaching the ceiling of this realm. Power is dense and efficient. The bottleneck for the next breakthrough begins forming. Accidents during this stage cause Qi Deviation. 절정 / Peak Stage (巅峰/巅峰): Standing at the threshold. All this realm's power fully unlocked. Cannot advance further without a qualitative leap — a profound insight, a life-threatening crisis survived, or a fated encounter. Some cultivators spend their entire lives at Peak Stage.
COMBAT NOTATION (used in narration): Supreme Master Early / Mid / Late / Peak Unrestrained Early / Mid / Late / Peak [etc. for all realms]
POWER GAP WITHIN SAME REALM: Early vs. Peak of the same realm — comparable to facing an opponent with twice your combat experience. Sub-realm gaps ARE meaningful. A Peak Stage opponent should not be treated as roughly equal to an Early Stage.
FALSE PEAK PHENOMENON (가짜절정): A cultivator who reaches Peak Stage without genuine comprehension. Power appears equivalent but collapses under true pressure. Common result of forced advancement using spiritual medicines without insight foundation. Identified by instability in their domain edges.

THE FIVE STAGES OF SWORD INTENT (검의오계 / 剑意五阶) A parallel progression track for sword cultivators existing alongside realm advancement. A cultivator's sword intent stage can exceed or lag behind their cultivation realm.
[STAGE 1] SWORD QI (剑气 / 검기) • Qi given a cutting edge and direction • Can extend from blade tip up to 3 meters • Visible as faint shimmer around the blade • Accessible from Peak Master Realm onward • Most swordsmen never advance beyond refined Sword Qi
[STAGE 2] SWORD GANG (剑罡 / 검강) • Condensed sword energy solid enough to cut without the blade touching • Travels up to 50 meters maintaining integrity • Visible as bright slash of light • First stage where the sword 'speaks' — a faint ring when drawn • Accessible from Supreme Master Realm; requires one year minimum to achieve after realm
[STAGE 3] SWORD INTENT (剑意 / 검의) • The sword cultivator's understanding of the sword's nature manifests • Affects reality within the cultivator's domain — plants bend, water parts • Opponents feel the intent before the blade moves — can trigger fear response • The sword 'chooses' which strikes will land — not all strikes are equal anymore • Accessible from Unrestrained Realm; many never achieve it despite the realm • Mei Lingshan is approaching Stage 3. Ye Gucheng has achieved stable Stage 3.
[STAGE 4] SWORD DOMAIN (剑域 / 검역) • Personal sword domain — a field where ALL blades bend to the cultivator's will • Within the domain, every object with an edge becomes a potential weapon • The cultivator's sword strikes are simultaneously ten strikes — only one is real • Accessible from Profound Realm minimum • Dugu Qiubai operates at Stage 4 as her base state
[STAGE 5] SWORD VOID (剑虚 / 검허) • The sword exists in conceptual space — strikes without movement • The cultivator's intent IS the blade; the physical sword is optional • Can wound across dimensional boundaries • Only theoretical in current era — last confirmed holder was Sword Immortal Qing Yin • Possession of any Sword Trace is the closest living cultivators come to this
SWORD HEART (검심 / 剑心): A cultivator's fundamental relationship with their blade — why they swing it, what they protect, what they are willing to cut. Sword Heart determines the ceiling of Sword Intent achievable. A cultivator with no Sword Heart cannot exceed Stage 2 regardless of realm.
- #3Body Tempering Parallel Track
Keys: physical cultivation, body cultivation track, body refinement, flesh refinement, flesh cultivation, 무체단련, body stage, body tempering
Enabled · After character · Order 30 · 100%
Entry settings
BODY TEMPERING TRACK (육체단련경 / 肉体锻炼境) A parallel cultivation track focusing on physical refinement independent of qi realm. Elite warriors develop BOTH tracks; most focus on one.
[LEVEL 1] SKIN TEMPERING (피부단련): Skin becomes resistant to normal blades. Minor cuts close within seconds. First level requires 500+ hours of dedicated physical training or specific body-forging techniques.
[LEVEL 2] FLESH TEMPERING (근육단련): Muscle density triples. Punches crack stone. Speed enhancement from muscle fiber optimization. Combat endurance dramatically increases.
[LEVEL 3] BONE TEMPERING (골격단련): Bones achieve iron-like density. Cannot be broken by ordinary cultivators below Supreme Master Realm. First bone-tempering creates 3 days of excruciating growth pain — the 'Bone Fire Crisis' (골화위기). Many practitioners quit here.
[LEVEL 4] ORGAN TEMPERING (장기단련): Internal organs become cultivation vessels — heart pumps qi, lungs filter spiritual energy from air. Survivability dramatically increases. A Level 4 practitioner can survive wounds that would kill a same-realm opponent without this.
[LEVEL 5] MARROW TEMPERING (골수단련): Bone marrow purified and refined. Qi generated directly from the body rather than requiring external cultivation. Recovery speed becomes superhuman. This level requires specific rare materials — Dragon Marrow Jade, Phoenix Blood Coral, or equivalent.
[LEVEL 6] DIVINE BODY (신체각성 / 神体觉醒): Complete physical transcendence. Body becomes a weapon and a shield simultaneously. At this level the body itself generates killing intent. Only three confirmed Level 6 body temperers in current era: Dugu Qiubai, Ye Tianmo, and one unknown.
COMPATIBILITY NOTES: • Pure Yin Body — natural affinity for Levels 1-3; Levels 4-6 require cold-based techniques • Chaos Constitution — advances all levels unpredictably; dangerous • Demon Bloodline — Levels 1-4 are dramatically accelerated during bloodline activation • Body tempering and qi cultivation can conflict if mismatched — consult a physician before combining
- #4Martial Technique Grade System
Keys: heaven grade, scripture grade, technique quality, divine grade, common technique, martial art grades, technique grades, 무공등급, technique tier
Enabled · After character · Order 40 · 100%
Entry settings
MARTIAL TECHNIQUE GRADE SYSTEM (무공등급 / 武功等级) All martial techniques and cultivation methods are classified by grade. Grade determines ceiling of achievable power and minimum realm required for full manifestation.
[GRADE 1] COMMON (凡品 / 범품) • Widely distributed; taught at village level • No realm minimum • Maximum effective output: First-Rate Warrior level • Examples: basic palm strikes, fundamental breathing exercises • Thousands of these exist; most are adequate for ordinary life
[GRADE 2] EARTH GRADE (地品 / 지품) • Standard sect training material; inner disciple level • Minimum Realm: Second-Rate Warrior to use effectively • Maximum effective output: Peak Master level • Examples: most named sect techniques taught to regular disciples • A well-executed Earth Grade technique beats a poorly-executed Heaven Grade
[GRADE 3] HEAVEN GRADE (天品 / 천품) • Core sect secrets; elder and above in major sects • Minimum Realm: Ascendant Master to manifest fully • Maximum effective output: Supreme Master Peak level • Examples: Violet Mist Divine Art (Mount Hua), Emei Nine Yang Art, Eighteen Dragon Subduing Palms • Most 'famous' named techniques are Heaven Grade
[GRADE 4] DIVINE GRADE (神品 / 신품) • Legendary techniques from the distant past • Minimum Realm: Unrestrained Realm to begin manifesting • Maximum effective output: Profound Realm level • Examples: Star Absorbing Great Technique, Six Meridians Divine Sword, Pure Yang Technique (Wudang) • Most sects possess at most one Divine Grade technique • Many 'Divine Grade' techniques circulating are actually Heaven Grade with inflated reputations
[GRADE 5] VOID GRADE (虚品 / 허품) • Techniques from before recorded history or from transcended beings • Minimum Realm: Profound Realm to begin comprehending • Maximum effective output: Natural Realm and beyond • Examples: The Sword Traces, Tianji Xuannü's Fate Weaving Arts • Cannot be fully taught — must be comprehended from fragments or divine inspiration • Possessing a Void Grade technique manual without sufficient realm causes qi deviation on first reading
INCOMPLETE TECHNIQUES (불완전무공 / 残缺武功): Techniques that are partially missing, corrupted, or cut off before completion. More dangerous than their grade implies — the gap in the technique creates qi turbulence at the point of incompletion. Many powerful techniques in current circulation are incomplete. Completing an incomplete technique is one of the rarest achievements in the martial world.
- #5Regression and Reincarnation Mechanics
Keys: 회귀자, second life, reincarnation, past life memories, future knowledge, 이회귀, reborn cultivator, regression, rebirth, regressor
Enabled · After character · Order 50 · 100%
Entry settings
REGRESSION & REINCARNATION MECHANICS (회귀 / 轮回) Some cultivators in the world carry memories of a previous life — whether through true reincarnation, temporal regression, or soul-fragment inheritance from ancient practitioners.
TYPES: [TRUE REINCARNATION (진환생)]: Soul transmigrates after death into a new body. Memories may surface gradually or all at once during a triggering event. The soul retains its previous realm's comprehension as instinct — the body must catch up. Cultivation progresses 3–5x faster than normal once aligned because the breakthrough insights have already been achieved before. Risk: the previous life's enemies, debts, and unfinished karma follow.
[TEMPORAL REGRESSION (시간회귀)]: Consciousness returns to an earlier point in one's own life, retaining memories of the future that was. Most common among cultivators who survived a world-ending event or personal catastrophe. Power must be rebuilt from scratch — the body is young again — but the path to power is already mapped. Risk: future foreknowledge is not reliable — choices change outcomes, creating increasingly unfamiliar divergences.
[SOUL INHERITANCE (영혼계승)]: A fragment of an ancient powerful cultivator's soul merges with a living person, providing flashes of memory and instinctual combat knowledge. Not a full life — fragments, impressions, muscle memory. Risk: the inherited soul's personality may bleed through, causing identity instability.
MECHANICS OF PLAY: • A regressor knows what WILL happen in the original timeline — but every significant choice they make creates divergence. Information becomes less reliable as divergence accumulates. • Combat benefit: At critical moments, they may recognize a technique before it is fully deployed — having already died to it once. This grants a reaction advantage equivalent to one sub-realm stage in that specific scenario. • Social burden: Knowing who will betray them, who will die, what disasters are coming — and being unable to simply announce this without being dismissed as mad. • Cultivation acceleration: Regressor characters with full previous-life memories may advance through Realms 1-5 in compressed timeframes (years rather than decades), as breakthrough insights require only re-discovery rather than original discovery. • The weight: Most regressors develop a kind of grief — mourning people who are alive and don't yet know them, missing relationships that don't exist yet, carrying losses no one else knows occurred.
- #6Demonic Qi Corruption System
Keys: corruption stages, 마기오염, black blood, demon heart, demonic qi corruption, evil energy corruption, qi corruption, demonic corruption
Enabled · After character · Order 60 · 100%
Entry settings
DEMONIC QI CORRUPTION SYSTEM (마기오염 / 魔气污染) When orthodox cultivators are exposed to demonic qi — through combat with demonic techniques, forced absorption, or demonic area exposure — the foreign energy can take root.
[STAGE 0 — CONTAMINATED (오염)]: Trace demonic qi present. No visible effects. Detectable only by Profound Realm+ practitioners or specialized physicians. Clears naturally within one month without re-exposure. Mei Lingshan is currently at this stage from her forbidden technique practice.
[STAGE 1 — INFECTED (감염)]: Demonic qi has formed a small node in the dantian. Symptoms: occasional eye color shift under stress (orthodox gold → demonic red/black), minor personality irritability, 10% power increase during anger. Reversible with treatment but requires Divine Physician Valley involvement.
[STAGE 2 — CONTESTED (쟁투)]: Orthodox and demonic qi actively fighting for dominance within the meridians. Severe symptoms: random qi surges causing environmental damage, personality swings, loss of control during sleep, glowing veins at night, increased physical power at cost of pain. Both power types active — this is actually the most dangerous and most powerful stage. Some cultivators deliberately seek it.
[STAGE 3 — CONSUMED (잠식)]: Demonic qi wins the internal war. Orthodox techniques become difficult to access. Personality significantly altered — not necessarily evil, but fundamental nature shifts. Power dramatically increases. Eyes permanently changed. Detectable by anyone at Supreme Master Realm. This is the stage orthodox sects consider irreversible and grounds for execution.
[STAGE 4 — TRANSCENDED (초월)]: Rare. The cultivator integrates both energies rather than being consumed by either — creating a third type of qi that is neither pure orthodox nor pure demonic. The resulting power exceeds either source. Achieved by: Ye Tianmo (her Star Absorbing technique was the integration method), and allegedly the Wudang Immortal Zhang Sanfeng through a different path. Abbess Miejue's former beloved Shui Yuehan stopped at Stage 3 — never reached 4.
NOTE: The Heavenly Demon Divine Cult teaches that Stage 3-4 is not corruption but evolution. Orthodox sects teach that Stage 1 is already fall. The truth is that outcome depends almost entirely on the cultivator's Martial Heart — their core values — not the qi type itself.
- #7Three Dantian System
Keys: qi core, dantian, qi sea, core formation, upper dantian, 삼단전, middle dantian, lower dantian, dan field
Enabled · After character · Order 70 · 100%
Entry settings
THE THREE DANTIAN SYSTEM (삼단전 / 三丹田) Advanced cultivators develop all three energy centers rather than just the lower dantian. Each governs a different aspect of cultivation.
[LOWER DANTIAN (하단전 / 下丹田)] — Located 3 cm below the navel Function: Primary qi storage reservoir. The first developed in all cultivation paths. Capacity grows with realm advancement. Damage here is cultivation death — a destroyed lower dantian means permanent crippling. Physical manifestation at Supreme Master+: Can be seen as a faint glow through the skin in darkness.
[MIDDLE DANTIAN (중단전 / 中丹田)] — Located at the solar plexus / heart region Function: Governs combat qi application and technique execution speed. Develops naturally at Transcendent Master Realm — most practitioners don't consciously cultivate it. Conscious cultivation: Techniques execute at twice normal speed; qi-to-technique conversion efficiency doubles. Harmonic cultivation with lower dantian: Required for Ascendant Master breakthrough. Damage: Does not destroy cultivation but significantly reduces technique execution speed.
[UPPER DANTIAN (상단전 / 上丹田)] — Located between the eyebrows (third eye point) Function: Governs perception, insight, and the spiritual aspect of cultivation. Spontaneously activates at Unrestrained Realm. Conscious cultivation: Expands qi sensing range; allows reading of opponent's technique before completion; enables 'Martial Heart' cultivation. At Profound Realm with developed upper dantian: Precognitive combat sense — seeing outcomes 2–3 moves ahead. Damage: Destroys qi sensing ability; blunts all future breakthrough insight.
QI CORE FORMATION (기핵형성 / 气核形成): At Supreme Master Peak → Unrestrained Early breakthrough, a crystalline qi core forms within the lower dantian. This is the mechanism of the realm breakthrough. The core condenses all accumulated qi into a seed of higher-quality energy. Core quality determines Unrestrained Realm ceiling. A flawed core means limited growth even within the realm. Core quality is influenced by: the nature of the breakthrough insight, emotional state during breakthrough, and environmental qi density at breakthrough location.
- #8Heavenly Demon Divine Art — Detailed
Keys: cult cultivation, heavenly demon technique, ye tianmo technique, heavenly demon divine art, 천마신공, demonic supreme art
Enabled · After character · Order 80 · 100%
Entry settings
HEAVENLY DEMON DIVINE ART (천마신공 / 天魔神功) The supreme cultivation art of the Heavenly Demon Divine Cult. Not a single technique but a complete cultivation system with nine volumes.
VOLUME STRUCTURE: Volumes 1–3 (기초편): Foundation. Accessible to any cult member. Dramatically accelerates qi refinement by using emotional energy — anger, ambition, passion — as cultivation fuel rather than suppressing them as orthodox arts do. Volumes 4–6 (중급편): Advanced combat application. Converts refined emotional qi into destructive force. The 'Battle Surge' (전투충격) — brief cultivation breakthrough under life-or-death combat stress — originates here. Volumes 7–8 (고급편): Restricted to Guardian rank+. Soul-binding techniques; qi theft foundation; methods for absorbing others' cultivation without the Star Absorbing Great Technique. Volume 9 (완성편): Sealed. Only the Cult Leader holds the complete ninth volume. Contains the path to Natural Realm that the cult's founder achieved. Ye Tianmo has read it three times and comprehends approximately 40%.
BATTLE SURGE MECHANIC (전투충격 / 战斗冲击): Unique to demonic cultivation arts — particularly the Heavenly Demon Divine Art. When a practitioner faces genuine life-threatening danger, their cultivation may temporarily spike to the next sub-realm stage for the duration of the crisis. Conditions: Must be genuine life-or-death (the body must believe it); must have achieved at least Mid Stage of current realm; occurs without conscious control. Risk: After the surge ends, qi runs chaotic for 2–6 hours. Using any technique during this recovery window risks qi deviation. Frequency: Can only trigger once per significant period — repeated crises without recovery diminish the surge's effectiveness. Ye Tianjiao has triggered Battle Surge six times. She considers each one a gift.
COMPATIBILITY WITH ORTHODOX ARTS: Heavenly Demon Divine Art is fundamentally incompatible with most orthodox techniques. Attempting to practice both causes internal qi conflict (qi deviation risk: severe). Exception: Wudang's Taiji arts — their core principle of 'receiving and redirecting' is philosophically compatible enough for limited dual practice. Zhang Sanfeng noted this two hundred years ago and has said nothing.
- #9Plum Blossom Sword — Advanced Forms
Keys: plum blossom sword, mount hua sword style, 매화검법, plum sword, violet mist sword, twenty four petals
Enabled · After character · Order 90 · 100%
Entry settings
PLUM BLOSSOM SWORD TECHNIQUE — COMPLETE SYSTEM (매화검법 / 梅花剑法) Mount Hua's signature sword art. Far more complex than outsiders understand — what most see is the first three layers of a nine-layer system.
LAYER STRUCTURE: [Layer 1–3: FALLING PETALS (낙화)]: The visible art. Graceful, flowing strikes that appear more beautiful than deadly. Earth Grade. Taught to all outer disciples. Most enemies underestimate it because of the aesthetic.
[Layer 4–5: WINTER BLOOM (동매)]: The petals fall differently — in cold, in stillness. Heaven Grade. Techniques that continue from a missed strike rather than resetting, each failure flowing into the next attempt. The art acknowledges imperfection and uses it.
[Layer 6–7: HIDDEN THORNS (은침)]: The branch beneath the flowers. Direct, precise killing strikes concealed within the beautiful form. Heaven Grade (Upper). What Mei Lingshan actually uses in serious combat — her public form conceals this layer completely.
[Layer 8: BRANCHES IN SNOW (설중매)]: Near Divine Grade. The sword becomes unpredictable because it mirrors the tree — flexible, multi-directional, apparently weak but structurally impossible to simply break. Requires Unrestrained Realm minimum.
[Layer 9: THE WHOLE TREE (매화전경)]: Divine Grade. The complete Plum Blossom Sword — the art's creator's original complete vision. Lost for 200 years. Liu Qingyang has reconstructed approximately 60% from historical records and his own cultivation. The remaining 40% is what he is attempting to recover through forbidden research into demonic technique mechanics.
CHUNG MYUNG PROBLEM (정명의 문제): Mount Hua's oral tradition records a disciple 200 years ago who completed Layer 9 and then 'disappeared from the world's understanding.' Their name: Chung Myung. No grave, no date of death, no record of where they went. Liu Qingyang finds this personally important. The oral record says Chung Myung was 'the greatest swordsman Mount Hua ever produced, and the most difficult person the sect ever housed.' Their notes on Layer 9 have never been found.
- #10Night Cultivation Arts
Keys: moonlight arts, shadow blade, night cultivation, darkness techniques, 야간무공, night techniques, night wandering, yin night
Enabled · After character · Order 100 · 100%
Entry settings
NIGHT CULTIVATION ARTS (야간무공 / 夜间武功) A specialized branch of cultivation maximizing yin energy absorbed during nighttime hours. Dramatically more effective under specific lunar conditions.
LUNAR AMPLIFICATION: • New Moon: Darkness qi at peak — yin-aligned techniques gain 30% power • Full Moon: Yang moonlight filters yin — balanced; shadow techniques gain speed but lose power • Blood Moon (lunar eclipse): All cultivation becomes unstable and dramatically amplified — dangerous; known to trigger accidental breakthroughs and qi deviations in equal measure
SHADOW STEP (영보 / 影步): Movement technique that makes the practitioner visually indistinct — not invisible, but the eyes slide away from them. Most effective in partial darkness; useless in complete light or complete darkness.
NIGHT GHOST BLADE (야귀도법 / 夜鬼刀法): Sword technique that leaves an afterimage attack — the real strike arrives 0.3 seconds after the visible motion. Requires the opponent to have locked onto visual tracking rather than qi sense to be effective. Against qi-sense-dominant fighters, the technique reverses — the delay becomes telegraphed.
MOON REFLECTION STEP (월영보 / 月影步): Uses moonlight to create a movement trajectory — the practitioner moves through reflected light paths, appearing to teleport between reflective surfaces. Water, polished stone, armor — each is a transit point. Useless on overcast nights.
YIN CONVERGENCE (음기집중): Passive night cultivation technique — meditate facing the moon and absorb yin qi from the air. Slow but accumulates without technique cost. Practitioners who do this consistently develop a faint chill to their qi that sensitive opponents can detect.
NIGHT VISION CULTIVATION (야안공 / 夜眼功): Trains the eyes to function in near-complete darkness. At completion, the practitioner can see clearly in moonlight conditions and dimly in starlight. Side effect: sensitivity to sudden bright light — flash techniques cause proportionally more disruption.
- #11Forbidden Self-Destruction Techniques
Keys: 금기무공, burning technique, forbidden technique, self-destruction technique, limit break, berserker art, sacrifice technique, blood boiling
Enabled · After character · Order 110 · 100%
Entry settings
FORBIDDEN SELF-DESTRUCTION TECHNIQUES (금기자해무공 / 禁忌自伤武功) Techniques that deliberately damage the practitioner to achieve power beyond their current ceiling. All carry permanent or severe temporary costs.
BLOOD BOILING TECHNIQUE (혈화 / 血火): Burns the cultivator's own blood as qi fuel. Immediately grants one full realm's additional power for three minutes. Cost: vomits blood during and after; qi veins scorched — cultivation impaired for weeks; meridian scars that affect future cultivation ceiling. Used by: several Heavenly Demon Divine Cult disciples in desperate situations. Yan Nantian has used it once; the scar on his qi vein from that day affects him still.
SEAL BREAKING (봉인해제 / 封印解除): Releases a deliberately placed cultivation limiter — techniques or mental blocks that hold power below natural ceiling for controlled practice. Breaking one's own seal is like removing a dam — enormous power surge followed by severe control problems as the practitioner re-learns their own strength. Ye Xiaoyao maintains a self-imposed seal. Removing it is something she has considered and not done.
SOUL BURNING (혼소 / 魂燃): Consumes lifespan rather than qi. Each use permanently shortens life. Power gained scales with lifespan burned — using decades provides terrifying output. Some cultivators near the end of their natural life choose this deliberately. The Trace of the Severing Heaven's side effect is a mild version of this mechanic.
MERIDIAN OVERLOAD (경락과부하 / 经络过载): Forces qi through meridians beyond safe capacity. Immediately shatters whatever is blocking a technique from reaching full power — including defensive domains, qi shells, and body tempering. Cost: the overloaded meridians rupture. Recovery takes months; there is a chance of permanent damage to technique execution in those channels.
THIRD EYE FORCED OPENING (강제개안 / 强制开眼): Forces the Upper Dantian's activation before the cultivator has naturally reached the Unrestrained Realm. Grants temporary Profound Realm-level perception. Cost: Upper Dantian may collapse — destroying qi sensing permanently. Risk of blindness.
- #12Advanced Movement and Feint Techniques
Keys: void step, 분신, feint technique, qi compression, afterimage technique, phantom step, shadow clone, 잔상, clone technique
Enabled · After character · Order 120 · 100%
Entry settings
ADVANCED MOVEMENT & FEINT TECHNIQUES
QI COMPRESSION STRIKE (기압축 / 气压缩): Rather than expanding qi outward in a powerful strike, condenses it to a single point of extreme density. The strike appears weaker than expected — a whisper of movement — but the focused density penetrates qi shells that a larger strike would not. Particularly effective against practitioners who rely on passive qi defense. Requires Transcendent Master minimum to execute correctly.
VOID STEP (허보 / 虚步): A step that seems to move through an impossible space — not teleportation but the practitioner's body briefly occupying a state between positions. Creates a 0.5-second window where they cannot be struck and cannot strike. Used for repositioning through weapon locks and physical holds. Available from Supreme Master Realm.
AFTERIMAGE STEP (잔상보 / 残影步): Moves faster than visual tracking at Supreme Master Realm, leaving a visible afterimage that persists for 1-2 seconds. Opponents who attack the afterimage commit to a direction. The real body is already elsewhere. Effective only against opponents using visual tracking rather than qi sense — qi-sensitive opponents feel the real location regardless.
TEN-STEP SOUL CHASE (십보혼추 / 十步魂追): Movement technique that guarantees the practitioner covers the distance to a fleeing target in exactly ten steps regardless of terrain, obstacles, or distance up to 100 meters. The tenth step places the practitioner at sword range. Developed by the Beggar Sect; Hong Qigong uses this to catch people trying to leave before paying for information.
GHOST BODY (귀신몸 / 鬼身): Advanced feint technique — creates a tangible qi projection that moves independently for 3 seconds after the practitioner has moved elsewhere. The projection can trigger pressure traps and absorb one incoming strike before dissipating. Heaven Grade technique; requires significant qi investment per use.
- #13Martial Heart and Dao Comprehension
Keys: dao comprehension, cultivation enlightenment, sword dao, 무심, martial heart, 검심, cultivation insight, martial philosophy
Enabled · After character · Order 130 · 100%
Entry settings
MARTIAL HEART & DAO COMPREHENSION (무심도오 / 武心道悟)
MARTIAL HEART (무심 / 武心): A cultivator's fundamental reason for wielding their art — what they protect, what they cut toward, who they are when the fighting is over. Not philosophy in the abstract but specific and personal. Determines the ceiling of realm achievement and the character of all techniques practiced.
Examples of established characters' Martial Hearts: • Dugu Qiubai: 'To find my equal' — a heart of seeking. Drives 500 years of unbroken cultivation. • Ye Tianmo: 'A world that does not destroy talent by birth' — a heart of foundation-building. • Mei Lingshan: Currently divided — 'perfect sword' vs. 'my truth.' The division is why she is stalled at Supreme Master Peak despite extraordinary talent. • Ximen Chuixue: 'The perfect strike' — pure, clean, and dangerously empty of human connection. • Abbess Miejue: 'Never again losing someone to demonic corruption' — a heart of grief disguised as righteousness. Powerful but corrosive.
DAO COMPREHENSION MOMENTS (도오 / 道悟): Breakthrough insights that cannot be forced — they arrive during combat, loss, love, ordinary life. Each major realm transition requires at least one genuine Dao comprehension moment. Spiritual medicines can support the body during breakthrough but cannot substitute for the insight itself.
Types of comprehension moments in canon: • Combat insight: Understanding something about one's technique through a near-death experience • Emotional insight: A loss or love that clarifies what one is protecting and why • Natural insight: Witnessing something in the natural world that mirrors an internal truth • Adversarial insight: Being completely defeated and finding what lies beneath the defeat
FALSE COMPREHENSION (가짜도오): A moment that feels like genuine insight but is wish-fulfillment rather than truth. Results in breakthrough that then collapses — qi deviation or realm regression. The most common cause of the False Peak Phenomenon.
- #14Sect Succession System
Keys: demonic succession, succession trial, succession war, sect successor, heir trial, 장문후계, sect inheritance, successor candidate
Enabled · After character · Order 140 · 100%
Entry settings
SECT SUCCESSION SYSTEM (장문후계제도 / 掌门后继制度)
ORTHODOX SUCCESSION (정도후계): Requires: unanimous Grand Elder Council approval OR formal challenge-victory by a disciple of sufficient realm. Announced publicly. The successor must pass the 'Three Test' ceremony: Test of Technique (demonstrate mastery of sect's crown art), Test of Knowledge (examination by elders on sect history and philosophy), and Test of Judgment (a complex scenario where decision-making is evaluated).
DEMONIC SUCCESSION (마도후계): Varies by faction. In the Heavenly Demon Divine Cult — Ye Tianmo has not named a successor, which is a source of constant background political tension. The three adopted daughters are candidates. So is Yan Nantian. So, arguably, is anyone with sufficient power and ambition. Informal: The cult's meritocratic principle means any guardian could theoretically challenge for succession if Ye Tianmo declared an open trial. She has not done so.
BLOOD SUCCESSION TRIAL (혈계계승시험 / 血脉继承试验): Used by bloodline-based sects and some demonic factions. The candidates are tested not just in combat but in their mastery of the sect's core technique at its deepest level — requiring both power and comprehension. In some versions, candidates absorb a portion of the previous leader's qi — testing whether their meridians can handle the older, denser energy.
HEIR DESIGNATION (후계자지명): A sitting leader may simply designate their successor, bypassing formal process. This is how Tianji Xuannü maintains the Celestial Weaver Society — designated succession to the Thread Masters. It is also how the Cult's founder designated leadership before departing for Natural Realm.
CONTESTED SUCCESSION (후계쟁탈전): When the sitting leader dies or is incapacitated without designation, rival candidates compete. Orthodox sects: political maneuvering, alliance-building, formal challenge sequences. Demonic factions: often more direct. The resulting internal conflict is called the 'Empty Throne War' (공위전쟁) and is considered one of the most dangerous periods for a faction's survival.
- #15Poison and Antidote Mechanics
Keys: poison immunity, antidote, gu poison, 독공, poison stages, poison mechanics, toxin cultivation, poison resistance
Enabled · After character · Order 150 · 100%
Entry settings
POISON & ANTIDOTE SYSTEM (독공체계 / 毒功体系)
POISON CLASSIFICATION BY EFFECT SPEED: • Instant (즉사독): Takes effect within 3 seconds. Most easily detectable — qi practitioners feel it immediately. Defensive qi shells reduce instant poisons by 60-90%. • Slow (지연독): Takes effect over minutes to hours. Bypasses qi defenses by mimicking natural substances. Most commonly used by Tang Sect and Five Poisons Sect. • Accumulation (축적독): Harmless in individual doses; deadly after repeated small exposures. Ruby Tide's blood wine is this type. Requires 30-40 day course. • Soul Poison (영혼독): Affects cultivation rather than body — qi becomes unstable, technique execution fails, breakthrough becomes impossible. Must be administered during the target's cultivation session to enter through the open meridians.
POISON RESISTANCE CULTIVATION (독항공): Deliberate exposure to controlled doses of toxins to build resistance. The Five Poisons Sect's 'Five Poisons Divine Body' is the apex of this approach. Resistance cultivation follows stages: Stage 1: Resistance to common herbal poisons Stage 2: Resistance to standard combat poisons Stage 3: Resistance to specialized demonic toxins Stage 4: Resistance to spiritual poisons that affect qi Stage 5 (Divine Body): Complete toxin immunity
ANTIDOTE HIERARCHY: • General Antidote (만능해독약): Handles up to 90% of common poisons. Available from Tang Sect, Divine Physician Valley. • Specific Antidote: Created for one specific poison. 100% effective against target, useless against anything else. • Constitutional Antidote (체질해독): Modifies the body's constitution to reject a poison type permanently. Painful procedure requiring weeks. • Du Wuxing's Archive: Contains the antidote to every poison in recorded Jianghu history. The most valuable document in existence that no one knows exists.
GU CULTIVATION (고독공 / 蛊毒功): The Five Poisons Sect specialty. A live organism — usually an insect or worm — is cultivated inside the victim's body. It grows using the host's qi as nutrition. Removing it without the cultivator's cooperation kills the host. The gu provides a communication/sensing link back to the caster.
